Re: 100 nGB UHD BR Disc on PS5
Also, until digital downloads retail for less then physical games, and physical game are still a thing, I will avoid digital downloads (unless deep PSN discounts happen).
I see no reason why a digital copy fetches the same dollar amount as a physical games does. They have to not only produce the disc, game box, and cover, but also ship out the games to brick and mortar stores around the world.
Whereas with digital download, they only need to pay for upkeep of the server, which would also house other services, so it would need to be maintained either way.
Truly mind-boggling to me (unless I'm missing some major piece of the puzzle here).Comment

100 percent this. It pays to trade in a game when completed if you really never plan or expect to revisit the title.

Just found out today when I was at Best Buy; you can purchase a replacement plan basically for $10 extra when you buy a game and you have two years to return the game and they will give you he full price you paid back in store credit to buy another gameComment

Re: 100 nGB UHD BR Disc on PS5
Honestly, I have broken a disc or two just taking it in and out of the case. I also recall my PS2 chewing up a disc when the lens on the reader got damaged with dust. I had to buy this weird CD with little brushes on it to keep it from happening again.
The hassle for me is the getting up to change the disc if I want to change games, or waiting for the optical drive to spin up and read the disc. Also storing the damn discs... I barely have enough storage space in my condo as it is.
Digital content is so smooth and effortless to me by comparison. I will admit, I don't understand how to this day they are still the same price as physical copies (makes zero sense other then the "because we can" argument), and not being able to resell can be a bummer (although that might change in the near future... and I also am not even sure where to go to trade in games in Canada anymore). But I rarely want to trade in games anyways these days
Having super fast internet with no bandwidth limit, I'd have a hard time justifying physical over digital for myself.Comment

Really? How does that work and do you know what it’s called? Sounds like an awesome deal.

Is this for real? If so, basically a no-brainer, do this every time thing, for sports titles.... right?Comment

"Product replacement.
If your product stops working, a replacement or store credit will be provided at a Best Buy store or by mail."
Maybe there was a misunderstanding with the store associate that the game would have to be in non-working order to be given back store credit for the game purchase.
It doesn't really make any sense otherwise to me.Comment

Re: 100 nGB UHD BR Disc on PS5
Seems odd that we are still doing physical media next gen. I ditched physical media ages ago, and looking back, it was such a hassle.
Plus there is the fact that if a disk broke, I'm SoL, whereas if my hard drive breaks, redownloading my games is easy.
Seems like it would just be a formality to me. I mean, there is no way an optical drive is going to load up textures anywhere near as fast as that hard drive tech they are using. I guess it's just another way to distribute the game.

In Australia it costs $99 to buy a game digital day 1 from the PS store.. the advantage? I can play it at midnight
But I can buy a physical copy for about $69 day one... only con is I couldn't play it at midnight.. $30 saving here just to wait till the morning. and i heard the friggin thing forever too, oh Look I even get a case with it and art work!
I still have PS one games that still work on my PS2.. 20+ years old games.. yet they want us to re buy some of these games on PS store.. I believe e this is the REAL reason we don't have TRUE backwards comparability (I am sick of having 3 systems in my tv cabinet and having to use HDMI slots and buy splitters.
The 2nd thing is the problem with Digital is you actually don't ever OWN the copy.. all your doing is paying for a licence. if that company shuts down or PS store ever does and your HD dies it;s GONE look at the silent hill play trailer you can never get it again unless you still have to saved from when it first came out.
just like streaming that means if you have Disney plus and you decide 'I wanna save money for a while I won't pay for it for a few months'.. it means you can't watch those movies or tv shows.. HOWEVER if you bought the movies or TV you can watch it whenever the hell you like for the rest of your life.
I can certainly see the convenience of digital or streaming, it is there straight away and less storage room. and limitless space.. but as a rip off cost and the fact you don't actually own it you only pay to licence it that could end at any given time.. is a problem for me.
now maybe if digital was $30 less and the roles reversed then I might just switch to digital downloads.Last edited by ninertravel; 12-19-2019, 07:21 PM.Comment
