    Who would you draft?

I'm in a bit of a conundrum here. Let me preface by saying I'm on The Show 18 due to financial restrictions. I'm playing as my hometown Tigers, and we have a plethora of starting pitching prospect depth, but no offensive prospects. So with the first overall pick, I've narrowed my choices down to three options, but I'm not sure who I actually want to take. All three are outfielders, and I feel any one of them would be a perfect fit. So I'm just curious who you would take with that first overall pick

    Re: Who would you draft?

I would take Brett Perez the 18 year old Center Fielder. IMO, he appears to the best all around prospect in terms of hitting, defense, and speed.

Plus with his arm strength, he can easily play all 3 outfield positions and fit in very well in each.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Brett Perez seems like the safer pick, especially if you need a potential leadoff guy.

Jose Moya has better potential to be a 5 tool guy, but is a riskier pick overall.

Personally I'd go for Perez, but at the very least I'd say eliminate Elvis Rosales from your consideration.

        Re: Who would you draft?

Perez is who I was looking at as the first option myself. I have Christian Stewart is perhaps the number one batting prospect in my organization in one corner, and I think Daz Cameron is projecting to be more of a corner outfielder so far for me as well if he can continue developing. And not really a lead-off type of guy. His OBP so far is fairly low, and he hits better in the bottom of the order at AA
Who knows: maybe I'll get lucky and manage to get both 🤞 (wishful thinking on my part lol)
This draft for me appears to be heavy on outfield prospects as I've found a lot that, once scouted, still have good potential of 70 or higher.

As much as I support and root for my Tigers, this team is trash lol. Middle of May and were the worst in the league. I think we have like 17 wins or somewhere around there. I'm excited for our pitching prospects as Franklin Perez, Alex Faedo, Beau Burrows, Matt Manning, and almost all of them are dominating in AA. Each of them have an ERA under 2.5, WHIP under 1.1, and good FIP as well.
Batting wise...we have Stewart, catcher Jake Rogers and outfielder Daz Cameron performing. That's pretty much it lol. Ugh

They're all teenagers and their ETA is the next season, I really dont think you can go wrong with any of them. My personal preference is cf or rf before lf (heck, my granny can play left field) so like previous said, Perez.

Agreed on the Perez pick. Seems to be the most talented out of them. Let us know which option you do take, how they end up and how the other picks end up onve youre able to see them in the signing page

I should be getting to the draft later today once I'm back home. I think I will be taking Perez as the Number One pick and we'll see how it goes from there. I have a bunch of other options for later in the draft I'm excited to try to get as well, so fingers crossed I can get some potential bats in this farm system other than just Perez

                  Re: Who would you draft?

After running through the draft, I am quite pleased with my selections. I did end up drafting Brett Perez first overall, who ended up the best of the three potential-wise with a 97 potential. Elvis Rosales was drafted 6th by the New York Mets and has 92 potential, while Jose Moya was drafted 13th by the Florida Marlins and has 91 potential.
I'm intrigued by who's gonna end up having better careers between these threeMLB(R)%20The%20Show(TM)%2018_8.jpgMLB(R)%20The%20Show(TM)%2018_4.jpgMLB(R)%20The%20Show(TM)%2018_5.jpg

                    Re: Who would you draft?

Looking at the rest of the draft, I really got some solid bats into our system. And I didn't even realize it until after the draft, but four of the five we signed were 18 years old lol Our second pick was infielder Odell Cooley from Maine. 70 overall, 89 potential. Our third pick was infielder Fernando Becerra from the Dominican Republic. 72 overall, 87 potential.
Pitcher Eric Coker from the Netherlands was taken with our fifth pick. At 70 overall and 77 potential not the greatest, but he has a K/9 rating of 78, BB/9 of 64 with 78 velocity and 90 break. H/9 and HR/9 are a bit worrisome at 40 each, but could be a solid starter with a two-seam fastball, sinker, slider and change-up
Fifth rounder Robby Haynes is a lefty out of the Dominican Republic that is the final selection we are signing with 67 overall and 74 potential.
Our 6th rounder isn't getting signed. Demetrius Ouellette out if Ohio. 52 overall with 63 potential and is 20 years old. His BB/9 is his best rating at 48, the others are 37 or lower, though he does have 83 velocity. I'm more inclined to move some starters to the bullpen instead.

So, to sum it up, our draft consisted of:
                    OF Brett Perez 73/97
                    IF Odell Cooley 70/89
                    IF Fernando Becerra 72/87
                    RHP Eric Coker 70/77
                    LHP Robby Haynes 67/74

All five could potentially be on the roster next year, but I'll probably start them in AA to see how they perform. But I don't expect them to be in the minors longMLB(R)%20The%20Show(TM)%2018_7.jpgMLB(R)%20The%20Show(TM)%2018_6.jpgMLB(R)%20The%20Show(TM)%2018_3.jpg

I guess it worked out taking Perez, and I can understand everybody's reasoning if you want an all-around OF, because he's superior defensively.

I'm a little confused why you would say that Moya was the riskier pick, as well as mentioning Perez's potential to be a leadoff hitter.

Do you consider Moya a riskier pick solely because of his defensive ratings?

Moya has better current & future contact and power ratings. His discipline & base stealing ratings, 2 factors I would consider key to batting leadoff, are significantly better than those of Perez. Why would Perez make a better leadoff guy? Is Vision so important that the slight edge that Perez has in that category outweighs all of those other ratings?

Also, while Moya has a weaker arm, he's no slouch as a defender. In fact his Reaction rating is the best of the 3.

I did a quick search & wasn't able to easily find the answer to this question -- Does a player's Speed rating reflect his speed on both the basepaths and in the field? If so, does that mean the Reaction rating only impacts how good of an initial jump a fielder gets on a batted ball? I believe both of these are true, but just wanted to get confirmation from someone else with more experience playing the game.

Speed impacts both basepath running and speed in the field. Reaction impacts initial jump and how often the fielder can unlock that full speed in the field.

The main factors that drive me away though were the weak arm and the fact that his power numbers, while higher than Perez, still required him to grow above expectations to be a real difference maker.

The fact that Perez is a CF is also a factor. The defence engine has less punishment for a CF playing out of position than a LF, and Perez had the attributes to field any OF position well.
