    Wait for PS5?

I have always bought the show but the last few years has seen little improvement specially in graphics. Should I just hold until the PS5 version with a real upgrade?

I am leaning towards skipping MLB 20 and waiting for MLB 21 to come out next year on the new PS5 console. But that could all change if the dev streams reveal some amazing change I would like to experience this year.

You would probably want to wait a few years into the ps5 then.. The good graphical jump usually happens a couple years into the new console cycle. Basically once they stop making the game for the previous gen console is when the graphics tend to step it up.

I agree here. The first release of MLBTS on PS4 was 14. No doubt there were graphics improvements. However, it really wasn't until 17-18 (so three years from the initial release) that we saw the graphics mature to the point that we are at today and for the upcoming release of MLBTS20.

One caveat here is that the PS4 and PS5 architecture are the same (x86), so it SHOULD be easier for the devs to go "all-out" at an earlier stage then when they moved from PS3 architecture (CELL processor) to PS4 architecture (x86).

I am waiting but not because of the PS5, it is really because there is talk about the next game in the installment coming to PC is a lot more exciting to me honestly.

            Re: Wait for PS5?

I don't think the game is going to fundamentally change graphically for a long time. I keep having to remind people that they work on a 1 year development cycle. Fundamentally changing the game's engine takes more than a year, especially in this day and age.

Improvements you can expect in the PS5 generation:

            - Better framerates: The PS4 cannot go above 60 fps no matter what, but the PS5 will be able to go above 60, and will be able to utilize freesync when available in order to smooth out framerate dips.

            - Faster load times: The PS5 will be using a new proprietary SSD that will not only load games faster but also load in game assets faster. There is actually a cool demo out there on the internet where Sony discusses how there was a hard speed limit on how fast a player could travel through the world in the Spiderman game due to how long it took to load in textures. They then demo how much faster you could move through the same world on their new SSD. It's very impressive.

            - Better and more dynamic crowds: crowds are a very CPU intensive task. The more powerful CPU in the PS5 with (most importantly) more threads will allow for better crowds.

            - More texture load: While I doubt even the PS5 will be able to handle real all-star game uniforms, the increased RAM may allow for the grass to be loaded in at all times.

            - More Consistent 4k/VR performance: While I still think 1080p "fast" mode will remain the best way to play the game (especially if we can get framerates over 60 with freesync) The added power of the PS5 will make 4k gaming smoother and VR more accessible.

Things to not expect for the PS5:

            - New character models. This is a big ask and it's highly subjective if it's even needed. New added body types is a better and more realistic ask.

            - Cloth physics: A big ask to program, a resource hog, and honestly after seeing it implemented in other sports games I kind of don't want it in the show.

Just give me new dirt and always visible 3d rendered grass and I’m happy. Oh and more jersey option like top button(s) loose and maybe some flapping gold chains [emoji1]

Opening the game to more platforms should allow them to invest more into the game and improve the game more on an annual basis.

I doubt the game will be much different in year 1 of the next generation and the graphical improvement won't be as noticeable as prior generational jumps

Don't expect them to improve right away. It is possible to be a first iteration improvement, but I would expect it to take a game or two on the new platform before they can unlock the potential of the Ryzen chip they are using.

Remember video games have been mostly limited to 4 threads for years now, even on PC (because you can't program a port to use more or less threads). This isn't just an adjustment for SDS, but the entire industry.

Allow me to stress the MAY in that sentence. Will the increased RAM allow more texture load? Yes. Will it be enough to allow the grass to be loaded at all times? I have no idea.

                          I'm hoping for a solid 1440p option.

Graphics aside, after having lived through a few platform generation changes, just about all sports games seem to take a couple of years to hit their stride on a new platform as the developers get acclimated and the transition issues get taken care of first.

I'm waiting to see if they bring back Online Franchise before I decide.

If they don't bring it back i'm seriously considering skipping this years game for the first time in a decade.
