Budgets on or off for franchise?
Just curious to see what the most popular choice is for mlb 20. I’ve been going budgets off for 19 because A lot of high rated players were being left in free agency. wondering whether that has been fixed and which was the best way to go?Tags: None -
Re: Budgets on or off for franchise?
I have it on and have since I started my carryover franchise back in '16.
No real problems with it personallyI can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Re: Budgets on or off for franchise?
I test this out RELIGIOUSLY.
There used to be an issue where teams did not have enough money X amount of years in and would have it where top Free agents would not go anywhere because of it and therefore retire the next season.
This SEEMS to have been fixed the last couple versions of the show. I always do a 10 year sim when the game drops just to be safe.Comment

On. I would never consider turning it off for a second, because the GM aspect of the game is the most important reason that I play.Anyone who claims to be a fan of two teams in the same pro sport is actually a fan of none.Comment

Re: Budgets on or off for franchise?
I'm not sure I understand how budget works. I know budget is not taken into account when making trades when it's turned off, but expenses/income are still being calculated every week adjusting the available funds.
So if a team goes into a deficit situation during the season, there is no penalty for it?Comment

Re: Budgets on or off for franchise?
I have mine to on, but give certain teams the sponsorship's so that their budgets will increase overtime.
For example, large market teams like the Dodgers, Yankees, etc. get sponsorship's, mid market teams get 2, and small market teams get 1.
Otherwise, to the best of my knowledge, teams will stay the same or reduce payroll, leaving a lot of those high-end FA's instead of signing them.2025 Expos Expansion:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...gid=1295163793Comment

Re: Budgets on or off for franchise?
Someone asked this in my slider thread the other day. This was my response:
Budgets ON. With them off, trading just doesn't make sense; there's nothing to really hold things together. You can basically spend as much as you want without any repercussions. If you just want to fart around and build a crazy powerhouse, it's fine. But if you want to be really immersed into a franchise, I highly recommend keeping them on.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Re: Budgets on or off for franchise?
I was always an on person until this year. The on prevented trades from happening. Baseball is not like basketball where salaries match and that is what happens with budgets on.
There is a huge deflation of salaries moving forward in year 2. When free agents are signed and players earn less in arbitration than year prior. Budgets need serious work.

Re: Budgets on or off for franchise?
If you're willing to keep tabs on your budget by year and determine a proper amount of growth or reduction for your team (starting a rebuild means reducing budget) as well as keeping the other 29 in check through 30 team control then you can have it off, if you want to build super teams with no limits you can have it off. If you're looking for team management without the extra hassle leave it on
