Re: I feel like the CPU is way to willing to issue walks this year
Through about 30 games in my chise, I could walk 20 times in my next game and I’d still have the fewest walks in the league. Teams in the top 5 all have 100+ more walks than I do. And I feel like I walk plenty.

Re: I feel like the CPU is way to willing to issue walks this year
I used a combination of bcruz sliders suggestion, and warmthewinds suggestion with sliders and it seems to have fixed the issue. I think the issue is that once you get to all star or above the CPU tries to "nibble" the zone too much and unfortunately their control is just not capable of allowing them to hit their spots consistently enough for this to be a solid approach. This causes the CPU to constantly be down in the count 3-0 3-1 and so forth. I increased CPU control by two and CPU strike frequency by 1 and they really are able to hit those corner pitches they keep insisting on going for. Downside is it's a bit challenging since they really don't throw me anything that hittable unless they make a mistake. I will adjust my approach to this and keep at it until I get the hang of it. Don't think I will be waking all that much on the future lolComment

I've tried this last night to lessen walks and it works pretty well also increases player strike outs, play The Show drunk.

Re: I feel like the CPU is way to willing to issue walks this year
Dont kill me for this. It may be a self-fulfilling prophecy type situation going, but remember this... The developers said, in a video, that contact/vision/discipline hitters would be rewarded more for working counts and taking pitches. From my experience, now dont overreact, anytime the producers of a game want to show off a new mechanic they tend to go a tad overboard to create these types of situations more and it affects other areas of the game. Im pretty much saying that the early count strikes are below average in order to induce longer counts to "show off" the new mechanic. Thats just my honest opinion. Or maybe everyone is just better at hitting and staying patient. IDKComment

Re: I feel like the CPU is way to willing to issue walks this year
If the CPU is more willing to walk you instead of grooving something on 2-0 or 3-1, especially with a power guy at the plate, I'd welcome it.
I've always felt the game was too eager to just get strikes. Sometimes the batter just wins and a walk is better than a double off the wall.
I would welcome a pitching AI that tries to nibble and whether they do so or not depends on their ratings.
Sounds a lot like the real game. Then it's up to us at the plate to try not to chase - just like real hitters.
If you chase less than 30% of pitches out of the zone, you're doing better than MLB, on average, and should get more walks on average."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Yeah - this is why the strike frequency adjustment works for me - I have a tendency to take more pitches than real-life hitters do (including strikes) and I definitely don't hit that 30% chase rate. Having the CPU attempt to get ahead in the count more often disrupts my game enough that I will be more likely to chase a bad pitch. Plus, being in more "hitter behind" counts naturally leads to me having lower batting averages as well as strikeouts.
It's an unconventional fix that only works because of the way I play the game, but it definitely works for me.Comment

Re: I feel like the CPU is way to willing to issue walks this year
Thought I would add my 2 cents here...
I just started my Franchise tonight. First game was Dylan Bundy (CPU) against Severino (Me).
I won 7-5 but I drew 8 walks, 5 of them against Bundy. He even managed to walk 3 straight hitters. Judge had 2 BB's (one Intentional) and Bird had 2 BB's. (I am using Mike Lowe's 19 Sliders, Legend pitching)
Just felt like Bundy refused to give in and throw me strikes, especially with the meat of the order. His BB/9 is 59 so I am sure that contributed to the BB's. He pounded me low and inside most of the game.
It's only one game but 8 BB's is a personal best for me. However, I did strike out 12 times so its a work in progress.Comment

As I said in another thread, this condescending, I'm better than you ****, needs to stop.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: I feel like the CPU is way to willing to issue walks this year
People are having a discussion about a part of the game and sharing experiences and helpful tips. If that doesn't apply to you, or you're not mature enough to handle civil discussions, then maybe you should not post in the thread.
As I said in another thread, this condescending, I'm better than you ****, needs to stop.
There is nothing wrong with struggling with the game and seeking advice. So sometimes people might get frustrated and blame the game.. so what? They're just blowing off some steam. They're just frustrated.
But this "you suck at the game so stop posting, and practice until you are as good as me" theme is getting old fast. You might consider laying off the arrogance and actually try helpng people learn the game one time.Last edited by NolanRyansSnowmonkey; 04-21-2019, 11:19 AM.Comment
