Underrated/Surprising Players Thread
Unsure if this thread is out there, I looked and saw nothing.

If we are talking franchise then Ryan O'Hearn is always good for me. His contact is pretty trash especially against LHP but it just doesn't seem to matter.

Re: Underrated/Surprising Players Thread
Jays franchise, Teoscar Hernandez is killing it for me. I don’t have the PS4 handy at the moment but I’m pretty sure I’m hitting about .325 12 HRs and 23 or so RBI through the end of April with him.
Also Trent Thorton, same franchise SP I believe he is 4-1 with a sub 2.00 ERA .
I’m playing every game every pitch, so no sim involved.

Johnny Utah is the best lefty specialist in the game.... or was this strictly about real players? LolComment

Luplow has been great vs lefties for me. Good contact. Around 80 power.

This year its Lucroy, ryan weber (SP) and Marcus Walden (SP) for me... and if you want to throw a bench guy, cesar puello has always come through when I insert him in the lineup.Comment

I’m still playing spring training in my Jays franchise but Hernandez is raking for me too, batting .330 ish. Thorton had a 0.83 ERA through 15-20 innings so far coming out of the pen.

Re: Underrated/Surprising Players Thread
For me it's 21 year old rookie Joel Julio. It's not his offence that is surprising. His offensive attributes are near superstar levels and rising, and he is meeting those expectations with the bat.
I called him up for his bat when Jarome Mauzoul went down with a broken hand. The idea was that he would mostly occupy the DH position. I played him a few times in his natural position (LF) and the results were as expected, which is to say he was a horrible liability in left and I broke into a nervous sweat whenever he had to run for a ball.
But one of his listed secondary positions is 3B. At first I thought "there is no way I'm letting him play third". I have a thing about 3B. I feel that having great defense at third is essential, so you can imagine my resistance to trying Julio at 3rd. But the situation arose where a bunch of my infielders needed a rest, and I was facing a relatively easy team, so I decided to try it. He was... suprisingly competent, which is high praise from me. So I decided to give him a few more games at third. The trend held. Don't get me wrong he's no gold glove player, but he looks way more comfortable there then in left.
I'm thinking a move the the infield is in his near future. He's certainly tall enough to play 1rst, so a 1rst/3rd baseman he may soon be.

Trent Thorton on the other hand did not make the cut out of spring.Comment

Re: Underrated/Surprising Players Thread
For me it has been Jackie Bradley Jr. who is 75 overall in this year's game. He rakes, hits over .300 and hits 30 HRs; this has been since MLB 2018. Of course his defense is stellar too but that's to be expected.Comment

Funny in my control franchise using modern rosters, I'm also over-performing with Teoscar Hernandez. He's currently batting leadoff while leading my Jays in every offencive catagory, and is rock solid in the field as well.

Thankfully Hernandez is still leading my team in strikeouts so it still feels pretty realistic lol

Teoscar is killing it for me too. But defensively....yikes. And he also leads my team with strikeouts.
My biggest surprise is Josh Naylor. I like fill the Jays with as many Canadians as possible. Tyler O’Neill hasn’t been working out but Naylor is leading the league in Homeruns, RBIs and batting average.
Full disclosure it’s mostly because the AI won’t adapt hot and cold zones and he gets an insane amount of high heat pitches that I like.2016 NLL Champion Saskatchewan Rush

Re: Underrated/Surprising Players Thread
You know, that’s the whole thing about this game, isn’t it? You can hit .223 with Miggy in his prime and you can win ROY with a .323/26/108 line with some nobody with 47 contact and 56 power. It’s absolutely beautiful.
The best arm out of my pen right now is Jose Cisnero, an aging, D-potential 63 OVR nobody with nothing special about him to speak of. Throws like 93 tops, average movement at best, but gosh darn it through 30.1 IP his WHIP is sub-1, he’s got 8 saves in 9 ops, and he’s got the SU role on lockdown.Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.Comment

Re: Underrated/Surprising Players Thread
he's no scrub, but my single favorite pitcher to pitch with is Orel Hershiser (I believe my card is an 84 overall 'Rookie' version)
I love his arsenal so much.
But take this with a grain of salt -- my all-time favorite Diamond Dynasty pitcher is Jaime GarciaComment
