    IS IT CHEATING?

    Community -

Is it cheating to purchase amounts from the Play Store to add to your bank funds to be used in your franchise? I assume that each franchise remains at the opening standard of $5 and that can be increased through sponsorships.

Also - in regards to sponsorships - is it cheating to purchase sponsorships through Play Store money? The CPU doesn’t have this benefit as I assume their’s are achieved through good performance.

Can someone please clarify this to me. I’m in season 2 of my Yankees franchise & had thought that I may be taking advantage of the league as I have purchased 3 sponsorships (All Diamonds) & have poured money into my bank account.

Thank you to all who reply.

Does it put you at an advantage? Yes, absolutely (though I'd argue that you're playing your role as the Yankees GM quite realistically, lol). But on the list of questionable items, that's far down on my list. I think there are far more "Accepted" practices (e.g. not using GM contracts) that are more questionable than what you're doing.

At the end of the day, we all "bend reality" in some way, shape, or form. If you're still having fun, that's all that matters.
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

Hey Josh - Thanks for the reply - I definitely get your point on the Yankees & the power they have through financial influence - so yes - In a way - it is realistic

What team are you using in your franchise & do you turn on GM contracts?

FYI...I definitely am having fun...The depth the Show provides is unparalleled - & the detail - they even had the time showing of 7:51 on one of the ball parks.

I mean this in the nicest way possible...who cares? haha

You're making choices that effect literally nobody but you. It's your game and you can play it however you want. If it adds fun for you, go nuts with it and enjoy the game.

I'm using the Braves using Bacon's fictional roster (as I said, "bending reality", lol). I'm using GM contracts on, which feels FAR more realistic (and challenging) to me as it puts that real-life pressure on you to meet your owner's goals. If you're a player focused on "your team" kind of franchise player (which I am), I think having the GM contracts on is an invaluable source of immersion/realism. Now, I know some guys prefer shaping their own "baseball universe" and prefer 30 team control, and that's fine if you have the wherewithal to resist 'stacking' your team, but I still think you miss out on the benefits of GM contracts (the fear of losing everything you worked for).

          (different strokes....)

I echo Josh's thoughts here in that the only thing that matters is that you're having fun. If you want to edit all your players to 99 ratings and dominate the majors and that is fun then do it!

We all have our perception of "realism" and balance that with fun as well.

Play your game in the manner that provides you with the most enjoyment.

Thanks guys - I am having fun - just wanted to hear your thoughts on it as though I’m not new to sports games (Madden & 2K) - I am fairly new to The Show.

FYI...I honestly did not expect to receive this amount of feedback so quickly - this thread has far quicker response time than the threads of 2K & Madden.

                Re: IS IT CHEATING?

I've been spending stubs on my franchise budget because I want to have a big off-season to really make a push for the World Series next year.

Just to confirm that I am actually helping myself, perhaps someone can provide me with some clarification - the more money that's in my bank at the end of the season, the bigger my budget is the following season. Is that correct? If so, are there any diminishing returns on that or a limit of some kind? I'm aware of the competitive balance tax limit but will my budget ever be limited? I'm at about $100m in the bank and am wondering if there's a point where I might as well stop using stubs for it.

as this is primarily the way Franchise mode brings in extra revenue, I highly encourage every ‘‘franchise guy’’ to spend a little $ there, whether they need the boost or even wind up not actually using them.

also, we have a saying here in SEC country: ‘‘if you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin'.’’

As a guy who switched teams when he was little to make the CPU make errors and lose, I dont think this is that bad [emoji23][emoji23]

If you’re using 30 team control you can always go and assign sponsorships to the CPU teams for them. I think a good ‘realistic’ system with that is to give the big spending teams like the Yankees and Dodgers All Diamonds. Teams like the Pirates and A’s? Give them Silver’s.

Personally I would probably avoid using stubs to buy bank funds if I were playing with a small market team because I think it would take away from some of the realism and challenge of building them up if you take them and start running them like their the Yankees. Unless you really go crazy with it I don’t think there’s anything wrong with using it when you’re playing with a big market team.

But of course it’s all up to you and you should do what makes it the most fun for you.

Agreed. It’s one of very few ways to use XP rewards in franchise. In fact, it might be the only one.

yeah, it would be nice if in the PS5 Show era if we could spend stubs on stadium upgrades, even if maybe it's stuff we wouldn't necessarily see, like game monitors in the rest rooms or ergonomically designed seats or if the concession stands come standard equipped with hotdogs and soda but you can upgrade to offer stuff like jellied moose nose and yak butter tea, or upgrade our parking lot to wider car spaces. these guys at the Studio gonna have to think outside the batter's box and get creative when the PS5 gets here. and that era is just around the corner. I like to jab a little about the PS4, ‘‘greatness still awaits’’, hopefully it arrives come PS5

All the features people want from franchise can be implemented via the stub system. It’s all right there for them ...

At the end of every season, last week of it, I pour all my stubs into franchise budget and put it in my account. If it's in the game it is not cheating.

Play how you want. That's my take on it.
