Harper Walks Off Nats Home Opener
    April 1, 2024

Bryce Harper sent a hanging curveball from Julio Alvarez into the right-center field bleachers in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Nats a 5-3 win, their first of the season. It was their home opener after having spent the first seven games of the year in LA and Arizona and limping home with a 0-7 record.

It was a game the Nats were in control of after plating three runs in the 3rd inning, claiming a 3-1 lead. That score would stand until the top of the 7th, when SS Richard Urena hit a solo shot to right. Back to back doubles by Eloy Jimenez and Jonathan Lucroy would tie the game in the ninth. Then came Harper's heroics off Alvarez in the 10th.

Nick Burdi Sidelined for Next Few Days

RHP Nick Burdi bruised his ribs when he slipped on the dugout steps after throwing a scoreless 8th inning in this afternoon's game. For now, the Mets are not sending him to the IL and are hoping he will be good to go in a couple days. Burdi has been the Mets closer for the last two years, racking up 82 saves with a 3.14 ERA and 132 K.

LHP Dan Shoemaker will serve as closer in the interim. His 100+ MPH fastball and nasty slider have drawn comparisons to Aroldis Chapman, albeit a poor-man's version. In 2023, he had a 1.70 ERA and a 0.83 WHIP with 75 K in 79.1 IP, serving as the Mets' 8th-inning man.

Re: MLB The Show 20 Franchise Discussion Thread

The Braves & Nats split a 4 game set in Atlanta.

This was a crucial series for us both.
We alternated wins. We didn't lose any ground against the Mets. We also maintained 0.5GM lead atop of W.C.

All games in the series were playoff intensed. Game 4 was my must win for me.

Game 4: Fried vs. Corbin, a battle between 2 lefties. It was billed as a pitcher's duel it owed up to it! The Nats Corbin went 7.0IP,7H,3R,3ER,0BB & 11K. Braves Fried countered with 8.0IP,3H,R,ER,OBB & 8K. Our "Ace' of the staff stood tall & earned the 3-2 victory! He is 18-6 on the yr.

We are now 80-64. Top of the W.C., 5.0GB of the NL East leading Mets. The Astros clinched the AL West with 18 games to play in the season.

We are heading to Philadelphia to take on the Phillies for a 4 game set. The Phillies season is over. They will be playing the "spoiler' role this final month. The record goes out the window when we play a divisional opponent.

By SP Fried pitching the last game vs the Nats. He will pitch the series opener in Nationals Park in 5 days. Which is pivotal, but first thing, first!

Mets Lose Series to Nats, Take Game 1 Against Phillies
        April 4, 2024

The Mets lost their second game in a row in walk-off fashion against the Nats, before salvaging the series finale. In game 2, C Lucas Herbert crushed Kelvin Herrera curveball to left-center, and the Nats won 2-1. It's a shame because Dave Monahan turned in his second quality start of the young season after an abysmal spring. There was a brief thought within the organization that Monahan was a flash in the pan last year, but that looks to not be the case.

The Mets avoided the sweep with an 8-2 win in the series finale and followed that up with a 6-2 win at Citizens Bank Park against the Phillies. The win was punctuated by a towering 3-run shot to right by Rafael Devers. Devers looks every bit the MVP that he was last year, a welcomed sign.

        Syndergaard Headed to IL

The Mets have placed RHP Noah Syndergaard on the 15-Day IL following a second inning departure in an 8-2 Mets win against the Phillies. Syndergaard came up lame after a pitch, having pulled a muscle in his back. While he could possibly be ready by the time of his next start, the Mets are playing the safe route and giving him a couple of weeks to recuperate. It's a long season and it's best to take care of your $30M/year Ace.

RHP Louis Elias will be recalled from Triple-A Syracuse and LHP Sean Machado will move into the rotation from a swingman roll. Machado started a couple of games last year, and is earning his stripes in the bullpen before potentially being moved into the rotation at some point in the future.

Machado replaced Syndergaard in the second-inning and was brilliant in his appearance. He went 3.2 IP, only giving up two hits. The Mets had plans for Machado to slide into the rotation to start this year before the surprising news of deGrom's retirement and the subsequent signing of Amir Garrett. Machado has had to settle for a spot in the bullpen, which he has been incredibly effective in. Machado has yet to give up a run in six innings of work.

