Is there a way to switch control from a batter to baserunner midgame? If there isn't, that would be an interesting way to "fix" stealing bases. Going into player-lock mode as the runner and focusing on just stealing would go a long way. Wouldn't need to do as much, if any, slider alchemy then.

Re: Stolen Bases
I've had pretty good success in MTO (so default sliders) by picking my spots. I don't run a lot or as soon as I get the chance. If a guy has a slow delivery or offspeed stuff he's throwing a lot, then I'll give it a shot. As for technique, I usually pre-load the steal then try to sneak an extra step in when I think the pitcher is coming home by mashing L1. Not sure if it really helps with the jump, but I do OK. Sometimes I'll try to time it with hold/release L2 but not often.
I had a big steal with Greg Allen of Cleveland (78/50 maybe) pinch-running for Roberto Perez in one of those late-inning MTO situations trying to break a cold streak that was dragging me down in the standings. Tie game late, Perez singles, Allen in to run. CPU Holland throws over, I don't think I even took a lead. He's fairly slow to the plate, but throws some heat and Perez is no slouch. Waited a few pitches until I thought a breaking ball was coming, sure enough, swiped a bag. Next batter singled him home and held on for the win.Comment

Re: Stolen Bases
You have to pick your spots. I lead the league with steals but stealing while bunting shouldn't be stealing??? Franmil Reyes has seven steals in early May. I'm assuming stats affect contracts, so I don't want cheat steals. Maybe I'm missing something. A runner advancing on a bunt isn't a steal? Jeff Mcneil could break Ricky Henderson's single-season stolen base record if I implemented the bunt steal every time. If you don't hit-and-run on a bunt it's a double play, so it's sort of a "whatever stat" for me.Comment

Re: Stolen Bases
Stole another big one with Greg Allen late in an MTO game. Dropped into a 1-1 game in the 8th with Giolito throwing a one-hitter. Allen reaches on an E4, steals second on a 2-1 low fastball (Grandal 61 arm). Leon advances the runner, Hernandez sac fly, I take lead without getting a hit.Comment

Re: Stolen Bases
Exactly. Those numbers are exactly why I decided to post this thread in the first place. Merrifield and Mondesi are so fast, and rated so high that it is inexcusable for them to have basically a 50% caught stealing rate in my Royals franchise. And I’ve been playing The Show for over a decade. It’s not like we’re all new to this game and haven’t mastered the art of the stolen base. That’s why there’s so much frustration with the baserunning. It’s broken.Toronto Maple Leafs

Re: Stolen Bases
Seriously! It’s crazy. So far in my franchise (through May 4), there are NINE catchers with 6+ stolen base attempts. Jorge Alfaro from Miami is among the NL leaders with 7 stolen bases. It’s just ridiculous.MLB The Show '20 ROYALS Franchise: 27-23

Re: Stolen Bases
Can anyone tell me how to queue up a steal for the guy on 1st when you have runners at the corners? It says push the left analog stick towards first + L2, so I do that and let go to queue it up but BOTH runners steal every time. So my guy on 3rd tries to steal home.
I'm sure I'm doing it wrong but I can't find directions in game on how to do it. Any help or suggestions would be great."Baseball is the coolest sport because, at any moment, the catcher can stop the game and go tell the pitcher a secret" - Rob FeeComment

Re: Stolen Bases
My take on it, would be failed hit and runs, cause if the batter swing and misses run runner is now stealing base...so it could be that...It's all about the man Hammer'n Hank...Comment

Re: Stolen Bases
Don't know if this is a placebo effect type thing on helping not get picked off when you have a steal qued up. Or if it actually works. But it seems to help.
I do the Tap L2 to que up the steal then hold L1 and finally release it when I want the "break" to happen thing. Obviously when they try to pick you off you get picked off 98% of the time.
So what I do is as soon I see the camera switch to the pick off cam(when on 1st) or see the infielders behind the runner on 2nd move hard to the bag I let go of L1 and immediately press R1. Even with taking an extra lead (1 step) from the default lead it gives you on 2nd i can get back most of the time. I've stop taken extra leads on 1st due to increases the chances of throw overs/pitch outs. But I've had success getting back when i'm going on a pitch and they throw over.
Seems this get back reaction is tied to players steal rating cause i have more success getting back with higher "steal" rated players. Which makes sense.
Like i said maybe it's all of a placebo type thing and don't see it mentioned anywhere in the controls but just throwing it out there.Comment

Re: Stolen Bases
The roster I use Jorge Alfaro of the Marlins has a speed rating of 75, so that is possible."They're no such thing as stupid questions, they're are just stupid people that ask questions"

Re: Stolen Bases
Ok, maybe Alfaro could be an exception, but there shouldn’t be that many catchers among SB league leaders. Nelson Cruz has 5 (through May 12) and his steal & baserunning aggresivenss are both at 0.MLB The Show '20 ROYALS Franchise: 27-23
