Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Mode Review: A Wishlist for 2020

My wishlist can be summed up with 1 line. Give me,an offline franchise player, a reason to buy this game again after 2 years now going without. Unfortunately there are probably a ton of things from the 2014 version of this topic that haven't been implemented. Go look at ootp for franchise ideas, or even nba2k.

A few highlights that could get me on board for 2020 though.

Revamped scouting and draft, make scouting more engaging and rewarding.

Improve trade screen, both from a UI perspective as well as increase the number of trade slots.

Massive overhaul of available stat tracking. It's insane that a video game based on a sport that has so many stats that fans keep track of is so shallow in that department, especially when it comes to career stats.

There are a lot more that I want, but these would at least get me back into a game I used to love

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Mode Review: A Wishlist for 2020

I always thought it would be cool to have a "key moments" feature option while simming games. (That i could Watch - not play..). I sim the entire league except my game. I check box scores but there is a lot of stuff i wonder about.

That big rally in that bottom of the 9th walk off, how did that all go down? Who was the hero?

That Complete Game one-hitter.. how far did that pitcher take the no-hitter? 1 inning, or 8.2 innings? Who broke it up and how? Maybe let me watch from the top of the 6th on if something like this is happening..

A hitter has 3 HR's...i would love to see his last AB to see if he can join the exclusive 4 HR club.

I see it like the 'Live Look-ins" on MLB Network. If it could alert me with an option to look in while simming games, or skip. But have the option to turn the entire feature off, in case you don't want simming to be interrupted.

Another option would be a highlights feature for already-simmed games. It would just have to build the highlight after the fact, according to what was simmed, but still. But that might not work that well though...

But heck i would take just game notes after the simulation. This player was the POG. This player took a no hitter into the 7th. Like a more in-depth Inside the Show feature..but more detailed Etc.

Remember the newspaper write ups that we used to have after games? That would be cool too if they could get it to re-write the game stories for simmed games in a detailed way...

      Just dreaming..

I would love simply being able to designate who my ace pitcher is and then let him pitch anywhere in the rotation. It's maddening when I have an important game and I would like to pitch my ace, but it's not his turn according to the 5-man rotation and proceeds to get pissy because he's not in the precious #1 pitching slot. I would like to be able to click on his player card and tell that dummy he's my ace rather then being stuck with him at a certain rotation slot.

Similarly, I would like to place a star hitter in the #2 spot in the order and not have him get mad that he's not hitting 1, 3, or 4. That's stupid.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Mode Review: A Wishlist for 2020

Spring Training hasn't improved one iota, without the ability to use more of 90 players available. It's a feature that has slipped backwards this year, with the CPU's failure, to even use a full batting squad, in later innings of a game and has instead left any changes to be made, only by switching to the opposing team and making the alterations, manually. Poor form SDS . Commentary in ST that bodes well initially, giving great opening descriptions, then slips into regular season mode quips and completely loses its way.

It always appears to be a game, that for every one major step forward, yearly, it takes two steps backward.

It's no use praying and wishing, each year, anymore. SDS implements what they want, when they want and generally, only when it is financially/ commercially beneficial for them to do so. Smart move initially maybe...Down the road and for the consumer, not so much.

Losing sight of the huge following for Franchise Mode and the changes that are much needed to keep people interested in this game, is a challenge, they may not up to,..... in the coming years.

Personally, I think this is a waste of time. They've stopped paying any real attention to franchise.

My favorite suggestion is the one that mentioned putting our ace pitcher anywhere in the rotation and star players in the #2 slot without them acting like babies.

Re: MLB The Show 19 Franchise Mode Review: A Wishlist for 2020

Being almost a strictly franchise gamer, here is a few things I'd love to see

-HISTORICAL CRITICAL MOMENTS. My main one I'd love to see that I think would change franchise mode experience for lots of players. Now that critical moments are in the game, I would LOVE to see an ability to play super rare historical critical moments for every team in the franchise. When a player is nearing 500, 600, 700 homeruns, 3000 hits, a strikeout record, hitting-streak record, etc. This makes the entire franchise feel more genuine, and gives you a reason to go checkout another team for a game or two rather than just roll with yours the entire time. In-game records would be great too, approaching 20 K's in a game and you can watch or play and drive the record home.

-One of my other main things is the feel of the end of games. They should mix it up and have more than just one ending presentation. The player of the game card thing is outplayed and old, and you'd never really see that in real game. Just a nice highlight combo package would be great, similar to what 2K does, and have it fade to black, and then bring up the screen where you can go box scores, etc. In the playoffs, this should be totally different. For example after winning a world series you see the dramatic cut scene, and then it goes right to a player of the game card animation with the announcer in a very monotone voice. Just feel like with baseball you have so many games, so you see so many endings.

-Ability to see how each player has done against the starting pitcher you are facing in the lineup editor screen. This puts you more into the managerial position to maybe put in a guy on the bench who has crushed this pitcher in the past, and give someone who has struggled a day off. They always mention these stats in the game when the batter is up, so the data already exists.

