GQ article on The Show: Interesting perspective from a rook

A baseball writer with nothing to do bought a playstation and got the show. Here's a different take on the game...

In the absence of real baseball, Jack Dickey writes, 'MLB: The Show' provides a surprisingly charming alternative.

I did this too! Purchased the game and a PS4 once MLB Ppd. Started a franchise with my Os and I’m playing the minor league schedule as well. Found some realistic sliders from a guy on here and it’s been great!

Actually same here haven't had The Show since 09' and bought a cheapish PS4 off ebay and got to it. Haven't looked back. Its been a great couple of months.

After not posting here since I guess 2014, I found that my signature had an old slider set for FIFA 15... super awkward...

        Interesting read.

Sometimes it’s refreshing to get a brand new perspective on things from someone who has no previous bias in how they present that perspective.

Seems like he has the right attitude.

Honestly, if all you do is harp on this game haven't a clue why you would torture yourself, and how you would get any joy out of playing it. I have a 77 year old buddy who plays MOM exclusively and he and I also chat on the phone about the outcomes in our games. The love of baseball.

This is awesome! I hope to be playing The Show on a PS 10 when I'm that age.
It's on me. I shook his hand too hard. It was a hard ... kind of a slap-shake.

"What? You can't challenge a scoring play?''

You’ll have to play MOM, lol. He used to play college ball with Illinois State. Big baseball fan.

                  Exactly.

Someone who appreciates, and can appreciate, the game for what it offers instead of searching for what it doesn't.

The first thing a lot of fans of the series do when the new game drops is go to see if "thing x" or "feature y" are fixed and based on that answer, our appreciation and to an extent enjoyment of the game are altered. A fan of the series can never play the game again with fresh eyes and as a brand new experience, because whether we want to admit or accept it or not, we are biased to a some extent.

So that is why I said its refreshing to see someone new offer an opinion of the game. I think sometimes those of us who have played the game for several years forget just how good the game is, because we've come to take it for granted.

Not that there is anything wrong with wanting it to be better, because as fans we should expect, and deserve as fans, for the game to get better each year and our issues and the bugs to be corrected.