Yankees Sweep Orioles, Take 2 of 3 From Cubs

With just 2 games left to go in June we now sit at 56-28. The highlight of this past 6 game stretch was a game 3 3-2 walkoff Win over the Cubs. With a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the 9th, Ryan Goins up with the bases loaded no outs, and Ryan ‘GOATins’ would a crush fastball deep towards the Yankee bullpen...CF Ian Happ races back...makes a desperate lunge...it’s out of his reach and hops over the wall for a walkoff ground rule double!
But Unfortunately there’s some big injury news...

DJ LeMahieu Out For Season With Torn ACL
LeMahieu already missed significant time with a Torn Hamstring and had just returned from IL 10 games ago. This gives us a big decision to make. After a big year in 2019 and a hot start through 31 games LeMahieu was about set to get paid this offseason looking for a significant salary increase from the 12M he’s making now. He was also our top extension candidate. For now, Torres slides back to 2B and Goins takes over SS again.

Question is...do we still resign him as he enters his age 32 season coming off a year mostly lost to injury? Will he be the same player? There’s a good chance there will at least be talks about an extension, but if he decides to chase the same type of deal he would’ve gotten with another healthy season, he might have to go somewhere else to get it.

We’ve also made two interesting waiver claims:
          White Sox OF Blake Rutherford
          Rangers OF Leody Taveras

Pretty surprising that no one else tried to take a chance on these two.
Taveras is a 21 year old switch hitting CF, he still has some work to do all around but he’s only 21 and the potential is definitely there. Rutherford is a former Yankee prospect, involved in the 2017 trade that brought Kahnle, Robertson, and Todd Frazier to the Yankees. He’s now 22 and still has potential, but definitely has quite a lot of developing to do if he’s going to reach and stick in the majors.

Pretty exciting for waiver claims. Waiver wire doesn’t get much better then this.

Next up: We close out June with a 3 game series @ the Orioles, the third game being on July 1st as we prepare for the ASB and Trade Deadline season.

            TRUE TO THE BLUE
            2020 Seattle Mariners (12-27)

Around the League Tuesday, May 5th, 2020
The Minnesota Twins (23-14), tied for first place in the AL Central with the Cleveland Indians (24-15), have made an effort to improve their pitching staff by acquiring starting pitcher Jose Urena from the Miami Marlins for middle infielder Nick Gordon. Through 7 starts and 38.1 IP in 2020 for Miami, Urena is 3-3 with a 3.76 ERA and 1.46 WHIP. He will make his first start in Minnesota on Friday against the Kansas City Royals (22-15), who are one game back of the division lead. The acquisition of Urena will slide Randy Dobnak into a swingman role out of the bullpen, where he excelled last year, and in a corresponding move, veteran Sergio Romo was sent to AAA. Romo has only appeared in five games thus far in 2020, and has given up 4 HR, 8 ER, and 5 BB in 3.2 IP for a bloated 19.64 ERA and 3.82 WHIP.

In Gordon, Miami is getting the brother of former Marlins All-Star Dee Gordon, and the Twins no. 17 overall prospect. Gordon will immediately make his debut at shortstop for the 14-22 Marlins, who are without veteran SS Miguel Rojas for 1-2 months (dislocated shoulder). The 24-year old Gordon was slashing .435/.458/.609 at AAA this year and will get the opportunity to play every day for the rebuilding Marlins at least until Rojas is healthy.

Mariners Searching for Answers Thursday, May 7th, 2020
A divisional series on the road versus the Oakland A’s produced a microcosm of the highs and lows experienced by Seattle so far this season. To begin the series, the M’s were treated to a 5-0 shutout victory spearheaded by a six-inning, five-hit performance from Japanese hurler Yusei Kikuchi. The following game found Seattle up 4-2 entering the bottom of the 7th after a six-inning, five strikeout effort from Taijuan Walker. The M’s and A’s added to their run totals and entering the bottom of the 9th, the Mariners were up 7-5. In his third save opportunity on the year, Carl Edwards Jr. was unsuccessful. The A’s tagged him for 3 runs and 4 hits to win it in walk-off fashion.

