Plain filthy SP suggested pitch types

I started a plain filthy SP and currently am using 4 seam, sweep curve, slider, splitter and screwball. Im thinking about dropping the slider for one of the knuckleball pitches, and possibly dropping the 4 seam for a cutter. ive heard that not having a 4/2 seam fb can be really hard. Would the cutter have enough speed to make up for not having a plain fastball?

You can get by with just a Cutter if it's your best pitch, but it can be tricky. Cutter and 2 seamer is a nice combo, imo, since it gives you movement to both sides of the plate and gives you more tools vs both righties and lefties.

My personal favorite setup is Cutter, Changeup, Slider, and 2SFB.

Sinker or Running fb would be a nice compliment to replace the 4 seamer. 2 pitches breaking glove side, 2 breaking to the throwing hand and the splitter breaking down. Runner would equal or better the velocity of the 4 seamer.

I personally don’t like having a sinker as my only “fastball” type pitch - it’s hard to evaluate a sinker without it being crushed so it’s harder to change the eye level of the batter. Just from my experience anyways

Created a plain filthy SP last year. Sinker, slider, fork. My "tryout" as closer early on freshman year got made permanent the following season. Whether it was the pitch, the archetype, or both, the sinker did its job for me... Maybe too well. Its also why I also suggested the Running FB.

Sinker ball pitchers can definitely work I don’t disagree. I personally just love a hard 4 seam fastball - especially if you have the velocity to get it up to 95-97 mph
