Re: MLB The Show 20: Fictional Franchise Progress Thread

Guys, it's been a disaster of a season so far.
As I said earlier, our batting order is great :

    1. Lockett
    2. Pain
    3. West
    4. Clark
    5. Painter
    6. Stephenson
    7. Slade
    8. Phillips

And even our pitching rotation seemed great :

    1. Dougherty
    2. Rivas
    3. Martinez
    4. Journell
    5. McClain

Well, after 71 games, the team is sitting at 35-36, good for 4th in the division. Rockies (champions last year) are at a whooping 50-23. This is unacceptable right now.

As jrnlgrn said, there are some players that I'm getting tired off (Byron Phillips is one of them) and others that can do no wrong (West, Stephenson). By the way, I absolutely LOVE Bobby Lockett, he looks cool, he's a switch hitter, and he has ATTITUDE.

Anyway, we better get our **** together now. With the salary I give to these guys, they need to perform better. If I don't make the playoffs, I don't think I'll trade one of my top 3 guys, some minor trades maybe... But if we can't reach at least the NLCS the year after, then I may be looking to trade some of the big guys and ride with some of the younger guys (Sasaki, Humphries...).

This is the most fun I'm having with the game since forever.

My closer Train Lucas was on my "do no wrong" list but has now blown 4 straight saves. He's definitely off the track. He has all his options so for someone who was in the top 5 saves could be making his way down to triple-a until after the all-star break. If he's going to be this bad I might as well give a random pitcher from minor league club a shot.

Meanwhile over at third Willy Benavides who has been struggling 95% of the time. 4 of his 6 homeruns have come in the 8th inning or later to win us the game and he has also had 2 game winning singles. So at least he's clutch. Would have been 5 out of 6 game winning homers but you know Train blew it. So if you need a clutch hit pick up Benavides.

I created the Expos to replace the Rays, with Bacon's 2020 roster.
Would have done more if there was team sharing or fictional stadiums.

Did a fantasy draft hoping to have the league more balanced out budget wise compared to real life and it seems better.
About 1/3 of the way in and having a blast so far.
I like fictional because of the feeling of making the league my own especially if playing multiple seasons.
I also like that I don't look at the standings or the stats leaders and think it looks wrong. No need to worry that Trout is hitting .198 or Kershaw has a 5.50 era.
The big one is the Astros, I like their old 80's unis but don't want to have their * team in my game.

With other sports games to try to play franchise with as well, don't have time to play every game if I want to play multiple seasons so I have a system of simming taking control when someone gets on base and then from the 6th inning playing it out unless +/- 3 runs. Works really well except if the sim results in a hr. I'm the one that either drives in the run or gets the double play etc and feels like I can impact the result the most this way.
Sometimes I will play the start of the game until I get a hit or give up a hit. Or maybe sim the first two games of a series with critical situations on. As I get later in the season I plan to sim less and play more especially if in the playoff picture.

Currently have Painter under control with the A's. I wouldn't part with him either [emoji23]. Ok no one but Michael Mayfield is untouchable in the long run (and hes only DH-worthy) lol.

Painter is nice in the 4 spot tho right behind Mayfield. Kinda think of em as a reincarnation of Bash Bros lol

Love the rosters and having my own little universe. Played several games trying to nail down a team to use. I decided on the Mariners for a few reasons mainly they are a AL team and I have always played in the NL central. And they are fun to play with and have great uniforms. Any one else using them?

                Padres Hit by Multiple Injuries

MLB.com - June 22nd | It's been a rough week for the Padres. After being called up Joel O'Malley left with leg pain after only 3 innings, the following game pitcher Kole Robertson also left after only 3 innings with a minor hamstring injury after taking his turn at the plate. On the 20th left-fielder D.J. Fader broke his hand sliding into 2nd base and is expected out 1-2 months. The following day pitcher Kyle Johnson left the game at te start of the 2nd inning with a broken arm and is not expected to return until August.

Luckily Robertson and O'Malley's injuries had them only out for a couple of days. The Padres caught a break (no pun intended) with the recent acquisition of Carter Dawkins (.259 BA, 24 RBI, 16 SB) who can step in to replace Fader. Outfielder Preston Steiner (MiLB - .182, 7 HR, 27 RBI) was called up to backup Dawkins. Where the Padres might run into trouble is with replacing Kyle Johnson. For now the Padres have called up 23 yr. old Michael Money (MiLB - 2.52 ERA, 94 SO, 7-2 record) to replace Johnson.

With Money not expected to start for at least a week the Padres are looking at other options to avoid disrupting the young arms progress.

OPTION A) MONEY MAKER - The Padres could just go with Michael Money. Sometimes you just have to go out and pitch whether your ready or not. For all anyone knows Money could make a solid addition to the rotation. It might not be the way the Padres wanted make his MLB Debut but that's the nature of the game.

