    Shogo Akiyama

Anyone know anything about this guy?

It seems as if he’s going to play a big role for the Reds so I want to make sure he’s actually on their roster. What would be a reasonable overall rating for him?

I saw someone had him as a 73 OVR but the Reds have given him 21 million a year for 3 years so I guess they hope he’ll be better than that? I have him as a 76 OVR right now.

Creating and editing international signings is always an interesting task. Akiyama, as well as Tsutsogo (Tampa) and the Korean pitcher the Cardinals signed could all theoretically be rated anywhere from 70-80 with potentials in the high B range.

Again, that’s subjective. Last I checked, I have Akiyama at about a 76 with 85 potential.

      Awesome, thanks a lot!

How does potential work with older players? I just put Akiyama’s potential at 76 too since he’s 32 already and figured he would have reached his peak already. Is there a reason to put it higher?

The reason I put it higher is because of the international aspect. Sometimes players come here as older foreign players and they get better in the states. Many times they also fail to reach expectations or regress. I think a C or B potential is fine either way.

Somebody may have —and probably has— a far better take on the potential rating than myself.

Looks like we’re both thinking similarly so I’ll probably just go with 76-80. Give a little scope for improvement but also take age into account.

          Thanks for the help!
