Franchise Progression - Before I Start

I'm interested in starting a franchise with the White Sox. However, I'm interested in simming through 2020, to let some of young starters (Robert, Kopech, Cease) develop, and some of the high prospects (Madrigal, Vaughan) at/close to MLB promotion.

Two things are keeping me from starting this right now:
    * Does the community think further patches are coming/required to make a Franchise worth committing to right now?

    * Has anyone had experience with how realistic the sim engine is? I'd maintain control over the roster during the sim, and maybe make some trades during that first season. I'm just curious if anyone has had experience with how players develop during sims.

    Any insight would be appreciated!

I did this exact thing. Simmed year 1 and am playing year 2. Everyone developed at a nice pace but not to a degree where they are going to be immediate stars in year 2.

My original plan was to bring them all up for year 2 but when Edwin surprisingly didn't retire and Vaughn continued to struggle I sent him back down again.

Either way I am having a blast so far.

Any specific pain points I should be looking out for to be solved before I jump in? I've been playing DD to get my timing down, but know that I don't have it in me to sink the thousands of hours needed to commit to that world.
