Defensive attributes are more relevant in mlbts 19

As a result the task of assembling a team in franchise is a bit more complicated. An outfield with poor reaction will allow balls to get behind him. Infielders with poor fielding will bobble ground balls.

I like it because it adds realism - but it complicates things.

This is one of the main reason I bought the game this year. It makes it so much fun trying to figure out weather a good bat is worth the poor defense.

Agreed 100%. I'm running a Marlins franchise, but just for fun, decided to start a Jays one to pick away at the same time, and also to compare. Same settings, same sliders. These are obviously very small sample sizes, but it's interesting to see the differences:

-Marlins: Outfield of Granderson, Brinson, Sierra, with Russell Herrera coming in to take over for Grandy in the late innings most games.

Current record: 14-8. Winning a lot of low scoring games because my outfield makes it to a lot of balls. The Grandyman is also raking for me which is helping to offset Brinson/Sierra, but they're holding it all together out there. Infield D has also been good. Currently sitting in 8th in the majors in fielding percentage.

      -Jays: Teoscar, Brito, Grichuk.

Current record: 4-9. Losing a lot of high scoring games (or being blown out), because Hernandez shouldn't be playing anywhere other than DH. If the ball is hit to left, odds are pretty good that it'll be for extra bases. Grichuk is pretty good out there, but he hasn't hit enough to pay for his meal. I called up Ben Revere the other day and an instantaneous difference out there. Currently sitting 24th in the majors in fielding percentage.

I've noticed a fast outfielder with poor reaction will let balls get over his thread.

I absolutely love the defense in this year's game.

In this case it actually is, well not necessarily believing but actually experiencing the impact.

The difference in having Patrick Wisdom at 3rd base (99 reaction - 97 fielding - 89 arm strength - 79 accuracy) is vast compared to having Matt Carpenter (68 reaction - 66 fielding - 69 arm strength - 68 accuracy)

Also I've noticed with infielders who have higher reaction and fielding ratings that dives and sliding stops occur more frequently (and automatically) than lower rated fielders and even when compared to last year.

Having a good defense was "required" in '18. Having a good defense in '19 is not only required, but also advantageous.
