Rockwell's Fountain of Youth
Sports Illustrated - May 14th - Woody Rockwell was rock solid as he picked up his first win of the season. In his second start of the season an inter-league match-up against the White Sox Rockwell performed well above anyone's expectations including his own. Not only was his performance on the mound solid allowing one hit, one run and 3 strikeouts in 5.1 innings. Rockwell also contributed at the plate drawing a walk, were he moved on two second following another walk then scored on a single from second base. His next time up to bat he picked up a hit.
"A few week backs I told you media guys (that) I wanted to prove that signing me was a good move. I just want to continue performing at a high level for the remainder of the season and help the team win." - Woody Rockwell
At 42 many athletes are calling it quits on their careers. That's something Padres pitcher Woody Rockwell was contemplating prior to being signed in mid-April. Rockwell got back up to speed with San Diego's Triple-A team. In 2 starts with the El Paso Chihuahuas Rockwell went 1-1 posted an 1.3 era, recorded 10 strike outs through 10 innings.
In his two starts for the Padres the veteran pitcher has picked up a win and a no decision with a line of 7 strikeouts, 7 hits and a 1.59 ERA in 11.1 innings of work.
==================================
I've never been more surprised with someone scoring than when Rockwell scored from second on a single! His speed is ZERO! ZERO SPEED! and he made it from second. I've had guys with 84 speed get thrown out trying to get them to do that.

Re: MLB The Show 20: Fictional Franchise Progress Thread
Am I the only one that spends more time than they probably should trying to find trade deals or when you find one you like hesitates because then you wonder if this is actual the right deal. Do I dump this salary and pick up these young guys that will never see the show or do I take on this struggling veteran with in his final year who might turn out to be worse than who I'm getting rid of!? Ahhhhhh!

Re: MLB The Show 20: Fictional Franchise Progress Thread
Early June with my Ottawa Mounties in my rebranded franchise.
The AL West is a tight three team race with me in first by half a game over the Toronto Huskies and 2.5 games ahead of the Madison Moose. It should be a good race down to the end, although I think my team is the best so unless I screw it up with my poor skills I think it's my division to lose.
Also cool is my team currently has the top three hitters in the league (via average), with leadoff spark plug Homer Webster leading the way at around .370, with Clinton Lake (.345) and Rondell McKnight (.335) also contributing.
My team as a whole is leading the league hitting .296 ... Which isn't because I play too easy of a difficulty .. in fact, I do a fair bit of simming .. both complete games and "quick managing" through innings . So I've probably only actually played around 30 to 40 per cent of my players ABs.
I really just think I did a good job drafting a great lineup. In addition to the above, my lineup also includes Junior Gonzalez, King Hitter, DJ Fader and Brett Hale, all of whom are contributing well.
Vince Cartwright, Tony Taylor and Woody Rockwell have given me a solid rotation. The bullpen is the biggest issue I may try to address going forward.
Having a blast.Last edited by ripwalk; 04-10-2020, 08:41 AM.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 20: Fictional Franchise Progress Thread
First thing I did yesterday after buying the game was download Bacon's roster set.
I began an Oakland fantasy draft franchise to test the waters a little bit. I needed to scratch the itch before doing a rebrand series. A's got the 18th pick and I decided to sim it all. The team dynamic is crazy. The sim decided to resurrect the bash brothers, and added a long lost brother. Clinton Lake (93), Clayton Andrews (93), and Colt Snow (91) hold the heart of the order, while Jorge Veras (89) holds the lead off spot. Angelo Love (88) was grabbed as the closer, being setup by Cristobal Leon (83), and then 2 starters, Corban McCarthy and Jack Withenshaw (both 81). After this, my offense kind of falls apart. After the initial 4 fielders were chosen, the next 3 were backups. Of these three, I kept Andrew Norris and Teddy Jefferson (17m on the bench!), and flipped Veras's backup for Rico Infante to hold on to 2B. The rest of the lineup seems to be low 70 prospects forced into starting roles.
I think I'm gonna keep this franchise as my sim game and see how this team holds up. I see the potential for a high powered offense with lackluster starting pitching. If we can get early leads and get some of our big relievers into the game to chew up innings, we may be a middling playoff team. I doubt it though, I feel like we are missing too many pieces.
Edit: Also wanted to add my experience after my first game. Opened with Veras getting a ground rule double. Lake pushed him over to third. And then I tried to steal home. Don't ask me why, I didn't mean to. Grounded into a double to follow that. And then I found out what a beast Fukanori Kodeyashi. He took me deep...twice. Down 3 nothing in 3 innings. I came back to tie it 3-3. They brought in an absolute flamethrower that I could not hit. This was spring training still, but I figured he was a high rated relief pitcher based on what he was throwing. Mid 90's sinker, high 80's knuckle curve and slurve, and finishing off with a 101 4 seam. I couldn't hit him, but took a few walks once I think I figured him out. He had some crazy movement. Looking at his card after the game, 64 overall, D potential, 99 velocity, 75 break, 40 control, 14 bb/9. Eduardo Gesualdo. Hope he doesn't flame out of the league.
Anyways, I ended up leaving a slider over the plate that their pinch hitter took yard (Chase Switzer) and lost. Epic first game with the roster set. Still can't get over that flamethrower.Last edited by Rollo; 04-10-2020, 12:47 PM.Comment

Another Padres Coaching Staff Change
MLBn - May 22nd: The Padres make yet another change to the coaching staff as they fire pitching coach Alex Ares. The 65 yr. old Ares had 2 years remaining on his contract. As we head into the warmer months San Diego decided to cut ties with Ares. Bats will be heating up and the Padres pitching staff are cooling off. Outside of starters few members of the pitching staff there are significant struggles among the pitchers. With the best example being the ongoing struggles of Shane Lindemann (0-6, 7.74 ERA)
Ares will be replaced with Enrique Shell. Like the hiring of the new hitting coach (Nigel Byrne), Shell's contract will run through to the end of the season. With the addition of Shell the Padres hope they can curtail the number of homeruns they are giving up and get the pitch control issues under control (pun intended)
"We think Enrique will be a fantastic addition to our staff, at the same time we are in a transitional period so the length of his contract along with the rest of the coaching staff will be evaluated in the off season." - General Manager
The Padres are 24-26 currently sit 3rd in the NL West and 7.5 GB.

