Re: Stealing and Bunts
Well I got my first successful stolen base. Ran on a 1-2 count expecting breaking ball. The pitcher actually used a slide step but I was still safe.
The runner had 56 speed but 75 steal ability. I think that's the key for me. I can only use guys that have 70+ steal ratings.

If you do auto baserunning, does it steal as well?

Re: Stealing and Bunts
Been tapping the L2 and holding the L1 button. I only attempt to steal after the count is 2-0, 1-1, or 2-1 and after watching how much the pitcher is paying attention to the runner on first. If I see slide steps or a quicker motion, I usually hold off. Most of the time they get good jumps. If they don't I try to foul the pitch. Stolen base percentage as a team is above 75%.
Of course it helps that the Padres have some pretty good speed. Tatis is perfect in seven attempts. Pham is perfect in three attempts, Myers is 7 for 9, Profar is 0 for 1, Cordero perfect in three attempts, Gettys has one stolen base, and Grisham has been caught stealing all three times.
Bunting, I've been moving the right analog stick down prior to bunting to influence the bunt down more and it's helped a little bit, but now instead of bunting into double plays I now bunt into a fielder's choice because the fielders are still too aggressive instead of taking the sure out.Comment

Re: Stealing and Bunts
I press L2 prior to the pitcher coming set to que up the steal. When I think he's about to go home, I'll press L1 to get another step lead.
I'm currently 3rd in the majors with .857 stolen base percentage.
Been using this tactic since '16 and its worked.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: Stealing and Bunts
No problem, hope it helps.
It's by no means fool proof, but its the best "strategy" that I have found.
It also brings back some of the cat and mouse with the pitcher, as I'll wait until he's looked over and when I think he's going home I'll take that step. Sometimes I'll take an extra step and then press R1 to step back and then L1 to step again, just to see if I can't disrupt his rhythm to the plate.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Re: Stealing and Bunts
I'll also back-pick from the catcher sometimes if I notice they took a bigger lead but didn't steal. Just throw to 1st after the pitch has been delivered. I don't know how much of this has an effect on the runner, but my catchers pretty consistently throw out 25-40% of runners year to year, which is above average to great.
It also helps to have a catcher with good throw accuracy. I find that more important than pure arm strength.Comment
