    Stealing and Bunts

Absolutely loving this game. My only frustration are bad jumps on stealing with good stealing players. I'm seeing maybe 1/10 steals working because they get bad jumps every time. Also rocket bunts. Is it the game or am I doing something wrong?

    Re: Stealing and Bunts

I am experiencing it all Success and failure with both. I am running my franchise carry over with the Braves from the Show 19'. I had a 3 for 3 steal success with Inciarte vs. the Mets SP Vargas. I also been thrown out with Acuna trying to steal a few times. I am finding out it's all about the releasing of the L2 during the pitcher's motion towards the plate.

As far as bunt's are concern: timing and having success when a pitcher is throwing a high fastball. I have had success with the drag bunt using Albies & Inciarte. Pithers sac bunts have worked for me though. I have only played eight games.

I'm having the exact same problem with stealing. I've tried every strategy I can think of. I've pre-loaded, I've tried manual, I've gone first pitch, I've gone in braking ball counts, I've taken an extra step, I've kept the standard lead, I've tapped L1 when the pitchers motion starts... none of it has mattered.

There's at least a half second delay on manual stalling for me, and on pre-loaded attempts the runner rarely gets more than a step on his jump before the pitch is delivered.

My guys steal ratings aren't great, but they're not atrocious. I had a guy with 94 speed, 65 steal and was thrown out every time with him. This is with the stall ability slider at 10, too.

I've given up on stealing at this point, which sucks.

I have not been successful on any steal attempts this year either. I really only have a couple "base stealing threats," but like has been stated I get tossed 100% of the time.

After I press L2, I hold down L1 when I want to steal. So far, I'm 3-for-3 including a steal of third. Not a huge sample size obviously, so I may have just gotten lucky. But that strategy seems to work better than the others, at least for me.

The thing is you seem to be only looking at your attributes. To be fair, without some decent data this is purely anecdotal. For instance:
who were you trying to run on? Arm strength/acc
what pitches were delivered and where?
did the runner have a lead?
manual steal or auto steal and on what occasions did they correspond with the above?

...These are just some basic things to think about and start recording for a truer picture.

I've not have any undue issues stealing bases with guys that do it for real. With Villar I'm 9/9, and 6/7 with Berti so far.
I'm by no means a 'gamer' or anything like that but I find if you play the game right and stick to what you would do in real life and have the guys play how they would on the field and under the same conditions, you'll start to have more success.
            Good luck.

I don't think stealing broken. Do all my stealing attempts succeed? Of course not. Yes occasionally the base runner does get a bad jump which yes does result in an out. But I am also seeing plenty of successful attempts. With that said, bunts are broken and it's all because SDS wanted to cut down on bunt cheese inside of their beloved DD game mode. In other words, they have broken bunting for offline game play to cater to the DD peeps. The only players I will consider bunting with are pitchers with reasonably good bunting skills and even their bunt attempts fail more than they succeed. Yes bunting is broken.

Same here. I've got guys like Acuna who are high in steal attributes getting horrible jumps 80% of the time. I've even tried cranking the slider success rate all the way and it's making no difference. I've played well over 200 games and nothing has changed. It seems like they are waiting till the pitcher delivers the ball completely before they even take off almost every time. I'm good getting thrown out every now and again, but not at the rate i'm seeing and the players i'm seeing getting bad jumps. I think something is definitely off.

I mentioned in my post that I've varied all of those things you talk about in your questions and it hasn't made a difference.

I haven't tracked data officially, maybe I will at some point. But I'm not stealing willy nilly. I know how to steal situationally, within the construct of a game. None of that has made a difference. I've had issues with stealing the last few years in the game. The pre-loaded jumps are terrible and there's a delay with manual stealing where the runner doesn't take off for about a half a second after I release L2

I know you mentioned it but it's anecdotal as like you say, you haven't tracked it. While what you say of course may (will) have some truth to you, it's hard to quantify it other then essentially saying, 'I'm having trouble stealing, I cant do it with average guys, there's something wrong with the game'.

Out of interest, who have you been stealing with? And in what mode(s). I'm referring to strictly offline franchise and play now when I speak about how I play.

Just hope you can figure it out. How did you find it in last years game specifically?...I know you said you had previous issues, but how about last year?

I've had these issues for at least 3 years. I only play franchise and I'm using Bacon's fictional roster this year.

I'm not looking for advice, more just providing additional evidence that there's something going on with stealing for me too.

The guys I'm stealing with all have above 75 speed and steal ratings between 55 and 68 (the highest on my team). And I have the steal ability slider at 10. The CPU hasn't had any issues in their attempts.

If a pitcher has a really slow motion out of the stretch (or just doesn't pitch that way) you can swipe second with mediocre runners.

I've only done diamond dynasty against the CPU so far, so I don't know what extra levers are being pulled, but even on all star I can get good success with 67/55 Curtis Granderson with no lead or timing. I just judge the pitcher's motion, check the catcher's arm, and queue it up. It worked for me as the Tigers in franchise with the default sliders last year too, it's all about what the pitcher does.

Bunting, no clue. I don't try it a lot but I'm probably trending below 50% in success rate so I can't say it's bad one way or the other. Taking the first pitch usually helps for me.

I had the same issue until I read someone saying that (after pressing L2) you should quickly tap R1 when the pitcher starts his motion for better results. This actually worked for me.

R1 or L1? R1 reduces the lead so that seems counterintuitive
