The batting slump support group thread

I just wanted to have a place where those who are currently in a slump can share their stories and support others in the same predicament with words of encouragement and affirmation.

I'm currently halfway through year 2 of my RTTS. I have a power hitting, speed demon short stop who got called to the majors in year 2 and immediately took the league by storm garnering Rookie of the Month honors in his first month. Since then it's like I've fallen off of a cliff especially in power production even though my power ratings are both in the low 90s.

My batting average is currently several points under .300 which is my personal Mendoza line. Anything less is unacceptable. If it weren't for my speed and legging out infield singles, my average would be near the ACTUAL Mendoza line. In my frustration I'm swinging at pitches I would've never dreamt of before, so much so that my manager has called me to warn me about it. My first instinct was to mouth off to him but the last time I did that I got benched for the rest of the season in AA. So I just swallowed my pride and "yes, sir"red.

For those also in this deep chasm of suck, just know that there is a light at the end of that proverbial tunnel. You will hit those solo shots, those clutch RBIs, celebrations at home plate and player-of-the-game awards and the adulation of the home crowd. Those days WILL come back, right? I mean they HAVE to. Otherwise, what's the meaning of it all? I mean why else are we hurtling through time and space on this baseball-shaped rock we call home?

Just remember and keep saying to yourself: "I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, DON'T SWING AT THAT."

Struggling majorly with this right now!! Started a RTTS and was absolutely raking in AA and got called up to the majors wayyyyy too early. My guy was rated maybe a 63 and 19 years old.. struggled early on and was hitting 200 after a month but then I buckled down, had a major power surge and ended the year hitting .249 with 20 home runs. Going into year 2 rated a 75 and thinking I'm about to take the league by storm and now my hitting has totally fallen apart. 50 games in and floating around .200 with 3 home runs barely any walks and no idea how to get back on track. Ive been early on every swing I take. Then I'll tell myself to calm down and be patient and all of a sudden I'm starting my swing when the ball is in the catchers glove.

Now I'm just in a total free fall, can't distinguish balls and strikes to save my life, can't decide on a camera angle.... so frustrated!

I hear ya. It's a self-perpetuating spiral that keeps me monitoring the Adjusted Overall of the shortstop under me on the dept chart and waiting for that dreaded cut scene of being called in the skipper's office.

I'm thinking this kid could give us some pointers:

I think I may be out of my slump now and turning guess pitches off seems to have done it for me. It went from being a useful tool at times to becoming a crutch I became dependent on. With it off, I'm seeing pitches better and making better decisions. Back to hitting multiple HR games and won Rookie of the Month for the second time this season.

            I'm back, baby.

This is my story lol. I used to play with guess pitch during the PS2 and PS3 days, and even up until I think 19 on PS4. After I turned it off I became a new man. There's no way I could play with it now, no way in hell. If it wasn't a fastball down the middle/up/down in the zone I would struggle, it was to the point where I couldn't read a pitch if my life depended on it. It is just that, it is a crutch, because you become dependent on an exact location and pitch. Glad you broke out of it.

And if anybody reads this that uses guess pitches, even if you feel like it works for you, trust me, turn it off, you'll ease back into being a hitting machine in no time. As a matter of fact, I guarantee you'll just become better at hitting.

I'm slumping hard. Late on everything, can't recognize pitches until it's too late. PCI placement is off. Every time. Maybe I need to take a break.

I tried switching to directional hitting and every time I'd strike out swinging I'd think "I would've hit that with PCI." Maybe not, but I don't like giving up that control.

Still sticking with zone hitting with guess pitches off. I feel naked and afraid out there lol and have had some gawd-awful plate appearances but overall I'm hitting much better and putting up power numbers befitting my ratings. First week of the season and I'm leading all shortstops in the AL in all star votes. I'm doing something right.

I've seen people online they seem to know every time where the pitch is going. Low curve or change up, forget about it. If its not a fastball right over the plate or I get hit with a pitch I struggle big time getting on base for long stretches.

If I foul tip an 0-2 pitch I feel like I just won the game.

I turned guess pitches back on, not because I'm struggling but I like that extra bit of strategy at the plate and guessing pitches is part of the game. This time, however, I set it to no feedback so I get the biggest bonus and the least penalty and not having the distraction of the various feedbacks which is what did me in before. If it's a 3-0 count I want to guess fast ball and get a bonus for it. So far so good.

My 2nd baseman raked in AA got called straight to the majors and in 48games batting .347 with 10HRs on legend + dynamic difficulty, I was able to win Rookie of the Year, We went to the playoffs and i completely fell off a cliff like a headfirst nose dive after raking for 2 months my Cubs went all the way to the World Series and won in 6 games against the Yankees and all i contributed the whole playoffs was like a .109 batting average and 3 Hrs lmao... So now its Spring Training and the slump has still continued im currently at a .181 batting average with just 12 games left in spring training.. Luckily through out this slump my ops remains high because i been having to be patient and take my walks and since i used the anomaly build and with my equipment both my power is in the high 80s i get walked alot or this would be really bad.
