    Warming up pitchers

How do you guys go about warming up the bullpen?

I tend to stretch and toss the inning prior, warm up the bottom of that half inning and keep ready and waiting once they’re warm.

    Does it at all matter?

I read something about scheduling them to pitch effects their stamina? Not sure how true this is but I stay away from it lol.

I think I've only ever used the warm up option.

Might explain why my bullpen routinely gets blasted.

      Re: Warming up pitchers

If it's not an emergency, I just select "warm up" and set them to come in during the next inning.

If it's an emergency, then I just warm them up, do a mound visit immediately, try and get through one more batter, and then throw the warm up pitches on the field.

I honestly don't think the "stretch/toss" and "ready and waiting" have any impact on the actual performance of the pitcher. If the game wants him to get shelled that day, there's nothing you can do.

        Re: Warming up pitchers

I always stretch and toss with pitchers, then warm them up before bringing them in. I then make sure I do the 8 warm up pitches.

        I view it as:

        Stretch and Toss (get loose)
        Warm Up (get hot)

Doing this has prevented me, thus far at least, from seeing some of the issues that others have reported when bringing in relief pitchers (stamina/confidence issues)
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

          Re: Warming up pitchers

It's the schedule to pitch that triggers the energy glitch, where the pitcher comes in with energy missing.

I've never had it happen in any other situation, and I once forgot about a pitcher and left him warming up for two innings. It's really frustrating because it does not matter how perfectly you warm them up.

The only thing I've noticed is it does seem more likely to trigger if you haven't used the pitcher in a while.

            Re: Warming up pitchers

            It depends on the situation.

If I have a slim lead and I am going to use my Setup-men and Closer I start the warmup process in the 6th inning.

            1. 7th inning guy starts stretching top of the 6th, warming up in the bottom of the 6th, ready and waiting by 1st or 2nd batter of the bottom of the 6th, and in to start the 7th.
            2. Same goes for 8th inning guy, but repeating steps above starting in the 7th
            3. Same goes for Closer, but repeating steps above starting in the 8th

There maybe some double barrel action going on in steps #1 and #2, if I need to play matchups. In #3 I only get someone going if the Closer is imploding, which leads to other warm up process...

If at ANY point during the game I feel like the pitcher is becoming ineffective, I will start to warm up 1 or 2 pitchers and do a mound visit. This will ensure that at the very least if I have to pull the pitcher after the next batter that the RP coming in will be warm.

I only throw the 8 warm up pitches if I have not pitched with a pitcher before and need to get his delivery down. However, throwing strikes in the warm up pitches builds confidences in those pitches ahead of the at bat, so I should be using this option more.

This has been more or less my approach now. Finding out about the “schedule to pitch” glitch has been a game changer for me. I always wondered why my pen had lower stamina and confidence even when the guy is 7-0 with a 1.55 era lol.

Is there any way to see pitchers confidence before putting them in?

I play with clean screen so I don’t see that info when pitching. I tend to go with who I know is pitching well out of the pen along with other variables because I can never find the pitchers confident meter.

Unfortunately there isn't a way to view confidence until they are in the game.

Once you go clean screen the game goes to another level.

And yes that schedule to pitch bug is annoying. Something else that needs a fix.

I agree armor. I took that from your slider page and it’s definitely added another level of realism both visually and strategically.

The confidence thing isn’t as much of a concern, after all, I should know who’s been pitching well of late but the stamina glitch is frustrating.

                      Re: Warming up pitchers

                      What I do is:

                      1. Stretch and toss the pitcher I want to eventually bring in.
                      2. When I want him to go in, I start to warm the reliever up.
                      3. Before making another pitch, I call a mound visit.
                      4. From there I sub in my reliever who will be 3/4 warmed up and the 8 warm up pitches will put him there.

This is not the most realistic way, I realize that and I do strive for realism, but it eliminates the loss of energy/stamina for warming up a reliever in the bullpen.
