With getting seasons in being the grind that it is in an MLB video game I will be doing my usual Tigers franchise that I do every year. It’ll be nice this year having the full minors rosters ship with the game so I can get started with my franchise right away. I usually have a pattern that I sim games to get as many seasons in as I can because I also love the team building aspect of franchise modes.

I think madden is the only game that I end up running multiple franchises in, every other major sports title I usually just run a franchise with my hometown Detroit team. It would be fun to try other teams in the Show but it’s such a grind even playing one franchise.

Grinding an MLB The Show franchise is the most rewarding and exhausting thing I've ever done in sports gaming...lol.

I recall doing an entire season (no Spring Training) back in MLB '16 with the Cubbies, same year they won it all. I ended up getting to the NLCS game 5/6 and lost to the Dodgers (who went on to win it all). Losing in the NLCS honestly felt like I lost in real life, it was hard, I couldn't play for a few days.

However, going through ups and downs during the season with certain hitters, pitchers, and watching teams go from Wild Cards to Division Winners was outright incredible. The grind is one of those things you have to do at least once.

...Back on topic... I really like the Angels & Mets for this season. Los Angeles' lineup is going to be fun to hit with and trying to get deGrom/Thor some hardware would be a great challenge before they eventually flame out or move on from the Mets.

If it’s done well this year, March to October might scratch that itch of being able to use other teams without putting in a full 162 game grind.

I am really pulling for this too. I love playing The Show year round. But I can only commit to one play every inning, every pitch franchise (my carryover Yankees franchise from MLB 17 is that franchise).

It would be great to be able to run with some other teams in MTO if they improve it a lot from last years debut.

Re: MLB The Show 20: Here Are Some Potential Teams to Use

Honestly never managed to play more than about an hour of Mto last year, I hated pretty much everything about it. But at least with full minor league rosters in the game it means it will at least this year be a good springboard to start a season in the second year, while having actually tried out your players a bit. (even if I don't like the arcade and unrealistic way the mode plays)

There are a few teams I'd be interested to play with, who the first year or two would be a real grind, so much so that I know I'd never actually manage to stick it out, so hopefully they've at least made it a bit more enjoyable and engaging. My fear is that it is still massively tied to DD and thus hugely limited as a result.

Someone like the Tigers would be a cool team to start with in year 2, or maybe even the Rockies, as they have a pretty big change coming up in 2 years when all the terrible contracts come off, but they also lose 3 of their best players (Gray, Arenado and Story)

Re: MLB The Show 20: Here Are Some Potential Teams to Use

Will MTO stick with Opening Day rosters for the entire year? I know that was what they did last year to start but did it ever get updated? If it's only OD rosters then by mid June I feel like it's pointless because stars emerge and others typically fade...heaven forbid there's a huge trade shakeup.

Gameplay doesn't always bug me because I know things can get gimmicky for video game purposes, but dang do I lose immersion when I can't play with the current/real life players as they should be.

I know you are talking about franchise here, but not long ago I started a new RTTS SS where I purposely had the Tigers draft him because the Tigers are not deep at SS and it was felt that I could land the starting role on the Tigers sooner than most other teams (which is what happened, my RTTS SS was called up from the AA team to the Show and given the starting role in the middle of June in his rookie season completely skipping AAA). But there are consequences for this decision and that was that it is not easy playing for a less than talented team. I was playing a full presentation RTTS game yesterday against the Yankees where all players bat, not just my RTTS characters and in the 4th inning Tigers pitcher Matthew Boyd was absolutely destroyed by the Yankees hitters first walking the first few batters he faced followed by surrendering hit after hit and once the dust had settle he ended up giving up 10 runs in the inning. Now this was a Spring Training game in my RTTS guy's 2nd season, so the RTTS manager kept Boyd in game despite the beat down the Yankees were doing to him. But it had to have been the longest and most painful inning I have ever experienced in this game. So good luck with your Tigers franchise. It you play full games you are going to need tons of patience for the first season or two.

Oh yea, when I run a franchise I usually play a game then sim the next 3 or 4 games. I try to use a different starting pitcher every time until I get back to the first one I used. I'll also sometimes during a period that I normally sim just sim like the first 7 innings and jump in for the 8th and 9th to try and mount a rally or close out a game. Every now and then I'll also decide to play a game in a period I'd normally sim if there's an interesting matchup involved. I'll usually sim 3 or 4 games in a row though because I love the team building aspects and want to get in as many seasons as possible.

I fully expect my Tigers franchise to be a grind this year, the same way it has been the last couple of versions. Especially since I play on the harder difficulty levels because I like to really have to grind out wins, I play the game for the challenge. To be honest with playing on harder difficulties I think it’s been at least a couple versions of the show now since I’ve been able to build the Tigers in to a legit contender. I’m hoping this is the year I’m able to, either way I’m ready for the grind, I live for it.

This will be interesting let’s just hope it’s done well this year. This seems like it could be a good way to try out some different teams without grinding out 162 game seasons because I have 0 intentions on grinding out any more than my one Tigers franchise like that.

I am having a hard time figuring out what team I am going to run with in Franchise. There is no way I can play all 162 due to having a wife, 2 year old and a thriving business. So I normally play 1, sim 3-4.

I am down to either the Cubs, Tigers or moving a team to Montreal for the expos. The Tigers would be a very tough and fun challenge. The Cubs would be a more win now team that will compete for a piece of metal (world series). Sorry had to throw that in there as I can't believe the commissioner actually said that. Or moving a team to Montreal although I don't like the fact you can't use a generic stadium (like in Madden). So I don't know if I will relocate any team at all.

Tough decisions. Hell I am still playing MLBTS 17. I have been playing my RTTS guy since I did not have any time at all the last few years. I think I am finally ready to commit to play franchise mode again.

usually I'd pick Tigers over Cubs 9 out of 10 times but this year must be the 10th time. I really like Detroit and dislike the Cubs, but this year they are at a most interesting crossroads. You could add 1 or 2 pieces and be a legit piece of metal contender or you could just burn the whole thing down, firesale the whole ball enchilada wax, and ‘‘Make the Cubbies Lovable Again’’, really make the team ''yours''. if I have time to do a NL Central team it's always between Cincinnati and Pittsburgh but the Cubs would have to enter the mix this year. and another upside is it will probably be the most competitive division this season.

The Tigers are gonna have a killer rotation in the next few years if their young arms stay healthy and progress like they should. I'm excited to see guys like Mize, Manning, and Skubal come up.

                              Thanks for tha ideas fellas.

I'm prolly gonna have 4 franchises running.

                              1) Marlins Carryover from '19. We're in 2021. I have a created player rated 99 and signed Mookie. First place in division. First season in which I'm playing every pitch

                              2) Created team

                              3) "Baseball Heaven". All-time Rosters. Gonna primarily play as Dodgers but also any team/player/matchup that's dope

                              4) Pure GM/simulation. Prolly gonna use White Sox & Pirates

I have more connection to these young cubs players than any other team for some reason. I have never meet them or even been to Wrigley, there is just a feeling that I am more connected to them.

I do like playing with my Detroit teams but it does make it hard with some of the bone headed moves they make. I like to keep things realistic as possible. I just don't know if I can play as little as I do and lose so much. I feel like if I play 30 games per season with the tigers, I am probably going to lose most of them. I hate losing, even in video games.

I guess I will have to get the game first and get the time to look everything over and then make a decision.
