Re: Will baserunning ever work properly in this game?!
So there must be some sort of bug that lets this happen on rare occasions right? I mean I’ve been playing this game since ‘08 so I know how the baserunning is supposed to work.
I do believe that when this happens it’s mostly during online games. It can’t be the small input lag window online because like I said I immediately released L1 after my runner passed second base. I would think that the half way point is exactly between the bases. So if you let L1 go in the first half it stops at the upcoming base and if you release it after the halfway point (or when you hold it) it runs further.
If someone could elaborate it would be great.
I think that bug I highlighted above hits people a lot more than they realize, and it makes you think the running system is supposed to do something (in this case, run an extra base) when in reality it's not supposed to do that at all.
If you're having trouble getting the timing right, try holding L1 a bit longer than you think you should - and pay attention for the base destination changing from 2nd to 3rd, or 3rd to Home as they round the base - that's the cue for when you can release the button.Last edited by bcruise; 05-22-2020, 05:21 PM.Comment

Re: Will baserunning ever work properly in this game?!
Example 1: runner crosses 1st base and then I release L1 in which the runner should stop at 2nd but runs full speed ahead to 3rd base.
Example 2: runner crosses 2nd base and then I release L1 in which the runner should stop at 3rd but runs full speed ahead to homeplate.
I understand baserunning is a hard thing to control in a videogame considering advancing or holding multiple runners but with just 1 runner there is no excuse for this system not to work like it’s supposed to."When it's all set and done, reality is the best innovation."Comment

Yeah I know that is how it is supposed to work but in my case the player sometimes moves 2 bases further.
Example 1: runner crosses 1st base and then I release L1 in which the runner should stop at 2nd but runs full speed ahead to 3rd base.

I also said there's a way to prevent it if you catch it in time - if the baserunning display looks incorrect you should have a short time to enter one of the individual commands to tell him to stop at the right base.

Re: Will baserunning ever work properly in this game?!
The issue I have is that the runners are sluggish. A lot of times you will take a big turn and then try to return the runner where they should have plenty of time but they'll take two or three extra steps and the CPU will throw behind them. Sometimes the CPU throws back to the base before they even change direction.Comment

It's a lot like when a few years ago they made bunting literally impossible to prevent bunt cheesing that was rampant at the time.(although iirc, they only made it impossible in online games, now they break even offline as well). They did something similar in response to guys getting thrown out at 1st on singles to RF, instead of fixing the cause of why that happening, they just made the 1B not cover the bag in that situation so you couldn't get them out.
SDS's solutions to problems is frequently a bit oddComment

Re: Will baserunning ever work properly in this game?!
There is one issue I've had with the baserunning for several years that hasn't been fixed. If I'm holding the L1 after rounding first and then release it at just the wrong time, the game locks the runner into a "run to 3rd" command when he should be stopping at 2nd.
Here's the thing happening in real time - watch how the baserunning display momentarily flashes "3rd" when I release the advance all button (5th second of the video - interestingly enough that moment is the auto-picked thumbnail for the video):
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/mWCrY0yqO0g" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>
That wasn't me - it only happened because I let off the Advance button and intended to stop at 2nd. This is a case where the full bug didn't trigger - just that visual one on the baserunning display. But when it does happen, that "3rd" will stay on the runner - and he won't stop going until he reaches third, which will usually get you caught in a rundown if you don't notice it.
And yes, I did say "if you don't notice it" because there's a way to keep this from happening every time that "3rd" sticks. I'm used to watching the baserunning display like a hawk now to make sure my runners are doing what they're supposed to, and when I do notice one of these bugs happen I have a short time to correct it myself before the runner reaches base. To make him stop at second I just do the "run to 2nd" command (highlight runner on L-stick, press Triangle) and he will stop there, even if the bug occurred.
I personally haven't had this happen anywhere other than between first and second, but it might be the cause of people running through third without stopping too. It's not an excuse for the bug existing (and since this is legacy it really needs to be fixed), but I know this is the way to beat it.
One more thing - this is a bug that only shows itself because I can show the gameplay live as it happens - the indicator of it doesn't show up on replay. Please use the PS4's passive recording feature to report bugs like this - I promise it will be easier to get your point across to others.
So the “advance all runners” line is coloured orange during the time you are holding L1 correct? You let it go before 2nd base (text turns white) and it’s all good. So I still don’t know why it sometimes happens because I always release way before the upcoming base."When it's all set and done, reality is the best innovation."Comment

Yes, the text turning from orange to white means I released L1 at that moment. But you saw that it flashed "3rd" beneath the runner for a brief moment before "2nd", right? That's not supposed to happen - and sometimes it doesn't reset back to the base that it's supposed to (2nd, in this case). When that doesn't reset, it causes the bug where the runner doesn't stop and just goes to the next base. This time it did reset, and my runner stopped. I don't know what causes it to not reset, if there's an exact timing to releasing it that causes the bug to trigger - I just know that it happens occasionally, it's a bug, and I have to correct it by individually stopping the runner at 2nd.
Oh wow now I see it! It’s beneath the runner, I never saw that. It makes sense now. Do you know if this brief flash moment is always there? And if so is it always at the exact same moment? Come to think of it probably not because like I stated in my first post I immediately released L1 after crossing the base.
Interesting find I must say and there’s probably also a brief moment/flash where “homeplate” appears running between 2nd and 3rd which I unfortunately triggered."When it's all set and done, reality is the best innovation."Comment

Re: Will baserunning ever work properly in this game?!
disclaimer: i love the game. i play it everyday. (all modes except for Diamond Dynasty, Road to September or whatever its called, Moments? or whatever its called, exhibition, online pvp, nor homerun derby) lol coulda just said Franchise & RTTS but i digress.
This is happening every single game now. Ive been tagged out at 2nd because of 2 guys standing on the same base because i refuse to hit the ball in the gap over their heads and stay at 1st because the 2 runners on are only advancing one base. Every game i either give up a run or honestly when i see it happening fast enough i jump into the pause menu, switch team control, and allow my guy to score like he should have.
this is a silly problem. it should not be happening. its the AI, come on now you know whether or not its going to be caught anyway. stop trying to look "realistic" by having guys wait like this. its not realistic anyway. guys dont wait halfway down the line on a ball hit deep anyway, they go 90% of the way cuz they still will have plenty of time to get back if its caught.
but never, never will you a situation where the batter would have a stand-up double, yet the runners on 1st and 2nd only advance 1 base. the worst part about it is they do it on their own, even when not auto-baserunning, and they will ignore and override button presses to do it.
just dawned on me. would it be a problem/issue with the Baserunning Aggressiveness attribute?Comment

It's really hard to be aggressive, that's for sure. The CPU decisions with my awful baserunning ability have turned situations with multiple runners on and base hits to the fence into double plays with no runs scoring on multiple occasions.Comment

Re: Will baserunning ever work properly in this game?!
I use AUTO baserunning. If I don’t I have the “ability” to wind up with four runners on 3rd. That said, i have noticed THIS YEAR, with multiple runners on base there is an occasional logjam. It prevents the trailing runner from scoring. Needs attention.Comment