Option B) PUT STARKS IN THE ROTATION - Alexzander Starks (9-1, 2 SV, 67 SO, 1.46 ERA, 55.2 IP) a starting pitcher in previous years has been serving as the teams LRP and is on the verge of making it to his first all-star game. This would seem like the most logical choice to slot in but his lack of pitch control doesn't endear him to long outings and is probably better served in his current role where he's thriving.

Option C) OUTSIDE HELP - San Diego could look to make a trade. While they would be reluctant to get rid of any of the MLB players on the roster they could use of some of the young talent in their farm system. The Padres could try and work out a trade for Twins pitcher Alex Vernon (3-2, 60 SO, 5.52 in 12 starts) Vernon was recently optioned to their minor league club and could possibly be acquired for a bargain price.

So with San Diego hovering around the .500 mark they have a big decision to make. A team that's struggling to find it's identity, injuries are the last thing they need or expected. Whatever decision they make this could be the difference between a winning or losing season and people keeping their jobs.

Up Next, our Ken Rosenthal sat down with Cubs GM Cal Varnson and discussed a number of topics. Ken.... Thanks Greg. Well so far the Chicago Cubs have come out of the gates on fire. Not only do they have the best record in the Majors, they also had two players get April of the Month awards. The Closer, "Super" Mario Oquendo and First baseman Brandon Bowers, who leads the league in both home runs and RBI.

If you remember, Oquendo was a piece that was discussed in Spring training when the Cubs and White Sox were talking trade involving 2B Bobby Lockett. The Cubs felt the price was too high and ended negotiations. When I asked Varnson he said " We knew Mario was our closer and was going nowhere, when the Sox insisted he be in the deal, we pulled the plug and you can see why we didn't want to trade him away".

The Cubs closed out April taking 2 of 3 from the Pirates and were headed out for a 7 game road trip to Arizona and the suddenly red hot Dodgers.

The Cubs split the 4 game series in Arizona, fatigue played a big part as the bench was not pulling their weight when asked to start. The first game in L.A went 16 innings and the Cubs were able to pull out the win on a Dario Suarez home run(7). The bad news is that Mario Oquendo has been placed on the 15 day IL with a sprained elbow. Carlos De La Torre will take over the closers role. The Cubs have 2 left with the Dodgers, that will close out a stretch of 16 days in a row without a break.

Afterwards the Cubs made a minor trade sending AAA Relief pitcher D.J Grissom to the Angels for 1B Marcos Daniels. Varnson on the deal said, " We needed a left handed bat off the bench and to also give Bowers a day off against some right handed pitching, he's played almost every game so far. I know we just signed "Q" (Derek Quisenberry) and he is doing a great job, but him being a righty as well wasn't giving us much flexibility. Daniels can also play both corner spots in the outfield which we saw as a plus."

Greg, when I asked Varnson about extending Cubs Manager Brandon Palmer who is in the last year of his deal he said " Brandon is doing a terrific job so far for us. The players love playing for him and we would like to get something done but we will wait till the end of the season and see how things shake out."

Greg, looks likes it's going to be an interesting summer on the North side. Back to you...

Re: MLB The Show 20: Fictional Franchise Progress Thread

                    My A’s are stacked.

After making playoffs in 2020,2021,2022 we finally win it all in 2023.

The team is ranked #1. I’ve made some trades with the CPU to add to Mayfield, Painter, Irvin for an upcoming dynasty.

I play 1 game a series with player lock and sim the rest, but I play out the playoffs. I was 11-0 in the playoffs playing all-star in round 1 (too easy) and then upping to HOF for the ALCS and WS

The trade logic allows you to trade prospects for stars. May have to change it up. I only control one team. 7 of my 8 position starters are ranked 88 or higher.

                    Fun rosters.

Honestly while I think everyone has their player preferences what's makes bacons roster or any fictional roster is the unknown. Pick aomeone because they have a cool name, appearance or amazing stats.

You really can't go wrong I mean you can but after you get into the season you'll get attached to players. Certain players you thought would be stars will disappoint and some players will come out of nowhere and you couldn't Invision not having them in the team. Just set you team up and just enjoy the ride.

Here's what's going to happen....you're going to draft a bunch of guys. When you draft the guys, you'll pick them for whatever reason and think they will be your favs.

Then...you'll start diving into your chise and fall in love with a completely different set of players....

                            Must have:
1B Derrick Shaw - Marlins (Triple Crown threat)
                            Gem:
Freddy Ordonez - Red Sox (great lefty bat, plays 3B, 1B, and C)

I like switch hitters as I tend to be much better in lefty/right situations than same side.

So a couple switch hitters I enjoy on my team are foremost Clinton Lake. Five tool player and good defence in CF.

And Junior Gonzalez , not a tremendous hitter, more a contact guy, but gets on base at a decent clip and plays solid SS.

Finally started my franchise with these rosters after breaking the mental blockade I had with the existing stats.

Rebranded the whole league and did a fantasy draft. I had to go with Josh Reed as my too pick. I seem to have a man crush on this guy. [emoji38] love his pitching stance and devastating curveball. Clinton Lake is another favorite of mine, and I’m not even a Sox fan! This will be a lot fun! Thanks for this great roster.