In the rubber match of the three game series, Justus Sheffield, perhaps the Mariners most reliable starter this season, allowed no baserunners through 1.1 IP. In the bottom of the 2nd, he was forced to leave the game after experiencing a pain in his neck. Yohan Ramirez, who had not allowed a run in his two appearances since being relegated to bullpen duties, entered the game. He allowed three singles and one run before escaping further punishment and finished the inning. In the following frame, the Mariners captured the lead thanks to a 2-run bomb to right-centerfield from first baseman Daniel Vogelbach, his 7th on the year. The M’s added a run to their lead by way of a Patrick Wisdom RBI double. In the next inning, Ramirez was pulled in favor of reliever Brandon Brennan after allowing two more runs. Brennan gave up a 3-run shot to the first batter he faced: Ramon Laureano. He struck out the next two batters, but the score was now 6-3 in favor of the A’s. The services of relievers Matt Magill, Austin Adams, and Sam Tuivailala were enlisted in order to finish the game. An 8-3 loss, issued to rookie Yohan Ramirez, was the result.

A season thus far marred by nagging injuries and inconsistencies has frustrations mounting in Seattle. M’s fans are clamoring for some sort of accountability and it seems that turnover on the coaching staff or active roster is necessary. The season began with rumors of an impending fire-sale and now it looks ever more likely. One M’s veteran, Mitch Haniger, who under-performed in an injury-shortened 2019 season, is experiencing a career revival and is posting perhaps his best season to-date in 2020. The 29-year old outfielder is cultivating trade value while slashing .331/.416/.481 with 5 HR and 22 RBI. The M’s have not yet made him available in trade talks, as they are evaluating their core of players for their next competitive window. Questions about the current roster construction are mounting, but many may not be answered until the trade deadline nears.

Cardinals sweep Cubs. Winners of 7 straight

The Cardinals swept the Cubs in Chicago over the weekend to extend their winning streak to 7 straight games.

The Cardinals offense was on point this series scoring 21 runs and collecting 43 hits. The pitching staff was a bit shaky as Dakota Hudson was roughed up in the series opener, but the bats bailed him out to the tune of a 9-5 win. Game 2 saw the bullpen blow up as Junior Fernandez was solid for 6 innings, but it would be Jonny Venters who would earn the win as Adam Cimber and Tyler Jay combined to blow a 5-0 lead heading into the 7th. Venters pitched a perfect 8th and Michael Wacha saved his 2nd game of the season. Kyle Funkhouser would dominate the Cubs in the series finale going 7 strong innings punching out 14 batters along the way. Zach Burdi and Jordan Hicks, who is in need of something positive, pitched perfect 8th and 9th innings respectively.

The Cardinals are off on Monday before they travel to Los Angeles for a 3 game series with the Dodgers followed by a 3 game weekend series in Colorado.

                  Jay’s Cubs Wrap Up: 2022

The North Siders entered June sitting atop of baseball but the schedule would get harder from here as their quality of opponent would test their merits. Early in the season they club had feasted on bottom feeders and middle of the pack teams. The cubs started the season by sweeping the Brewers in Milwaukee. Next up the Rockies came to town; Colorado lineup had struggled away from Coors field but their pitching staff had kept them afloat in the race for the NL West as it looks to be one of the most competitive divisions in baseball. The D Backs and Padres have exchanged 1st place throughout the season but the Dodgers and Rockies remain close. The series did not get off to a good start as Alex wood was hit early and often in a short outing. The cubs attempted to get back in it and were down by 2 late but could not get any more over homeplate. The cubs suffered another blow as Andrew Miller had to leave the game after facing two batters with what would be later diagnosed as a shoulder strain. The injury landed the reliever on the DL. With the roster move the Cubs called up Jovanny Cruz from Triple A Iowa. the righter hand had a solid spring but just missed the cut when rosters shorten and looks to make the most of his chance in the big leagues. The cubs also parted way with Dillion Maples. He had made the show in part due to being out of options but his lackluster performance this season made him expendable. He was DFA and ultimately picked up by the Rangers; Chris Martin, formerly of the Braves was picked up off waivers at the end of spring training and will get a chance to return to the majors after starting the year in Iowa. The Rockies took the cubs to task as they swept the club in games that were not close.

