      Re: Challenges @ 1st Gone?

This year I set the umpire calls to "perfect", figuring that with instant replay in real life, it would be close to that anyway. And I was getting tired of watching the cutscene when I knew darn well whether or not I was going to challenge anyway.
Would the lady who left her nine kids at Wrigley Field please pick them up immediately? They are beating the Cubs 4-0 in the 7th inning!

My friend and I have also turned off the ability to challenge as we thought that it wasn't right that you could "no-doubt" challenge plays at 1B but could not challenge the numerous blown calls anywhere else... We also have put the umpires on "perfect" and have enjoyed that...

I didn't think challenges could be set to off?

It's not expressly stated as that, but the "Umpire Close Plays" option in General>Advanced enables/disables challenges. With it off, all base calls are correct (excluding the occasional animation bug).

I use that option off because it more closely resembles the outcomes in MLB as a whole now - since the aim of replay is to ultimately get every call right. Of course, the fact they still miss calls IRL even WITH replay messes with that philosophy a bit.

You are correct.. you can't turn challenges off. After revisiting my post I can see where people would ask the question... You are effectively turning off the 'challenges' by setting the umpires on 'perfect'...

              I apologize for the confusion...

actually I guess you were right after all. the way bcruise put it makes perfect sense. at one time I think I knew that but it's been awhile since I'd really thought about it.

myself, I've gotten where I like to cycle through each of the 3 options, if for no other reason than it's just one of the several things I've been doing lately to make each game as different as possible.

So holding the button seems to still be working.

Anyway something new happened last night. I was able to get a challenge to pop up in the top of the 8th. Unless somethings changed I thought the rule was no challenges after the 7th. Not complaining because it probably won me the game. Anybody else ever get a challenge after the 7th.
