Re: How trade happy do you get & when?

I do not make roster moves unless I lose players in free agency, e.g. they take a low ball offer when I gave them more money and/or years. I try my best to keep my team intact. I take care of my players, managers, coaches, etc. I always give them years and money to keep them. Free agency gives me nightmares. The in-season stuff not so much.

I would say the CPU trades for a star with a bunch of trash, but if I make a trade that is similar there's an excuse.

I am finally going to do my franchise with the Dodgers next weekend (yes!!!), so I will see what happens. The first year is never a problem. It's always the 2nd season for me. I get really antsy during the off-season because when you think nothing crazy will happen, it usually does, so you have to scramble to replace players or not offer players money, so you have to do your due diligence.

The last franchise season I did was brutal. It took several hours to complete my off-season because of what you said. I hate when I play a lot of games before my franchise (I have 12000+ stubs) and by the end of the season, you have a lot of money to spend and you're ready to spend it all, but the CPU one ups you. I lose some of my players and all of my plans were changed and I have to overpay.

Before the season starts I usually see which free agents are still out there and if they aren't major guys like Kimbrel or Dallas Khechel I see where they might fit in and sign them to one year deals. It's usually for relievers or bench bats. Other than that I try to hold off on making trades until around the deadline. It's tough though when you see players that can help your team immediately. I also plan ahead and see which guys will be free agents at the end of the year and may trade guys away to open holes for those pending free agents.

Re: How trade happy do you get & when?

The only way i'm happy is if i'm trading. I know i'm probably in the great minority with this regarding how I play franchise, but I approach it as it's my world and I do what I want to make it fun. I always start with the Brewers, but usually by year 2 or 3 the team is barely recognizable.

First thing I do is sign all FA's of any trade value. Wait a month or two until teams will accept trades for them, and then go wild. Essentially I treat it as a fantasy land and play with the players that I find the most fun.

My current lineup in year 2 i'm having a blast with:

        Adalberto Mondesi SS
        Ronald Acuna CF
        Christian Yelich LF
        Vlad Guerrero Jr 3B
        Kyle Schwarber RF
        Miguel Andujar 1B
        Wilson Contreras C
        Keston Hiura 2B
        P

        Rotation:

        Jack Flaherty
        Tyler Glasnow
        Brandon Woodruff
        Freddy Peralta
        Corbin Burnes

        Pen:

        Jessie Biddle L
        Carter Capps R
        Diego Castillo R
        Alex Claudio L
        Josh Hader L
        Seranthony Dominguez R
        Jose Alvarado L

I do play with sliders on HOF so I dont steam roll every team. But definitely win more than not, as I should with the team I cheesed my way to.

Re: How trade happy do you get & when?

Depending on my franchise, my IRL franchise match trades the Reds actually make, in my Fantasy franchise I make several trades prior to Spring Training, I try to reacquire a lot of past Reds, Ohio born players and a few liked underdogs. I do not use force trades, even though trade logic is not perfect, I have to be creative.

But after that, I am happy and normally don't make any trades during the season.

I also like signing and trading for players who are from my teams home town. Thought I was the only one.

Re: How trade happy do you get & when?

trading is my crack in this game. if a payer or players are not playing up to my expectations (and I play all games)

they will be gone sooner rather than later. this is why after my first offseason of my carryover franchise from 18 to 19, and making some really stupid moves and having to make a bunch of trades to get my team back to a + side of revenue. I turned to trade to auto.

actually, I turned all functions yo auto except lineups and rotation.

luckily I have a good portion of my complete organization signed to five-year deals.

Am I taking a chance with my few FA's that I have maybe not come back? of course, I am. however, it just makes sure I don't Go on stupid offseason stuff...

Does anyone reverse their own trades a month or two down the line?

I 100% regret trading Marcus Stroman, but love the prospects I got back for him.

I made a bunch of moves expecting to be non-competitive, and all of the sudden I'm 0.5 games out of the 2nd wildcard position 60 games in with a Stroman sized hole in my rotation.

I’ve done that before but mainly when i feel the trade wouldn’t have been realistic IRL. For example, MLBTS 17 I had a Rockies franchise where I traded Brenden Rodgers (and someone else) for Cody Bellinger. I don’t think this trade would happen IRL so I traded them back like 3 months later.

If I end up making a bad trade, I don’t revert back cause that’s my own dumb move lol.

I guess when I have reverted back is when I realize the I completely hosed the CPU haha

Re: How trade happy do you get & when?

I can get pretty trade happy when it comes to all sports games I play, but it also usually kills the immersion for me.

That being said, I fired up The Show 18 a couple months back (wanted to play with the fictional rosters), but ended up starting a Orioles franchise with the last OSFM roster released. Goal was to have a wild franchise, and see what I could wheel and deal prior to purchasing 19. I actually started really enjoying what I had created and only recently purchased 19 when it went on sale.