The Cubs hosted St. Louis next looking to get back on track. The Cubs pitching staff continued to falter as they could only take 1 game from the Cards and lost the series. The Cubs pitching staff struggled and the lineup could not keep up as the cubs faced the first bit of adversity of in the season. They looked to end the homestand strong's as the first place Yankee’s came to down for a 3 game series. The cubs again struggled as they could not contend with Giancarlo Stanton. The slugger came in leading the AL in homeruns and also posting a impressive .353 batting line. Stanton went yard two of three games including a 2 home run as AJ Puk had one of worst performances in what has been a bounce back season. Next up the Cubs headed to San Diego with a 4 game losing skid. The cubs would not have any favors as they looked to get on the winning side of things as they had to face the top of the rotation in Lamet and Lucchesi - both sporting ERA under 2.75. The cubs were more competitive but could not pull through as the losing streak ran to 6 games. Yu Darvish took the mound and the veteran was able to right the ship as he pitched 8 solid innings and get the Cubs their first win in a week.

The Cubs cooled a bit for June going 15 and 10 for the month. With Miller out more of the pressure fell to Kimbrel and he hasn’t been able to keep pace. His ERA has ballooned to 4.78; while he has only been marked with 3 blown saves he has struggled with giving away the long ball. There have been rumblings through the fanbase that would like to see Miller take over closing duties when he returns from the IR. In the end David Ross did not agree with the bleacher bums and Kimbrel remains the man to end games. Miller returned after his 15 day stint and has a ERA under 1.75 but the Cubs would like to ease him back so he stays fresh for the long haul. Miguel Amaya continues to be a break out candidate as he has worked his way into the lineup against left handers. He is sporting a .313 batting line. The Cubs lineup against southpaws has been a gauntlet for opposing pitchers. Davis Ross spoke to the press about his squad’s performance, “We wanted to bring Miggy along slowly and that has worked thus far, he’s been a pleasant surprise and gives us some flexibility. We can spell Rizzo at first or have him catch and put Willson in left; we have a group that really see’s lefties well and they have performed - when you can run out Turner, Bryant, Javy and Willson and have the other guys be no easy outs, that’s going to be a hard task for any pitcher.”

Oscar Colas has been the bright spot in a rough month for the Cubs as he has a 6-2 record with a 3.20 ERA on the year. He also is batting .299 with 15 home runs. Only Colas and Darvish sport a earn run average under 4 at this point but other pitchers look like they are on the verge of putting the rough month behind them. AJ Puk nearly made history as he was 1 walk away from the perfect game on June 30th. After walking one in the first the reds batters could not touch the big left hander as he struck out 12 and went the distance.
Around the league, Mike Trout is having a season for the ages as he his flirting with hitting 400. At the end of June he sits at .404 and 26 home runs. Trout easily leads the league in fan voting for the All Star Game and clearly is fully recouped from the MCL injury that allowed him to only play in 90 games last year. Jacob DeGrom looks like the early favorite for NL Cy Young as he ended June having not lot a game on the year, going 11-0 with an astounding 1.53 ERA. he will need to keep the pace as the Mets are in a tightly contested race for the NL East as the Mets, Braves and Marlins all find themselves within 2 games of first places

Cardinals sweep Dodgers again...win streak at 10

The Cardinals (14-5) and the Dodgers have met 7 times this season and the Cardinals have won all 7 meetings. They will not meet again this year unless they play in October.

The Cardinals swept the 3 game series in Los Angeles to extend their winning streak to 10 games on the season and improve to 14-5 on the year. The Cardinals will now travel to Colorado for a 3 game series with the Rockies.

Cardinals place Devon Snow on 10 Day IL

The Cardinals have placed catcher Devon Snow on the 10 day IL. The 24 year old suffered a groin pull in warmups prior to the Cardinals 2nd game against the Dodgers. It's expected that Snow will miss 2 weeks. Snow was hitting .255 with 5 homeruns and 12 RBI's and really started to pick up offensively when manager Mike Matheny moved him into the number 6 spot in the lineup.

Zach Jackson was recalled from Memphis to provide backup to Andrew Knizner.

