What age does player development stop in franchise?

I'm curious when players' overall ratings and attributes stop going up, and what age they start to decline. Does anybody know how the game calculates this?

It's pretty dynamic and seems to depend a fair bit on the player's potential rating. But I've seen guys as old as 35/36 not crater in-season. Now, low potential guys seem more prone to fizzling out sooner. As for increasing...I've seen A potential guys in their early 30s still going up a bit...but not as fast.

The system is incredibly well-done, especially if you're using a good, balanced roster.
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

There is no easy answer for this. It is a law of averages.

On average player start to show signs of regression around 29-31 and it starts to be more noticeable at 32.

      This is a rough average.

Players tend to consistently grow until around 28 or they reach their potential.

Performance can also have an impact and slow down regression.

My general rule of thumb is that I do not sign anyone to a big multi year contract that will take them past their age 34 year as that is when the regression generally shows the most.

Though I have seen players not regress until around 35 or so if they have solid all around numbers.

Like I said there is a lot of leeway here. As an example in my 30 year sim franchise last night I had a player who turned 28 at years end regress by about 5 overall after having a decent year. I had another player on the same team turn 31 and was second in MVP voting and he grew 1 point in potential and 4 in overall and is now rated 90 without morale changes with an 87 potential.

That is the thing with progression. It is partially based on performance and partially based on age and randomness. Potential has a little involvement in growth but has no impact in regression.

Thanks for all the info. I asked because I've got a 28 year old A potential player who I am doing a player lock challenge with. He's a 62 right now (66 with morale bonuses) and I am trying to get him to a 70 overall. I'm in the first week of August with him so far and he has gone up 3 points overall, he started the season at a 59. I'm trying to get him to a 70 overall, or maybe even 75. I've been RAKING with him this year too, he's hitting over .300 with a slugging percentage over .500. I just wanted to find out if this was even doable or realistic considering the age he's at.
