    MLBPA Question

In light of the recent signing of Mariners 1B Evan White to a major league contract extension, will he appear in the game with a face and proper MLB Photo?

For those of you who don't know the story, White hasn't played above AA, but he has now signed an MLB deal, been added to the 40-man roster, and will be the Mariners opening day first baseman. He HAS signed his agreement with the MLBPA.

So, as I already stated, does this mean he has the green light to have a picture and face scan in the 20?

    Re: MLBPA Question

It has been my understanding that they have to acquire one day of service time at the major league level before they can be added to the game.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

This is correct. Also the players rights can be purchased (Through negotiations with said player or players) as well even without and at bat or inning pitched. I.E. Ohtani.

Also re: Face Scans, SDS has said in the past that the face scans they take during Spring Training go into the game the following year, not the current one. So any face scan made of a player this upcoming Spring would not be in the game until Show '21.

They have said that in the past but I think that was disproved by Guerrero last year. I think it’s an under promise/over deliver type scenario.

That's true, I forgot about him.

That's one of many reasons this game needs a player DNA feature similar to 2K.

is he (White) a top 5 prospect? I know he was #100 last spring training but if he isn't top 5 come 2020 spring training I dont look for him to A.) be on the default roster, B.) have a face scan, but there isn't anything stopping Sony negotiating with him individually IF they thought he was worth their while. Back in 2013 or 2014 Oakland's Hiro Nakajima was on the Show default roster (dont know if he was scanned into the game but they definitely had a real photo of him in game) and never spent even 1 day on the 25 man roster IIRC

I mean, a guy starting 155 games at 1B in 2020 seems worth their time...

While anything is possible, it is in no way a guarantee that he will start 155 games. I doubt someone who's never even played a game in AAA would garnish the attention for a separate negotiation when Sony could just wait until he plays his first MLB game like everyone else.

at this point, that's still just speculation and hope. In the 2013 off-season, Nakajima was handed an Oakland starting job also, w/o earning it. Then spring training hit and they realised he wasn't ready for primetime. But it could be a moot point, for all we know White was in San Diego during the winter meetings and was scanned for the default roster. It'll definitely be interesting over the coming months to see how it plays out, for sure. But if White is all business and no nonsense, he may not want to be bothered with stuff like being scanned so he can focus on the task at hand. I think it was a pretty good while before Mike Trout could be bothered to be scanned. So in the end, it will be up to White if he wants to be scanned and he has to decide that's important to him. *shrug*

Why would they spend time and resources on negotiating a separate licensing agreement with him, when they can just wait until after Opening Day and then add him in their first roster update?

Evan will probably be competing more with Nola at first, and Vogelbach will be the primary DH. I guess the M's have no plans to resign Ryan Court.(?)

if Evan does indeed hold onto the firstbase job after spring training is over, I'll be curious to see his hitting attribute ratings in the Show.

This went all out the window though when Ohtani came along.
