Relief Pitcher Roles
If you guys have to put a non-closer into a closer role due to injury will they not be as effective as they are as say middle relief or setup? I have Chapman injured for 1-2 months and moved Kahnle into the closer role. He’s been lights out all season until he became my closer. My question is, would it make a difference if I changed Kahnle’s primary position to closer or does that not even matter?

Good question. I’d be surprised if he did worse though because usually when you move a regular bullpen guy to closer his morale goes up. Then again, I’d be surprised if morale has any use at all in this game when it comes to player performance.

Re: Relief Pitcher Roles
I doubt it matters*. If you let the cpu set your lineup, rotation & bullpen, it will put the reliever with the highest overall at closer even if he is just a regular reliever, unless his stamina is so high he's better fit in long relief. what might keep a regular reliever from performing as well as most closers would be a relatively lower clutch rating

I’ve actually since replaced Kahnle with Britton since I pretty much gassed Kahnle in his last game, had him throw 30 + pitches. Britton is 2 for 2 in save opportunities in the last 2 games. One was a 13th inning 8-6 win (Kahnle blew a 6-3 lead in the 9th giving up a 3 run homer to Trout) the next I was down 6-3 in the 9th and rallied for 6 runs against the Angels and won 9-6. I did change Britton’s primary position to closer before the second game and he dominated. 2 K’s and a weak popout while throwing only 9 pitches.