I don’t quite remember the order of events I went, or in what season they occurred. I’m currently in year 3 (2020). Sometime during year 1, I picked up Josh Harrison and Mikael Franco. I also picked up Vladdy Jr and kept him in AAA until this season. My idea was to have Vladdy play 3rd and move Franco to 1st. Offseason rolled around and I picked up Marwin Gonzalez and Matt Adams. Adams moved Trumbo to DH during the second season, and then a Trumbo became completely obsolete after an injury and his replacement started and stayed hot. I figured I could still go with my plan of moving Franco to 1st when Vladdy got the call, and move Adams to DH. Franco wasn’t playing the way I wanted or needed, so I made a move to get Max Muncy and then Miguel Sano (I had a really good 1st year amateur draft and leveraged all but two of my picks in trades). Muncy took over 1st, Adams to DH, and Sano at 3rd. At some point, Nick Senzel became available in free agency, so I signed him and moved him to CF in AAA. We made he playoffs, but lost in the ALDS due to pitching.

My plan was to address pitching in the offseason, so I went and signed Xander Bogaerts.

                    My current lineup consists of
                    C - Audry Perez
                    1B - Max Muncy
                    2B - Josh Harrison
                    3B - Miguel Sano
                    SS - Xander Bogaerts
                    LF - Marein Gonzalez/Scott Schebler/Trey Mancini
                    CF - Nick Senzel
                    RF - Vladdy Jr
                    DH - Matt Adams

My ace Pitcher is a 77, and my 5th starter is a 71. We will probably win the division (on pace for 110 wins), but I wouldn’t be surprised if injuries keep us down or outright lose with poor pitching again in the playoffs.

Adams hit 54 home runs in his first season with me(winning MVP and almost having the Triple Crown), and Muncy had 44 split between time with the Dodgers and Orioles. I think I’m up through the draft in season 3, and have 3 or 4 hitters on pace for 30-40+ HRs. Best SP is somewhere around 4.5 ERA.

Re: How trade happy do you get & when?

In every franchise I usually make a lot of trades before the first season begins to get my roster and farm where I want it: dump off some bad deals, send some veterans to contenders, flip older prospects for younger ones, dump farm cloggers, etc...

From there on, it’s pretty much just trading off guys at the deadline in realistic deals or salary dumps in the offseason to sign cheaper replacements.

I will maybe swing a few minor league deals to shore up depth and then usually around the all star break I start with a few. Day or 2 before the deadline is when I do most of my trading.

It depends on where my team is at. If I'm in rebuild mode like I am right now in my Tigers franchise then I'll make some trades sometime between the all star break and the trade deadline. In this case I usually look to ship out veterans with decent trade value that I don't see in my teams future plans for prospects. Even though it's never a guaranteed thing with prospects the more lotto tickets you have the better chance a few of them will work out.

If I'm in contention getting closer to the deadline I'm less likely to make a trade. I'll usually browse trade blocks or rosters of teams out of contention to look for veterans in areas my team is lacking either because of injury or lack of depth.

Im doing a Tigers one myself and I’m sending Zimmerman and Miggy off at the deadline, maybe Harrison as well.

What’s a realistic landing spot for Miggy? I heard the Astros were in the mix

For me it depends on how realistic you want to keep it, like for me I can make trades whenever but I have to use the Trade finder and whatever it comes up with is who I got to give up to get that player. Also you can use Trade block and only get players from there

To be honest in my opinion there is no realistic landing spot for Miggy. In today's MLB no team is going to want to take of that contract. Zimmerman you might be able to move in the last year of his deal. The problem is with discussing realistic landing spots is that your franchise may be playing out a little differently than the actual MLB so different teams may be in contention. What I did was take a picture on my phone of the standings in each division and the wildcard race. That way I had a quick reference when using trade finder or browsing rosters to see which teams are actually contending.

In my Franchises to try and keep a trade realistic if I'm trying to trade a veteran for prospects I make sure that A) the team I'm sending them to is actually in contention and B) that the veteran(s) I'm sending are actually positions of need for that team.

I just finished the first season in my Tigers Franchise I ended up trading Shane Greene and Nick Castellanos for prospects. I'm not in front of my PS4 right now so off hand I don't remember for who. I then also tried to trade Matthew Boyd but wasn't able to draw in any offers that I thought were worth it due to his age and how many years of cheap team control I still have on his contract. I moved Miggy from 1st base to full time DH to hopefully extend his playing career. I was thinking about moving Nick Castellanos to 1st base but then ended up drafting a STUD power hitting 1st baseman in round 1. For me that meant that Castellanos was no longer in my long term plans at 1st base and his defensive liabilities in the outfield I decided to get something for him.

In the 1st offseason I didn't make any crazy signings, just a couple of lower end veterans to plug holes on my MLB roster until my young guys are ready to go. The only one I'm bringing up full time to start season 2 is Casey Mize, but am hoping Kyle Funkhouser will be ready for some spot starts to start getting him MLB exposure. Hoping by the 2021 season to finally have a lot of the young core up, then I may actually spend a little in free agency to add a high price Veteran or two. Sorry for the long post just enjoy discussing team building when it comes to sports games.
