When do you think "retiring" a closer is a good idea?

I've been using Blake Treinen from the A's as my closer for a while. He's got 98 saves. I also just got Trevor Hoffman as a reward for a program (I think)... I figured I'd let him hit 100 then got to Hoffman full time. I'll still use him out of the pen, just no more closing games out.

I couldn't tell you if he's having a solid real life season, but his card for most of the season was a base 84, and would mod up to an 89, sometimes higher.

His sinker can be devastating. He's only blown 4 chances in 104. He's been in 128 games for me, pit he'd 98.2 innings, he's 2-5, so he blew 5 saves, not 4. ERA OF 2.01 and under a 1 WHIP (0.74) with only 11 walks.

If you're looking for a reliable closer who is vastly underrated compares to his numbers, and will get the job done, you can not go wrong with Blake Trienan. Just a tip...

Do you think he should be another arm in the pen, or keep him closing even though I've got Hoffman's signature series now?

I actually had trouble with Treinen. I got him because of the sinker and the pitch variety, but I really struggled with his long windup.

I loves using him. His plus sinker did a lot of the hard work for me. It took me a few games to figure out where his pitches break at/to... I'd def recommend giving him another shot. He's been absolutely lights out for me in almost 140 appearances. Now I've got Chapman, Hoffman, Yates and Hader as my big 4 in the pen. I got Oh too, but haven't pitched with him yet.

There's a huge difference between those guys and Blake Treinen though. Seems a little easier to close out games...

But Treinen has been a monster for me.
