Franchise Mode Scouting: "Scouted" vs. "All"

When scouting in Franchise Mode, what is the difference between the list of Scouted Prospects and the list of All Prospects? Is the Scouted List the list of players that your scouts discovered? Is there an advantage to using one over the other?

I think it is the list your scouts spend time observing. So the more time on a player the more accurate your report will be. The 'all' I think are all the players available at that position and region for that class.

All prospects = everyone DISCOVERED. Scouted = prospects that you or the cpu had time to scout (bar is some shade of yellow/green)

So players might get scouted for me, even if I don’t assign a scout to him?

Blue chippers, a random, low number of prospects, will be fully scouted at the beginning of the season. Unless you set scouting to auto, which I recommend, those will be the only players scouted. I find manual scouting too tedious. You'll scout less prospects in the same time, than if you set scouting to auto.

You won’t scout less prospects if you pay attention to when a scout has finished his scouting Trip. You get messages when that happens.

Then you send him on another scouting trip.

Tedious for some, joy of being a GM for others.

I do all my own discovery and scouting. For me it is a big part of my team building experience and now 4 years into my main Yankees franchise I have three of my 2017 June draft kids up in the Show.

            Highly rewarding.

Yup, it's one of the only real day to day operations to be done in franchise and I miss it once the draft has gone. Not entirely sure why all our scouts go on holiday after the draft until the new season starts, apparently it's only a 2 month of the year job?

                Yep

My carrover from 2016....Catcher Devon Snow was my first pick in the 2019 draft. Now in 2025 he is our starting catcher (first full year) and is second in the NL All Star voting for catchers.

Nothing more rewarding than seeing guys you draft make it to the big leagues and have success at that level.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

We all hope when we move to the PS5 we can get a more robust...year round scouting feature. And that can only happen if they expand the rosters to include full A ball, International free agents, etc.

I really want expanded rosters and all the year round player development/scouting that would come with it. That to me would be the biggest add in addition to a completely revamped broadcast booth.

Those are the 2 things I would want the most.

My experience is that I get fewer fully-scouted prospects if I set it to Auto.

I used to do manual scouting, and it seemed like I always got fewer prospects scouted. The prospects i did scout all got picked by end of the 2nd round. Using auto scouting i see scouted players into the 4th round at least. I'm never super worried about seeing fully scouted players. Even with partially scouted, it's pretty easy to guesstimate who will pan out and who to steer clear of.

As a team builder/purely Sim player, manual scouting just got too tedious. Simming 3 games, praying you chose the right players to scout, rinse and repeat. It was only last year that I embraced auto scouting, but I don't foresee going back to manual unless a major overhaul is done. Even then, who knows.

I tried manually scouting, but had to go back to auto because for me scouting seems "broken". I would scout the majority of the prospects, but when the draft comes, there are tons of 80 potential guys that I wasn't able to scout during the scouting period. They seem to appear out of nowhere, but this is not a problem with auto scouting.

Interesting. Unless I’m misunderstanding, it sounds like you’re saying that you sim most of your games, focusing more on building the team. It seems like manual scouting would be a big part of that. What do you focus on if you’re not scouting?

I focus a lot on placement, both on the field and which tier a player should be. Many say the progression system is broken, but if you have the right coaches and play players in the right league, even C and D potential can improve. And yes, manual scouting was a big part for me for years. I just got tired of drafting mostly blind. I've also changed the way I look at drafting over the last year. Used to take BPA (alot of pitchers fall in this category). Now unless there's clearly a stud pitcher, I look to draft fielders through the 4th round. It's easier to pick a good unscouted pitcher than a good unscouted fielder.

Unless all of your scouts have 100 Discovery, there will always be players you don't see til draft day.
