    Re: Future of Commentary

I may be in the minority but they need to get rid of Matt Vasgersian. Nothing wrong him but change is GOOD. He’s been there for over a decade, it’s incredibly stale listening to him at this point.

      Re: Future of Commentary

The only reason I'd want to get rid of Matt is if it meant they changed the style/route they went with commentary. I won't re-explain myself again outside of saying that the scripts and algorithms used are not up to snuff. If they replaced him to do the same thing they are doing now, I would not be for it, and that would be a waste of many resources only to not get many changes again in forever.

If they decided to re-record Matt lines for any reason, I've said this before: instead of a script, play an audio bit for him that he actually did in a game (like an SNB broadcast), and tell him: "Repeat that, verbatim." Or whatever it would take. One of the problem with Vasgersian in this game is that he does not sound the way he does in real life.

Finally, the sound quality/mix in-game is not the same as you hear in real life. In real life, you get a lot more... treble? Not sure exactly what it is, but this game really restrains the quality.

I would go with the same booth of MLB 2K13 had over the years Gary Thorne, Steve Phillips and John Kruk. It felt natural and alive, compared to the Show who have zero emotion and feel dead. I felt Harold Reynolds and Steve Psycho were great, the generic Dan Plesac and robotic deRosa are horrific.

But like Jayhawker said, those same guys did other games and it wasn't as good. 2K just nails down commentary better than any other game ever has. 2K13 was some of the best game commentary I've heard.

No matter who they get, it all becomes repetitive after a short period of time. There is only so much commentary they can put in.

It would be nice if they could patch in commentary instead of it being tied and locked to live rosters or quick play.. for instance if you do the live play powered by mlb network they talk about all things going on this season and previous games iirl...

Madden was the same way commentary that was fresh or relevant was locked into single play non customized modes

Thats why I think the future of commentary lies in the cloud. Just basic bare bones on the disc but you have to be online for the meaty stuff.

                    Re: Future of Commentary

I don't think there is any good solution for commentary. Anything is better than Dan and DeRo colour commentating though!

There are few feelings in the world that are more frustrating than taking a strike on the very edge of the zone, only to have Pleasac open his big dumb mouth and ask "What was he waiting for? I mean, that pitch was RIGHT THERE!"

Turning off commentary was such a blessing. I agree about needing a two man booth though. Matty V is fine. His delivery is a bit flat, but that does prevent false emotions. Dan and DeRo need to go.

I'd love to hear Thom Brennaman call these games. Think he could actually do a decent job.

Which is essentially how EA is doing it with Madden now. You get updates for commentary every single week. But some of the stuff is generic enough, as in just about a player, that it can used in all the modes. But since they are leveraging the weekly updates for Play Now, it gets them in the studio to add other stuff.

They should just reuse their commentary from The Show 2009. The commentary in that version was perfect