-ATMOSPHERE. This is one of the things I think is lacking in the game. Way more dugout interaction, celebrations not just for homeruns. Just making the game feel true to the sport, and making the players more life like with their emotions. Obviously super ramped up come Sept/Oct/Nov.

-4 to 6 pitcher rotations. Should be an easy thing to code. You literally just select what style you want to run in pitching rotation menu, and it translates to the played game pitcher selection screen and sim.

-Curtain calls, when a starter goes deep into the game, does a great job, and is removed...Having the crowd give a standing applause as he walks to the dugout. Maybe tips his cap. Those are the moments that make you feel the game is real.

-I always loved what NCAA Football did with recruiting, making it a mini-game in itself. Doing something fun with Free Agency would be nice to see. Ability to persuade a free agent, pitch your city, franchise, etc. More than just offering a deal and seeing a meter at the top of the screen. They have all of the morale features, why not use them a little more and have some fun with it?

-I always loved in High Heat Baseball how a random rainout would come into play forcing a double header. This would be one of those fun little things franchise players get excited about.

-I know a lot of guys have been begging for an update to online franchise. If it is updated, I feel like this is a mode I would play a lot with my friends.

-Rotating interleague schedules. This is something a lot of the longer term franchise players have been asking for.

-The loading screen before a game. Adding more to this, maybe spotlight matchup or a pick to click type of deal. (A hitter who has crushed a pitcher before).

-Better AI Roster Management. Call ups/downs, lineups, etc.

-If you won a world series last year, on your home opener, have a big cut scene celebration. This is done in NHL.

-Making the post season feel much larger. The towels are a great start. Now find other ways to reward us for playing a full season. Maybe new scorebug?

-Love in NBA 2K when you are in a certain part of the year (Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving), having the game feel as if it was played during that time. I love the pink gear on mothers day, the blue on fathers day, etc. Maybe go further with some baseball holidays (July 4th, etc).

-Ability to see holidays on the calendar. (Mothers Day, Fathers Day, July 4th, Memorial Day). The game already does some fun uniforms and such during these days, so it'd be fun to even have a tiny asterisk letting us know, so we don't sim over it.

-During the first month of the year, when you face an opponent in the first game of the series, showing their key losses/additions from last year would be cool. Having announcers talk about it for a sec. That could be a cool moment.

-Catcher snap throws back to the bag // Catcher Relevance overall. I feel like its becoming a little more common for catchers with rocket arms such as Yadier Molina(more so back in the day), Wilson Contreras types to fire back at the bag. As of now I've never seen it in the game, at least not done when you can even get someone close. The catcher is an extremely important defensive position, would love to make that more important when playing the game.

More stats. More stats. More stats.

Contextual stats that work with carryover saves. I’m in year 2023, in a carryover save from 2015 and I have yet to see an OSD that shows “vs pitcher” stats. I’d also love to see player stats vs a team.

Also for them to bring back batting averages vs lefties and righties when you press up on the d-pad in games.

For the love of all things holy, when selecting a pinch hitter, we need to see lefty/righty splits and vs current pitcher easily on the main screen.

There are a ton more situational stats that then can to implement to improve the overall user experience.

Agree Greencollarbaseball. Also would like SDS to increase uniform options without having to earn or buy stubs. This year you have to buy/earn stubs for sound enhancements, homerun calls etc. in franchise.

Franchise, if it continues to be a game option, is headed to DD type earn/buy stubs. You will pay or earn stubs for uniform enhancements or Russell yelling a phrase in the crowd. (already happening

Rosters will be controlled by SDS with the MLBPA granted rights. Players want the right to their face, body, swing type and stats. This is part of of the negotiating with MLB and the upcoming CBA. MLB is in the process of changing from statcast to Hawk-eye stat tracking in a battle with MLBPA to have the proprietary rights to player stats etc.

the funny thing about the stats is that they exist in the game, the announcers say them all the time, they just simply haven't created a graphic or area to view these.

And super agreed on the bench players. Very important to make an educated decision, which isn't possible right now.

                            1. Add storylines in "menu mode" and have those be presented in-game. I'd like to see a massive expansion of Heidi's role in the game where she can discuss these things (pre-game/post-game commentary would be great). Storytelling is the most important aspect of franchise mode - we need to feel like we're in a universe greater than the team we are using. Now, in fairness, SDS already does this better than any other sports game on the market; but I'd like to see more here. What Madden's trying to do with their scenario engine (along with SDS' amazing March to October presentation/story-telling elements) would elevate this a whole other level.
                            2. Expand training/rating system to capture how familiar player's are at fielding each position and allow us (and the CPU of course) to develop players in both new primary and secondary positions (this would need to involve a player playing X number of innings at a position...even if he is OOP to start - adding some flavor to spring training).
                            3. I'd like to see player personalities (along the lines of those in RTTS) be added. Not necessarily to the point where we have to micro-manage every player, but SDS has done some really nice work here....expansion of some aspects of this into franchise would be terrific.
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

Same thing I have been asking for for years......way more realism...right now it still feels like I am a single team and not a part of a wider league. More league news, Storylines , media articles, build a rivalry with a few teams...Just feels stale now. The gameplay is great though.
