    Getting more Walks

Played my first game last night on dynamic all star. Played a 12 inning game as the twins vs the A's. I only drew 1 walk in 12 innings which is my fault. I should have had like 3 or 4. Last year I would finish towards the bottom of the league in walks drawn, but I was still not dead last and it was a somewhat realistic number.

My problem is I cant throw walks. I also only gave up 1 walk in 12 innings last night. Last year in my franchise I would lead the league in least walks allowed by a WIDE margin. My pitchers would all be super good in WHIP even though I gave up a lot of hits. Any of you guys have a setting or slider set that makes you walk the cpu a realistic amount?

If you have not tried classic pitching, that’s the first adjustment I would make.

You will definitely walk more than your share. With classic pitching, you can try to aim for a certain location that’s clearly out of the strike zone, but numerous factors may push the ball right down the middle and conversely

The other thing to make sure of is that the levels you’re playing on will punish you. You will be much more likely to aim a pitch way, way out of the strike zone if you get punished when that pitch floats over the plate

I only have used meter pitching. How does classic work?

You pick the pitch type, you move the ball to the location that you WANT the pitch to go, and you press the button to pitch.

Pitcher ratings matter 100% with classic pitching. So you really have to try for the corners and mix up your pitching patterns, especially with bad rated pitchers.

That sounds interesting. I like the idea of the ratings really mattering. That being said, are you still able to have good starts with like a 65-75 overall pitcher? Im fine with a bad pitcher getting shelled, but I also want them to be able to mix in some quality starts.

Yeah you can, it's not easy and sometimes the matchup might make it difficult, but you can. You really have to learn how to mix it up and also know that sometimes you're gonna get rocked. But that's baseball.

You also should consider having a fresh bullpen ready to go. I figure if I can get 5 good innings from a crap pitcher, I'm going to the pen asap because that dude is on borrowed time ......

I agree with classic pitching. Even though I still usually lead the league in fewest walks issued. They key is to not be afraid to walk batters. Try to hit those corner pitches even on 3-2, especially with dangerous hitters. I do everything I can to stay away from the heart of the plate. I'd rather miss two feet outside that float one right down the middle.

At default so far classic is feeling really good with variability. I was a little concerned because in the Beta it was too accurate. You can tell they tweaked it a bit.

"House Rules" on your part can increase this as well. For example i think I was walking enough batters last year and implemented a house rule where I would not throw fastballs on full counts and that def upped my walks.

I use meter instead of classic but I turn the vibration off and the strike zone and hot zones too, as do lotsa people. I keep the ball marker on instead of off or fade though. if I kept the marker off I'd probably walk about 6 per 9. all of that helps me to walk at least 3 of the opposition per 9.

As long as I can draw a couple walks a game I'm fine with that. I could get my walks up to 3 a game if I were really interested in being patient at the plate but I rather much enjoy being a free swinger, heavily influenced by the ''me decade'' of the 70's and whatnot lol

I'm loving Pulse pitching I've been a user of that primarily since its integration into the game. It gives me the classic feel while still allowing impact from user control like the meter.

I also have pitching on dynamic difficulty for a while so it figures out my approximate pitching difficulty level.
