And as I have said in every post I have made recently, because it's monumentally important and I did not know it for the past five years playing Directional ...

YOU MUST PLACE THE STICK WHILE THE PITCHER IS IN HIS WINDUP AND HOLD THE STICK IN PLACE THROUGHOUT YOUR SWING.

It's not a flick. It's not PCI hitting. It's not "oh, fastball away, move stick to ball."

    It's not that at all.

That I knew I always held it thru out the whole swing. I guess I just have to figure when to aim and when not to aim that’s just the hard part for me. Thx everyone for helping.

        Cool.

Except it is still not “aiming,” and if you think of it as that, you will not truly understand how it works.

I think what he’s trying to say is it’s not “aiming” it’s more of “looking for a certain pitch and executing”

If I’m in a 2-0, 2-1, 3-0, 3-1 count and have a pull hitter at the plate I’m holding my left analog stick towards my hitter before the pitcher is even in his windup and not letting go. While I’m doing that I look for a pitch middle in.

If it’s not where I want I let the pitch go, even if it’s a strike I let it go if it’s not exactly where I want.

That’s just one situation though. There’s tons of situations. You just have to pick what tactic you’re going to use. If I’m in a 0-0 count I’m usually using no influence. 0-2 I try to “slap” the ball if I’m NOT hitting with a major pull guy (Franmil Reyes) because it’s easier to make contact since the barrel of that bat stays in the zone a bit longer opposed when you try and pull the ball you’ll have a higher chance of swing and miss.

You should check out TheWarmWinds directional hitting guide too. He has good stuff in there.

This is excellent advice. I am learning about being super patient and how it is ok to take pitches. It is hard , but I am comitted to learning.

Usually when I’m in a “user” slump its because I’m being impatient and swinging at stupid pitches. When you get into a hitters count it’s much easier to hit obviously.

The hardest thing for me when I’m in a slump is to remind myself to keep being patient. It’s easy to just start hacking because you want a hit so bad.

I'll put it another way to drive the point across:

You HAVE to be willing to get called out on strikes. If you absolutely refuse to ever take a third strike, you are probably swinging at sub-optimal pitches a lot of the time.

Make the pitcher come to you, whenever possible!

Kind of off topic a bit here, but I use Direction and even Analog mostly online and offline. Did directional get nerfed a bit by chance online? Feels like I don’t see the pop I usually do, same with analog. Or am I just crazy? LOL

i have read this whole threat a few times now, i do have a few questions about this and comments. 1 i try to use the zone hitting and im not good at it at all. i have been buying mlb the show for many many yrs. i have personally never really played the game itself, i but it for franchise mode. this yr with no real mlb i got into playing online or DD for my real mlb fix. my record is 107-114 as i write this post. i have gone back and forth from zone and directional. does this directional post pertain to online or is it just vs CPU? i can sort of rake in conquest and MTO on all star level and HOF with directional but cant hit the cpu for my life with zone. when i play RS i cant hit the broad side of a barn with directional and only can hit decent with zone but only when i place the pci where i think the ball is going to be pitched. i also wont deny i swing at a lot of pitches i shouldnt be swinging at but literally if u put the pci to the floor with zone u can hit a pitch that is at your feet and thats where i tend to hit bombs, its unrealistic but whatver. i switched to directional in RS and i tend to take better pitches but i just cant hit anything just inside or outside, pitches that are in the strike zone im fine hitting with directional but with zone i can seem to only hit bad pitches. i just signed up for this forum because of this thread like 2days ago. in RS after 220gms my BA is 217 OBP is 243 and SLG is 480. i feel im a pretty good pitcher with meter, i wont start with that but my ERA is 3-04 and WHIP is 1.00. i dont understand the analog of pitching part what so ever and thats a different thread so i wont get into that.

I get caught looking a ton and hate it but it's a necessary evil. I wish I could argue balls and strikes because every time I let a 3rd strike go by, I swear it was a ball.

The worst is how sometimes the ump really does make a completely awful call if its set to “personalized” lol. I’m in my house like YOURE TRASH BLUE. YOURE TRASH.

i use zone and i can rake normally on allstar and legend but not hof when im in my franchise but when i am online playing against other people i become way to impatient because i feel like he other player wont throw strikes like the computer would and with zone its hard to keep track of the ball sometimes with the PCI... would it be better to use Directional when im online against other players and just try and hit the pitch where it is instead of using zone??

For me, I can tell when my team is in a hitting slump because I get good pitches and they dont make good contact, for a long stretch. And then to compound it, I start getting impatient. I really have to force myself to just not swing for awhile and try to work the count. But I'm my own worst enemy during slumps.
