    MLB The Show 20: Real Pitch Speeds Vs. The Show on HOF

    Gutfoxx put together a really interesting video earlier this week where he compared real pitch speeds...

    So basically for offline guys that want real life speeds, juts bump up pitch speed sliders a click or two.

      I play on Veteran with pitch speed sliders at 100%. Once you go 100% - every Show video you watch with normal pitching speed will seem like the ball is floating.

        Legend difficulty with max speeds is still slower than real life.

            Do we know by how mitch exactly? I wonder if doing math based on time and distance would be a better method than counting frames? Also, I practiced on offline Legend with max pitch speeds before going online the other night. All I know is that once I got to the point where I was able to turn on those fastballs and still sit and hit the offspeed at times, it just resulted in me needing like 3 innings to get the timing down for p line AS lol. Now that I'm up in the 700s in DD maybe hitting on HOF online would be quick enough that the legend practice would be worth it.

              Not by much. All I know is that from the mound to home plate is 60 feet 6 inches. With the guys arm length and stride the distance the ball travels to the catchers glove would have to be even a shorter distance. 100mph is 146.67 feet per second.

                Re: MLB The Show 20: Real Pitch Speeds Vs. The Show on HOF

                I think using online to test it is flawed.

                People think pitch speeds are faster in online, only because the game plays so laggy online. If you play on legend mode on a PS4 pro on faster (60FPS mode ) at a good ball park without frame drops ( thankfully they fixed that this year so most ball parks at day time are good ) the ball comes in fast and smooth and your batter swings pretty much instantly when you swing the analog stick or press the button to swing.

                Because of this playing offline I can turn on a 101 mph fastball on the inside part of the plate and pull it, where as online a Roy Oswalt 94mph sinker inside is almost unhittable unless you sit on it.

                I feel like SDS is aware of this, so they slowed down the pitch speeds online but even then the game plays so laggy that it's very hard to hit online.

                I think they should do a test on legend mode, faster graphics setting offline at default sliders and then max out the pitch speed slider and test it out.

                  Ok did some math. The mound rubber to home plate is 60 feet 6 inches. I just measured my stride. The position the ball leaves my hand is about 6 feet closer but we'll say it's 5 feet closer to keep the math simple. I can only assume the same thing for a real pitcher, actually it's probably closer because I'm only 5"11 and they are usually taller. That means the ball would travel roughly 55 feet from my hand to home plate.

                  100mph = 146.67 ft/s
                  75mph = 110 ft/s

                  100mph to home plate at a distance of 55 ft = .37 of a second
                  75mph to home plate at a distance of 55 ft = .5 of a second

                  So the real guys have like 4 tenths of a second to recognize the pitch type, follow it with their eyes, decide if they want to swing or not and swing the bat. That's nuts!

                    Related to what you guess are talking about. It’s insane how little time they have to react. Heres a little breakdown I’ve always found interesting.

                      Re: MLB The Show 20: Real Pitch Speeds Vs. The Show on HOF

                      Ok so I was playing around offline, first time messing with the sliders for this year.

                      I normally play legend on default sliders, this time I decided to play a game cranking out the sliders to maxed out pitch speeds.

                      The pitches come in a lot faster obviously, but I noticed I was still able to play and it wasn't much more difficult. What I noticed and think is going on is that your batters swing speed is tied to whatever difficulty setting and sliders you have the pitch speed on.

                      What I mean by this, is playing with legend and max pitch speed, means that the swings that you and your opponent take are faster as well to compensate. This was why it seems like the swings at the plate where the ball makes contact with the bat was a lot faster.

                      This is also why in online play people say the pitch speeds are too fast, even though they look slow in reality, but why they still get gassed by 94 mph fastballs up and in. Because with how laggy and slow online plays, when you go to swing online the swing speeds are slow as well. This is actually something the developers I figure had to put into the game, because obviously online has lag issues and will not play as smooth as offline, so to keep the timing windows around the same, they slow the swing speed down to the pitch speed to compensate.

                      What this means however for this thread, is using online diamond dynasty pitch speeds on hall of fame does not even come close to comparing to legend offline default speeds and not legend maxed out sliders pitch speeds offline, but at the same time playing offline is also much more responsive and less laggy and the batters swing faster so the pitch speeds online needed to be slowed down anyway to keep the game competitive for those who have slower internet connections and TV's as well.
