Something that struck me as odd was they increased base running aggressiveness for this year. Currently I find them to be overly aggressive now. Something that always frustrated me was the cpu being too perfect and instantaneous in reacting when miscues happen. I hope it is not magnified more because there is greater room for miscues to happen. To me, the game desperately needs the cpu base running aggressiveness slider it once had a while back for balancing.

I just hope the CPU will make a few more baserunning mistakes. You can throw them out and I've had legit highlight plays where I'm pumped by throwing the runner out but I always thought the CPU didn't take quite enough risk to enable these moments to occur a bit more frequently. I know the guys said that the CPU was going to push the pressure a little but not in an unrealistic fashion, so we should see some more opportunities for assists. Honestly, the guys do such a great job year to year, I'm not worried

That is interesting because I find they run themselves out of innings too often for being overly aggressive and allowing me to make the easy out. Two polar opposite situations occurring.

I suspect that if I was to play the new MLBTS 20 game right now, I would not notice a huge difference from 19 except that perhaps some of the new 700 animations to speak of would make the game flow smoother and more organic? I don't know. I don't play online DD games, so the "we are going to reward the more skilled players" changes mean little to me. But I do like that they are putting a greater emphasis on player ratings having a larger influence on the outcome of games and leads me to assume that it should translate to more realistic offline games whether they be franchise games or RTTS games.

I hate to say it as while they may not be so obvious, I think these defensive changes in this years game may be enough for me to part with my hard earned $$$ once again.

In fact each and every iteration 2009-2019 I have always seen and felt the improvements in gameplay.

Dare I also say since I am not a competitive online player and since I play with a totally clean screen I get to enjoy the game in it’s most organic state? I do not rely nor need to see any feedback on my swings or pitches. It allows me to play baseball and let ratings play out and the results of all my franchises and experiences have spoken for themselves.
Amen. Center swing players may get criticized, but I do believe that allows for an immense amount of different types of hits. Clean screen, classic pitching (no hot/cold zones to look at) auto field/manual throw, auto base running. It's going to translate just fine.

Loved playing defense in 19, and from this stream showing all the improvements to gameplay, I'm positive that this year will be the most enjoyable experience yet in the field!

Making defensive ratings matter even more than last year will be huge! No more hiding poor defenders in left field, as they WILL not be able to keep up with superior defensive outfielders. Really makes the DD team building different, especially for online play.

Should I really sacrifice defense for a super power guy, or will that end up biting me in the butt?!

Why is SDS and The Show such a good thing? This right here. They have made a game that IMO gameplay wise has been a win win for both offline Franchise players vs the CPU and those who love DD.

That is the ultimate compliment to a sports video game and the developers behind it.

When you watch the streams you can hear the knowledge of the guys and the passion. I have never questioned those things with the team at SDS. They want to give us a high quality game every year.,

They do work hard to get it right but there have been times when additions to the game caused problems elsewhere which they were slow to fix.

I'd point to a few years ago when they went along with a request for more chased pitches which resulted in more pitches in the dirt which resulted in excessive wild pitches - which didn't get fixed until next year's edition of the game. They also instituted ball curving which was overdone and were slow to fix the problem.

Not trashing the game but that is reality. When they institute changes they need to stay on top of it to adjust when necessary.

                    Could be slider related...

Me too. To often the CPU baserunners have tried to score from second when they had zero chance

No. Because I noticed the same thing and only play with pitch speed adjusted

Yeah I'm not sure what the culprit is, but its rare that I have the CPU run themselves out of an inning or into an easy out.

Yup....offline and H2H guys (irrespective of the modes either camp plays) can both have their itches scratched....and that is indeed a good thing.

MLB is a different animal than the other sports games due to the decreased reliance on AI to "make plays". You can (very naturally) make every catch, throw every pitch, and hit every ball. AI is a much bigger deal in games like Madden, FIFA, etc. where CPU-controlled players can (and often do) directly make plays throughout the games.

The issue with those games is when the H2H guys demand more "skill gap" or less "RNG", it results in devs making games watered-down because the first things to go are teammate AI and ratings-impact (which is devastating for vs CPU guys). A H2H guy playing MLB isn't going to complain much about the AI of the 2B covering 2nd when he's busy fielding the ball (i.e. "making the play") with the SS.

MLB can add more optional "skill-based" mechanics to different actions without dumbing-down the game and as a result, the two camps can co-exist quite a bit better.

So yes, SDS does a tremendous job in balancing needs but I also feel like some of that is just the inherent nature of this game.
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

I hope that somehow bunting can go back to where it was several years ago.

I hate the bunt mechanics. They are hit way too hard. Even with good bunters it is almost impossible to drag or push a bunt for a hit.

This is an area where online and h2h needs to be separated from offline.