I’m using Bacon’s roster in a fictional draft franchise. Thinking about enforcing a salary cap. Anyone tried using a salary cap with budgets off?

just hit for the cycle with Bryce Lewis, which was surprising to me because he has under 50 power against righties and he hit an absolute bomb in his last at bat to complete the cycleComment

Even tho I have a strong dislike for him in my fantasy O's chise (he plays for the Evil Empire and I opened against them)...cycles are awesome. Props for that dude.

Re: MLB The Show 20: Fictional Franchise Progress Thread
San Diego Padres(8-13) @ Chicago Cubs (17-5)
The Cubs keep rolling!
Game 1: SD-Kyle Johnson(0-1) vs CHC-Casey Lockheart(2-2)
Willie Gonzalez got things started in the 1st for the Cubs with a triple(1). Brandon Bowers would open the scoring with a sac fly rbi(29). The Friars would tie it up in the 2nd with a Bruce Green HR(7). But the tie didn't last long, in the bottom of the 2nd Logan Wagner gave the Cubs the lead again with a solo HR(2). That would do it for scoring in this pitchers duel. Cubs win 2-1.
WP-Casey Lockheart (3-2) 3.94
LP-Kyle Johnson (0-2) 5.68
SV- Mario Oquendo (8) 1.80
Game 2: SD-Joel O'Malley(0-2) vs CHC-Kirby Pace(2-0)
The Padres jumped out to an early 2-1 lead, then in the 6th the Cubs would take the lead back on solo HR's from Dario Suarez(3) & Benji Perez(3). Top of the 7th, Justin Upchurch in relief for the Cubs promptly gives the lead back to San Diego with a Dallas Phillips 2 run HR(5). Padres up 4-3 going into the bottom of the 7th and the Cubs bats would answer again. Brandon Bowers would tie it with an RBI(30) double. A sac fly from Oscar Rodriguez gives the Cubs back the lead. Dario Suarez would belt his 2nd HR(4) of the game, a 2 run shot to give the Cubs a 7-4 lead. Mario Oquendo in for the save gives up a 9th inning bomb to Will Sweet(1) but that was it. Cubs win 7-5
WP-Justin Upchurch(2-0) 5.90
LP- Philip Hester(0-1) 6.62
SV- Mario Oquendo(9) 2.45
Game 3: SD-Shane Lindemann(1-1) vs CHC-Tyler Reynolds(4-0)
Cubs going for the sweep! Shane Lindemann was shaky out of the gate giving up 3 1st inning walks! Jack North(9) & Dario Suarez(10) would get rbi singles, and the Cubs blew a chance at a huge inning! Bottom of the 2nd, a shaky Lindemann on the mound and the Cubs finally get him, Logan Wagner hit a solo HR(3) RBI(11) and Brandon Bowers belted a 2 run HR(9) RBI(32) to give the Cubbies a 5-0 lead and give Lindemann an early shower! Top of the 4th, Padres get on the board with a Dallas Phillips HR(6). Friars keep chipping away with a Dylan Netzel 2 run HR(5) in the 6th, and a Bruce Green HR(8) in the 7th. Mario Oquendo would come in and shut them down in the 9th and the Cubs would sweep the series! Cubs win 5-4

So you've encountered the mighty Padres pitching staff! LOL
Good to know those guys are apparently just terrible and it's not just me. Lindemann is lucky to make it to the 5th anytime he starts and O'Malley is even trash in the minors so they are both on the trading block."Listen son, you only have enough runs when you’re showering after a win."Comment

They do have some nice hitters. Bruce Green, Dallas Phillips and Dylan Netzel all had a pretty good series against me. My pen is up and down. Starters are doing well but my ace Edwin Rodriguez who had a 1.75 era going in against the Phillies in my latest game got hammered! Not making any major moves except if a major injury pops up, but I do have some guys I wanna move in the offseason, mostly to solidify my bench and pen. I am having a blast with these rosters!Playstation Network:That70s_Gamer

Re: MLB The Show 20: Fictional Franchise Progress Thread
I'm up to April 6th on my full 30 team rebrand. I'm only playing as one team, the Las Vegas Blackjacks. Record is currently 5-4.
Roster consists of tons of names I've seen y'all mention before like first sacker Rex West and shortstop Jorge Veras but also a few of my other favorites like closer Dan Washington and middle infielder Cameron Littlefield.
It's very early but so far I'm very happy with the progress to this point.

Took a day off yesterday to refresh from my A's. Been playin more them than my fantasy drafted O's lol. Think I'm chillin right round where you are. 5-5 as I rolled into Minny and took game 1 of my opening road series. Minnesota (in 5 games) has been a thorn in my side. No easy outs.
Meanwhile the A's Catcher Bobby (???) Fat@$$ lol...1 hit so far. For a HR [emoji23]. Couple of walks, but batting sub .100. Could be me just swingin wildly when he comes up, or could be him for sucking.
Michael Mayfield DH, tho is the DUDE.
