Just had an outfield error with Hunter Renfroe. Easy fly ball that dropped out of his glove ruled an error. Well it's been a while since I had an outfield error.

I haven't had too many outfield issues but I did have a couple animations kill my game. 1st one was a dropped 3rd strike that fell at the catchers feet. He stood up, faced the 3rd base dugout, paused for a second, then tapped the ball into his glove a couple times before he finally threw the ball. The runner was safe by a mile. There were 2 outs in the inning and this would have ended it. They went on to score 5 runs on 5 straight doubles with one of those being a dropped ball (in an animation) by the RF player. This was all in the 1st inning with King Felix pitching against the Mets in NY.

Re: Fielding flyballs should not be this hard

Fielding for me has been tightened up considerably since the last couple patches. Outfield play was horrible and now I am happy with it. I seem to get far to few opportunities to dive this year.

I also hate that control will be given to a player and when switching to a different one will impact the opportunity to make a play.

Had a couple plays stick out recently, first one was a pop out behind 2nd and 1st. My second was in place to make a play and no animation was triggered it fell and the RF had to clean up. Second it was a base hit to LF, he fields the ball but didn't want to throw the ball and the runner advanced from 1st to 2nd on a no throw.

I had two back to back games with two awkward outfield errors. First game Charlie Blackman wiffed at it and waled his arms then the next game Sam Hilliard was running down a fly ball and it hit his glove and was charged with an error.

Seems like they tightened it up by just making it do more automatic animations, taking control away from you and making weird stuff happen. Now it's pretty common to see my outfielders go into the "run around the ball to get in a good position to throw it" animation, when there is no one on base. Doesn't hurt you as they do still make the catch, but it looks weird as hell.

The more costly one is on balls hit to the wall, where they now sometimes just refuse to go and catch it and instead get locked into an animation where they stop well short of the wall and prepare to play it perfectly off the wall, when in reality they could easily catch it if they juts carry on running to the wall, as it eventually hits about halfway up.

It's clear that they can't actually fix the underlying issues so have just fudged it a bit, but at least the fudge is less terrible than the original. Needs properly fixing for next year though

I've been able to make catches up against the wall the same as in years past. The only time I get locked into the "play the ball off the wall animation" is if I let up on the L-stick, slow down, and then it triggers. Other than that, my fielder will continue to run to the wall and into the wall unless I stop him.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Not sure what's changed, but I'm not getting hit with an error on the scorecard anymore for these awful plays. Easy fly balls are still dropping because I get locked into the "error" animation, and now my infielders are starting to boot more ground balls than they were before, but it's not getting scored as an error anymore. Everything is scored a base hit even when my fielders very easily could have gotten the out.

I can't believe I went almost a month without committing an outfield error and just today the ball comes out of Michael Conforto's glove.