The Cubs entered the final series of the year VS STL(100-59). They were 2GB of the WC against SF.

The Brewers(100-59) play the Giants to wrap up there season. So all 4 teams are fighting for a division and the 2nd wild card spot.

Cubs won game 1 8-5 vs STL and lost the next game 3-2. The Cubs were 1GB heading into the final game, and unfortunately they were not able to win, and lost 4-2. Putting an end to the Cubs season and this leads to the Cubs missing the postseason for the 2nd year in a row.

After starting 24-7 and coming out hot, the Cubs and there fans have to be extremely disappointed in the outcome of this season. (89-73) is not a bad season, but it was not enough to capture a playoff appearance and it remains to be seen what kind of moves take place in the offseason to get the Cubs another step forward.

Cubs finish the season (89-73) and miss the playoffs by 1 game.

                        Thoughts:

The Cubs made a big splash in the offseason that resulted in them signing superstar OF Juan Soto. They hoped it would push the team back to the top, and in the first month of the season it did. The months of May-July were another story, and even the months the Cubs were above .500 they always seemed to be floating along. Never really getting back into the rhythm they had early in the season.

The Cubs were top 10 in every major offensive category outside of two big ones which is OBP and AVG.

The pitching on the other hand took a big step back this year. While no starter had a horrible year, only 1 had a good year. Urias was the only starter with an ERA under a 4. The bullpen was shaky at best outside of Booker, Reese and Villar.

The pitching needs to see an improvement, but everybody is on schedule to come back next season. What can the Cubs do to get better? Notable veterans that are going to free agency is Kyle Schwarber and Whit Merrifield. Schwarber has been a life-long Cub and has manned the Catcher position for the team for a while, it will be something to look out for if 1st RD pick in 2025 Johnny Benson wants to take over.

                        Cubs look on to 2026.
                        2025 Offseason

                        Notable Losses:

                        RP Tyler Duffey
                        UTIL Whit Merrifield

                        Notable Signings:
                        Re-Signed C Kyle Schwarber 1Yr/8M
Signed SP Jacob DeGrom 1YR/15M (37YR Old)
                        Signed 2B Wilmer Flores 2YR/15M

Thoughts: What a huge FA class it was this year. Vlad Jr, Bo, Albies, Senzel, Hiura, etc. It was a loaded one with young talent, and as much as the Cubs would have liked to dip there hands into it, they could not as they are tied up on previous deals.

The Cubs did sign an aging but still effective SP in Jacob DeGrom. This likely pushed Francis Easley/Bernard Nowak out of the rotation. Both young, but the Cubs felt they needed a more consistent arm.

DeGrom has not had a below 3ERA season since 2019, but in the span of 2020-2025 he has never had more than a 3.50ERA and is looking to win a world series in what could possibly be the last year of his career. He will likely be in the #3 spot behind Berrios and Urias.

The Cubs have been losing hope on 2020 1st rd pick Alan Quick. The 2B has been very up and down, with more down’s then ups thus far. This led the Cubs to consider signing a Hiura or Bo, but they held off and signed veteran Wilmer Flores. This is a move that symbols the Cubs are still going to move forward with Quick vs RHP, but that could be a short leash for the 27yr old.

The Cubs also signed long time Cubs Kyle Schwarber to a 1 yr deal. The Cubs drafted a Catcher in the 1st rd last year, and this looks like a bridge year until then. Schwarber gets one more shot to go out on top.

The Cubs did not make a ton of moves, as this roster will look similar to last years, lets hope the Cubs moves can push them back in the playoff picture.

The division rival Brewers signed Bo Bichette, Nick Senzel, and top free agent pitcher Brendan McKay. So they will yet again be a tough matchup. Let’s see if the Cubs can turn it around in 2026.

