    Zone hitting v Pure Analog

I've been working on my zone hitting. Seems I'm able to do more when it comes to situational hitting with it. But a lot of the time I'm either popping up, or rolling the barrel of the bat over the ball.

For those of you who use zone hitting on the regular, if you've got any tips to pass along it'd be greatly appreciated. When I hit with pure analog, with stride on, it seems sometimes the barrel "window" post swing shows that the swing was nowhere near the ball. With zone I'm usually a lot closer to squaring it up, but I'm just a bit too low or a bit too high to get good wood on the ball...

    Thanks

One thing to remember with zone hitting (I'm sure its the same as analog but I don't use it so I don't know for sure) is that early and late swings will change your swing plane.

Early timing will result in the PCI indicator being above the ball whereas late timing will result in the PCI indicator being below the ball. The degree to which the PCI is above or below depends on how early/late you were on the swing.

This could be resulting in you popping up (late) or rolling over (early) the pitches.

I thought that was the purpose of having the indicator to begin with. To help mitigate some of the early/late swings... So you could kind of "go with the pitch"... Obviously if you're mad early or late then that would be a factor... But even when I have good timing I'm popping up, or getting on top of the ball and driving it into the dirt.

When it works, it's great... But when I've got the bases juiced, and roll over the pitch for a double play, not so much.

I just find that pure analog doesn't exactly get you swinging where the ball is in relation to the strike zone. Even if the swing is well timed. That's what made me really start looking at Zone hitting. The buttons are stupid imo.... They work great for contact/regular/power swinging when using the stick... But to swing with them just feels like 1995...

I haven't really messed with the analog pitching yet. I still love the meter introduced by MVP. One other mechanic is love LOVE to see them carry over from that series is how the ball would flash a certain color right at release. Allowing the batter to "read" fastball, curve/slider etc... I thought that was brilliant. Cause you really can't see the seams on a baseball in the game. But that split second color allowed you to (if you were doing it right) read the pitch and adjust. That's one thing I'd really like to see the series do next year. It was a fantastic mechanic and it's a shame it's not there anymore.

(I also loved the vision cone in Madden, but that's a whole different thing)

No the indicator (which can be turned off) is just a cursor helping you move the sweet spot of the bat to the ball. It will move depending on the timing of your swing.

Grab a pen and a piece of paper. Write 2 columns of either 1-50 or 1-100.

Hop into practice mode with your favorite hitter and a good pitcher and do 50 or 100 at-bats using Pure Analog and then Zone.

That’s what I did and found out I batted .450 with zone and .225 with Pure Analog. Little time consuming, and you might get mixed up, but I think the results will speak for themselves. My numbers using Zone were FAR better than my numbers using Pure Analog. And I had used each, Pure Analog probably more, for quite some time before ultimately switching to Zone full-time after my test.

              Solid idea. Thanks.
