I've long had this hypothesis but yesterday really made me believe this.
Game 1- White Sox at Indians
Clevinger is on fire, pitching a shutout-, he gets into the yellow but I push it a little bit. 8th inning. Grounder to third, throw takes 1st baseman off bag. Ok, stuff happens. Then a routine fly ball to right fielder Reyes. Ball hits his glove and he completely drops it. Not the stupid wave attempt, literally drops it.
Game 2- Brewers at D-Backs
I'm winning in a blowout after a couple frustrating losses. I want to get as much out of my starter, Houser as I can. He gets into the yellow in the 7th. Grounder to first, bad hop, off Smoak's chest into RF. Ok. Next batter, fly ball to RF, Garcia drops it exactly the same way Reyes did.
I'm in late June and have played every game with both teams so I know how to play the game pretty well. I really think the pitcher's fatigue affects how your defense performs. And that is kind of dumb.
