    Manual stealing.

I know it has been discussed on here already, but the stealing (or inability to do so) is clearly an issue. I have tried the, “manual,” steal. Holding L2 and releasing when the pitcher goes to the plate but it just doesn’t work. The runner often times still does not break when I release L2.

I don’t expect to lead the league in steals, but I’m at the end of April in my franchise and have one steal. It’s a little ridiculous. People will say to, “steal in the right count,” but it doe not help. I have also noticed that my players steal ability is insanely low. I’m talking many in single digits. I wonder if editing these ratings might be the way to go.

I've mentioned this in the other stolen base threads, but the method I use is:

Hold L1 (not L2) through the pitcher's delivery. (This is of course after the initial command to steal (tapping L2)). This is how i have stolen bases for a long time and my success percentage hss been in the 70's+. Others have also experienced good results after switching to this method. Try it out over a decent sample size. I have never needed a different method since going to this. I also do not tap L1 to take an extended lead. No need to.

Edit: i just re-read your post about ratings. Not sure about your team's steal ratings.. i steal on my team with speed ratings in the 60's and steal ratings even lower. Obviously if your guys all have terrible speed and/ or steal ratings, no method will probably fix that. But i would be surprised if you have absolutely nobody with at least decent attributes...?

      Re: Manual stealing.

      Try this:

Before the pitcher comes set press and let go of L2 to que up the steal (you'll need to use the L-stick to select the runner if multiple runners on base or else all will steal)

When the pitcher comes set, when you think he's coming home, or as he starts his motion, press L1 to get a "jump/break" on the pitch.

      Report back.

Thanks for the hints. I’ll give these a shot.

I am able to steal about 60%., Even with guys that have low stealing. Teoscar Hernandez of the Jays has 73 speed and low stealing, but swipes bags using the listed methods

Man, I just tried this and stole two bases that were not even really close. Thanks for the tips here.

The holding L1 after you press L2 to steal is a godsend.

I'm even considering lowering stealing ability back to default (5). I had it up one click, per Amour's sliders. But I've noticed I rarely throw out the CPU. If I can just have a half-way realistic steal percentage for my team (using the L1 button) and then actually throw out the CPU, I'll be good to go.

Now, if I can just hit some home runs. Sheesh.

Do you guys lead off then too? If so, do you push R1 to go back to back to bag?

I tend to take a lead and like 50% of the time, I get picked off lol.

I don't take the extra step lead as it isn't needed. I try to time when the pitcher is coming home and press L1 to take that extra step/get a jump.

And yes I always press R1 to return to the base during pickoff attempt. Not sure if needed or not, but makes me feel better.

Stole against Molina last game. I beat the throw by 3-4 steps, easily.

I also upped steal success slider (I think that’s what it’s called) to 6

I had it at 6 but after figuring out the L1 steal I don't feel its necessary. I've stolen four consecutive bases at default (5) so I don't see the need to have it at 6. Especially considering there's not a human and a CPU steal success slider. I have trouble throwing out the CPU at times so I don't want to give them any more advantage.
