Diving Catches
What's going with diving catches this year? Seems like every attempt the ball just hits the glove and falls to the ground, I would say 9 out of 10 the dive fails, last year dives were more successful, I am not saying every attempt needs to be a pass but the success rate needs to be higher then it is currently, anyone else seeing this as well?Tags: None -
Re: Diving Catches
Yep you're totally right, ball always going off glove even when I thought my timing and positioning was correct on the dive.

Re: Diving Catches
This seems to be an ongoing problem. It's really hard. Most of the time the ball just goes right by and all the way to the wall for me.
I did make a sweet diving catch with Tyler Naquin like a week ago. It was honestly one of the first I've have ever done in a long time.
I'd say there is a problem with diving stops in the infield too, but I have made a few of those this year.
It's like the animation window for making a diving catch in the outfield is tiny.Comment

Re: Diving Catches
Funny you mentioned Tyler Naquin, I played them yesterday with the braves and he made a great diving catch, the only problem was the diving catch was into the RF fan railing which made it kinda weird because IRL, if he would have attempted that catch and crashed into the wall like that, he would have been really hurt but hey I'll chalk it up to it being a video game.Comment

Re: Diving Catches
Maybe its intended to be that way, that the chances of making a diving catch is suppose to be difficult, which I guess I'm fine with....not everyone can be Roberto Alomar. At least most of the time I can knock the ball down and sometimes have enough time to recover and throw to first for the out.

Re: Diving Catches
They don’t dive too much from the games I play but when they do attempt it alway hits the glove and bounce off. I’m starting to think it’s meant that way, it has to be times just perfect I’m assuming.Comment

Re: Diving Catches
Yes this is 100% a problem. Even infielders diving can’t catch a grounder. Lindor is an elite fielder, he has yet to make a diving stop in my franchise. I’ve actually noticed this awhile ago and have been trying to obtain information to present to SDS for a bug report. My outfielders have missed 19 of their last 21 diving attempts (yes I’m keeping track)
It’s absolutely an issue

Re: Diving Catches
I'm just glad they changed it this year so it's nearly as difficult for the CPU as it is for a human. In years past, if the CPU could possibly make a diving catch, they would, period. Didn't seem to matter at all what the fielders fielding rating was.
I still feel like the CPU is to good at it this year, but at least it's no longer a guarantee for them, and fielding rating does seem to impact them a little.
