    Rule 5 draft issues

I'm confused as it's messing up my roster.

Apparently if you draft players in the rule 5 draft, they are FORCED on your 25 MLB roster.

This off-season I had 3 Rule 5 players, and would have preferred for them to be in the minors.

But instead I was forced to move a SP, and two bench guys off my roster, leaving me with only 2 non pitchers as bench guys.

Is there any way to avoid this? Can I trade rule 5 draft picks? What other options do I have?

No...that is the rules of the Rule 5 draft. If a player is drafted in the Rule 5 draft he must remain on the selecting team's 26 man roster or be returned to his original team.

No you cannot trade Rule 5 draft picks. You can elect to not draft any players though, as you're not forced to make a selection.

      Yup.

And to the OP: there is an in-game guide within franchise mode (I think it is in the transactions menu perhaps - someone near their system can confirm) that goes into a ton of detail about all of the different types of roster states and so on. Definitely helpful if you aren't super intimate with baseball's highly complicated roster rules.

You can trade rule 5 draft picked players to another team but they must remain on their 26 man roster. It is kind of a cheap move as it can weaken another team so it is your call.

And like above definitely check out the transaction handbook. There is a lot of useful information in it as some of the rules of baseball and contracts can be tricky to navigate and plan for in the future if you aren't familiar with them all.

If you want them in the minors and have no qualms with taking advantage of the notoriously broken system, you can release them and they'll be available to sign as minor league FAs 2-3 days later 95% of the time.

I also see no option to return the player to his original team. If I elect to release a rule 5 player, does his OG team then get the top priority to claim him on release waivers?

I think the post above yours answers your question indirectly.

Also to OP the Rule 5 draft was created to stop exactly what you are trying to do with the Rule 5 draftee. Rule 5 draft was created to stop teams from hoarding top prospects simply by offering them higher value contracts.

After not posting here since I guess 2014, I found that my signature had an old slider set for FIFA 15... super awkward...

It's really a shame that you can't add something like "Year drafted/Signed", since the majority of players on a CAP roster like Ridin's are shown to be signed in 2019, meaning that absolutely none of them are rule 5 eligible for a handful of years, and that the vast majority of rule 5 eligible players are just AAAA guys that aren't on the 40, but have service time. I feel like teams rarely, if ever, have taken those guys, since they could have been had via-waivers when they were removed from the 40 by their respective teams.
