Re: Anyone else taking a LOT more walks vs the CPU?
I wanted to update this to say that I'm nearing mid season in my franchise, playing every pitch of every game, and I actually have a guy (Kris Bryant) leading the league in walks! I also have two others in the top 20. This is the biggest change possible from previous editions of The Show, when my team leaders might have a few dozen walks at the end of the year. With some players, I'm tripling that right now. Bryant has a walk rate at about 16%.
But yes, I have noticed that the walks are much more prevalent this year. I think I have like 15-20 more walks than Ks with Rizzo, not sure of the rest of them, except Schwarber, cant hit worth crap with him this yearNFL- Green Bay Packers
MLB- Chicago Cubs
NBA- Milwaukee Bucks
NCAA- Wisconsin Badgers

Man, I am leading the NL in both walks and strikeouts with Schwarbs. I just made it to the series against the Dbacks, so between 30-35 games in. I am raking with the top 4 of my lineup-KB, Rizzo, Baez and Contreras. After that, most guys are in the low .200s for average, some even in the .100s.

Anyone else taking a LOT more walks vs the CPU?
I felt I was getting “a lot” of walks for the first 40 or 50 hours with the game. In the last 50 or 100 hours or whatever I’m at, however, my walk numbers have very much stabilized. Looking at my universal profile numbers I’m at 1.8 BB per game, which is absolutely terrible.
I had the same experience with HR. Yeah it “felt” like I was getting a ton of HR but sure enough I check my universal profile and I’m hitting like 1.3 per game over ~120 games. Not remarkable at all.Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.Comment

Sliders my man, i have pitching control down but their contact and timing is down too. If i am on from the beginning of a game i can get around a K an inning which seems accurate, however with like Marco G i get only 3/4 a game as he just mainly gets ground balls which is fine for me. They still get the barrel on the ball enough trust me.Follow my MLB The Show 20 Tampa Bay Rays Franchise here:

Re: Anyone else taking a LOT more walks vs the CPU?
Like some others here, it seemed like if I even drew one walk a game, it was a miracle. Every franchise every year I was always last in the league in walks. Granted, part of it is after all these years I'll still swing at eye level heat or breaking balls in the dirt. However, this year it almost feels like two free passes a game are normal. I'm on All-Star with relevant sliders at default. I may not be drawing them at what should be a big league level, but I'm no longer dead last in the majors anymore! When the Giants come to town, it's Bye Bye Baby...Comment

Tips on drawing walks? I really struggle with not swinging at just about everything.Milwaukee Brewers | Green Bay Packers | North Carolina Tar Heels | Wisconsin BadgersComment

Re: Anyone else taking a LOT more walks vs the CPU?
I play on Veteran+, because I'll just never be good enough to succeed on anything higher, and that's ok with me. And I play with old school settings when batting, with zone and buttons, no right stick. I also guess high fastball on every single pitch when possible.
For the past ten years or so, I've practiced a system where if the first pitch is not a high fastball, I simply do not swing. The only exception to this is when I have men in scoring position and the pitcher just throws up a meatball slow curveball high in the zone.
If I get ahead in the count, without men in scoring position, I just keep taking pitches until the CPU throws me a strike. Let them throw as many balls as possible, both in an attempt to take a walk, and to drive up the pitch count.
I've become good at not swinging at very high fastballs, and on pitches low and outside. I have a ton of trouble telling whether a fast pitch thats low and anything other than very outside is a strike and a ball, so I just don't swing at those unless I have two strikes on me already. If the pitcher throws a sinker and doesn't have a fastball, then I'm basically helpless and just have to wait for him to leave the game.
Basically, my entire gameplan, 90% of the at bats every game is the same. Which is to eventually find a pitch waist high or above, in the zone, that I can make solid contact on. Anything else isn't going to work out, so I let it go until I'm forced to swing. In every version of The Show previous to this one, this lead to me driving the pitch count up, but it did NOT lead to me taking a lot of walks. However, this year, things have changed a lot. It seems like the CPU pitchers are throwing a LOT more easy takes low and outside with three balls than they ever were before, if you're patient enough to wait for them. And it also seems like the umps are a lot less likely to call a check swing a strike than they ever before.Last edited by Unlucky 13; 05-13-2020, 05:24 PM.Anyone who claims to be a fan of two teams in the same pro sport is actually a fan of none.Comment
