    PS5 development kits?

For those in the know, do game developers have these now? Would some aspects of the show be in production for PS5 now or are all resources still full go for the PS4?

Just curious as I haven't a clue about these types of things. I would imagine it's fun seeing new hardware for developers.

I wonder if they have to remake all the stadiums from scratch?

The only thing I'm confident about is they are figuring out how to market and make as much money from DD as possible for next years game.

To provide an answer to the OP's question before this thread heads down the "DD is the devil and SDS only cares about it" rabbit hole...yet again....

I don't think anyone can say with 100% certainty that the developers have PS5 dev kits to work on MLB The Show for the PS5, and they will never come out and say (I've asked ). But I would be extremely surprised if they do not have them at this point, especially being a first party developer.

If they handle PS5 similarly to how they mentioned the PS4, SDS won't say anything about PS5 until at a later date - possibly until Feb 2021. May be a little different since PS4 and PS5 are similar architecture.

re-remembering Show 14 coming to PS4 kinda bums me out, if Show21(?) winds up the same way (May release).

hopefully SDS will have a dev kit by next spring, though cb is probably spot on on about them more than likely already having access. whats probably more important for an early April Show 21 release is that Sony increase the SDS team size. and thats something I have no idea if that is possible or likely. but I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed lol

They had ps4 dev kits well before. They are on lockdown. I'll assume same goes for the 5.

I don't think they will have the same issues that made the PS4 version of The Show a May release in 2014. Coming from PS4 to PS5 is vastly different then going from PS3 to PS4. It would not surprise me if they are able to release both versions of The Show in March of 2021 at the same time.

Yeah, I watch a lot of YouTube, but besides that, I've read articles stating that Devs have had the dev kits for about 10 months now like you said. Originally they were basically open air PC test benches and only recently have been given an enclosure.

I don't think that the 2021 version of this game will be a port. they will by then have to be working on both the ps4 and ps5 versions separately... they will have a full year after the launch of 20 to do this... I see no issues.

From a tech standpoint the PS5 is vastly more powerful than the PS4, but sadly as long as they have to have both versions which will be very similar in function, it will only hold back the full potential of what the game could be on PS5 and that could take a few years.

This should be the smoothest console transition ever, as both consoles are basically just PCs, unlike previous generations.

As such, I'd expect whatever version of the Show appears on it first to be basically the same as the PS4 version, except with the ability to unlock higher framerates ( I hope).

I'd like to see an experienced MLB manager like Bobby Cox, Joe Girardi, or someone similar be brought in and watch hours of gameplay, the CPU's AI, and suggest improvements to this and that. All sports video game companies like SDS, 2k sports, and EA Sports should do this with their products.