Check out this loss I just suffered in my Red Sox franchise....swear to god it was the first time in ages that a game had me swearing and ready throw the controller or cause property damage, thank god I calmed down

TNK - Boston Red Sox Franchise
                            Game #119 of Season

Minneosta Twins (78-42) @ Boston Red Sox (74-44)
Pitching Matchup - Jose Berrios vs Eduardo Rodriguez

The Red Sox and Twins get ready for a big showdown between two of the top teams in the American League as they begin a 4 game series at Fenway Park. Eduardo Rodriguez (11-6) gets the start for Boston against Jose Berrios (10-5) for Minnesota in the opening game of the series

The Red Sox came out swinging against Berrios in the bottom of the 1st as Andrew Benintendi led off the game with a double off the wall in RF and he came in to score on a RBI single by Rafael Devers to give Boston a 1-0 lead. The Twins would get to Rodriguez for 3 runs on 6 hits in the top of the 3rd inning as Nelson Cruz, Josh Donaldson and Mitch Garver all delivered RBI singles and Minnesota would have the bases loaded with 1 out when Rodriguez would get Arraez to hit into a huge 4-6-3 double play to get out of the inning without any further damage. The Red Sox would answer in the bottom of the 3rd when Berrios hung a breaking ball to Rafael Devers who sent it over the Twins bullpen in RF for a 2-run HR and we would go to the 4th inning tied 3-3. Minnesota would take a 4-3 lead when Nelson Cruz homered to LF leading off the top of the 5th but Boston would answer in the bottom of the 5th as Devers would take Berrios deep again hitting a ball deep down the RF line that stayed fair for a 2-run HR to give the Red Sox a 5-4 lead. Xander Bogaerts was up next and hit a rocket into the green monster seats to make it back to back home runs and push the Sox lead to 6-4. Rodriguez would get through the top of the 6th and Tyler Clippard pitched a scoreless bottom half of the inning for Minnesota to send the game to the 7th inning with Boston leading 6-4. Heath Hembree pitched a scoreless top of the 7th and Clippard would retire the Red Sox in order to send the game to the 8th inning with Boston leading 6-4. Matt Barnes would record two quick outs in the top of the 8th before Buxton singled but Barnes would get Max Kepler to fly out to LF to end the top of the 8th. The Red Sox would add some big insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th when Tyler Duffey walked Martinez to start the inning and Mitch Moreland would launch a 2-run HR to CF extending the Boston lead to 8-4. The Red Sox went to Colten Brewer with a 4 run lead to start the top of the 9th and Polanco led off with a single. Brewer should have had a double play as Cruz hit a groundball to SS that Bogaerts booted to put two men on and Josh Donaldson would rip a RBI single to LF and suddenly it was a 8-5 game with two men on and nobody out as Brandon Workman made his way in from the bullpen. Eddie Rosario would single up the middle and the bases were now loaded with nobody out. Workman would get a huge strikeout of Mitch Garver for the first out and Luis Arraez would pop out and the Twins were suddenly down to their final out as Miguel Sano stepped in with 2 outs and the bases loaded. Sano would make it 8-6 with a RBI single to RF and Byron Buxton would slap a RBI single to RF to make it a one run game at 8-7 and bring up Max Kepler with the bases still loaded. Workman got ahead of Kepler before leaving a cut fastball over the plate the Kepler hammered for a grand slam to RF giving the Twins the lead 11-8. Xander Bogaerts would hit a solo HR in the bottom of the 9th for his 2nd HR of the game and the Twins would win 11-9

                            * The Red Sox suffer their worst loss of the season as the Twins score 7 runs (6 unearned) in the top of the 9th in a complete implosion by Colten Brewer and Brandon Workman and it has been 20 years since I have had a video game make me this angry as the Twins deal the Red Sox a heartbreaking 11-9 defeat

                            * The Red Sox fall to 74-45 while the Twins improve to a MLB best 79-42

                            * Eduardo Rodriguez was in line for the win before the bullpen crapped the bed as he battled through 6 inning allowing 4 runs on 12 hits with 1 walk and 6 Ks

                            * Jose Berrios got knocked around for 6 runs on 9 hits in 5 innings with 3 Ks

                            * Max Kepler was the hero for Minnesota going 2 for 6 and hitting a huge grand slam with 2 outs in the 9th inning to turn a 8-7 deficit into a 11-8 lead. Kepler is hitting .274 with 20 HR & 68 RBI

                            * Nelson Cruz went 3 for 5 with a HR & 2 RBI for Mineesota and is now hitting .285 with 33 HR & 86 RBI

