Given that Pache is on his rookie contract, can I take him off the 40-man without clearing waivers? I've not currently got the game fired up so I don't recall all of the roster options. I just wanted to check if anybody knew about this. I don't want to press the wrong button and end up sending him to waivers.

Question on rotating 40-man
I'm currently midway through Spring Training with the Braves. I have Christian Pache on my 40-man roster but I'd like to remove him from the 40-man and add Drew Waters so they each get some playing time.

If you want to add Waters, I’d suggest removing a D-potential or low-rated RP as they are much more likely to clear. Pache almost certainly will get claimed (then again with the wonky CPU logic in the show, who knows). Not worth the risk though. -
Re: Question on rotating 40-man
You also don't want to put guys on the 40 man too early in their career (not sure where these two guys are), for when you send them down if they need developing at end of spring training they'll use an option. After three seasons when up at the MLB level and then sent down, using an option year once a year, they'll be out of options. Once out of options when you send them down they'll have to pass through waivers there. I usually don't put a young player on the 40 man unless I thought he'd play in the pros that year or be at the ready if needed, or once they get to the point where they are rule 5 eligible.Comment

Re: Question on rotating 40-man
Thanks for the answers; maybe I can get someone to take Mark Melancon's huge contract off my hands and open up a 40-man spot, lol.Comment