                            * Rafael Devers and Xander Bogaerts had big nights for Boston as Devers went 3 for 5 with 2 HR & 5 RBI while Bogaerts went 3 for 5 with 2 HR & 2 RBI

                            * Mitch Moreland hit his team leading 35th HR for Boston

                            * The Red Sox will look to turn the page after this debacle tomorrow as Collin McHugh takes the mound for Boston against Jake Odorizzi for Minnesota

TNK - Boston Red Sox Franchise
                              Game #120 of Season

Minnesota Twins (79-42) @ Boston Red Sox (74-45)
Pitching Matchup - Jake Odorizzi vs Collin McHugh

The Red Sox grabbed 1-0 lead in the 1st inning when Benintendi doubled to lead off the inning and came in to score on a RBI ground out by Bogaerts. The score remained 1-0 until the top of the 3rdd when the Twins bats came alive and they would push across 3 runs as Max Kepler tied it up 1-1 with a RBI double and Luis Arraez drove in two more runs with a RBI double down the RF line to give Minnesota a 3-1 lead. Jake Odorizzi recorded two quick outs to start the bottom of the 4th before Chavis singled and Alex Verdugo would launch a 2-run HR that hugged the RF line and stayed fair tying the game as we would move to the 5th inning all even at 3-3. The Twins had two men on with 2 outs in the top of the 6th and McHugh stayed in the game one batter too long as Josh Donaldson doubled in the gap to give the Twins a 4-3 lead. Ryan Brasier came in from the pen and got a huge strikeout to get out of the jam stranding runners on 2nd & 3rd. The Red Sox would answer in the bottom of the 6th as JD Martinez led off with a walk and would eventually come in to score on a RBI sac fly to RF by Verdugo and we would go to the 7th inning tied 4-4. Brasier would get through the top of the 7th and Zack Littell would get through the bottom of the 7th to send the game to the 8th inning tied 4-4. Brasier and Josh Taylor would combine to pitch a 1-2-3 top of the 8th and Cody Stashak would pitch a scoreless bottom of the 8th as the game woudl move to the 9th inning tied at 4-4. Josh Taylor would retire the Twins in order in the top of the 9th and the Red Sox would come to bat in the bottom of the 9th with a chance to win the game. Jonathon Lucroy blooped a single into CF to lead off the bottom of the 9th and Kevin Pillar would come on to pinch run for Lucroy. Jackie Bradley would lay down a sac bunt and wind up beating the throw as Boston had two men on with nobody out. Andrew Benintendi would hit a chopper back to the mound and Stashak would get the out at second base as Benintendi beat out the double play setting up runners at the corners with 1 out and Rafael Devers stepping in to the box with a chance to be the hero. The count was 2 & 2 and Stashak threw a changeup low in the zone but Devers would stay back on it and drive it high and deep to RF and the ball would carry over the wall for a 3-run walk off HR to give the Red Sox a thrilling 7-4 victory

                              * The Red Sox and Twins were tied 4-4 in the bottom of the 9th when Boston put runners on the corners with 1 out and Rafael Devers would hit a walk off 3-run HR to RF as the Red Sox bounce back after yesterdays terrible loss and win a thriller 7-4

                              * The Red Sox improve to 74-45 while the Twins drop to 79-43

                              * Jake Odorizzi pitched 5.1 innings allowing 4 runs on 6 hits with 2 walks and 5 Ks for Minnesota

                              * Rafael Devers was the hero for Boston hitting a walk off 3-run HR in the bottom of the 9th. Devers is having a heck of a series through the first two games going 4 for 10 with 3 HR & 8 RBI. Devers is now hitting .270 with 19 HR & 68 RBI on the season

                              * Alex Verdugo went 1 for 3 with a HR & 3 RBI and is now hitting .263 with 5 HR & 33 RBI

                              * Minnesota was led by Luis Arraez who went 2 for 4 with a double & 2 RBI and Josh Donaldson who was 2 for 3 with a double & 2 RBI

                              * The Red Sox bullpen rebounded after yesterdays implosion as Ryan Brasier and Josh Taylor pitched 3.1 shutout innings and allowed just one hit

                              * The Red Sox and Twins have split the first two games of this 4 game series and will be back in action tomorrow as Martin Perez gets the start for Boston against Kenta Maeda for Minnesota
