Struggling to hit with your teams super stars.

It’s a strange thing that has been happening to me for a long time now. For me I struggle to hit with Bellinger and Turner. But the other guys I can hit pretty well with and get their averages up to the high 200’s. This has been a thing with me for the past 3 years.

    Anyone else experience this?

There are stretches where I struggle with Alonso. I think its just more mental than anything else. I know he should be raking and tearing the cover off the ball, so I tend to swing at pitches that I normally wouldn't with other hittets, just to try and get him his stats.

Yeah it’s a mental thing for sure. I’m playing through a franchise season in 18 and both Bellinger and Turner are hitting about .150 through April.

I too tend to try too hard with highly rated players. hard to hit 5 run homeruns with nobody even on base but yet here I am trying to blast one out when what I really need is patience and get on base by any means necessary. Manny Machado used to be that guy for me, this year I don't really have any superstars but Trey Mancini is the closest I have to one. I moved him from outfield to first base and the ghost of Chris Davis must be haunting him because for some reason he seems allergic to getting on base

Lol. Same exact thing here. Pets is either raking or striking out three times a game. I’m in a funk with him lately and get nervous when he’s up with runners in scoring position and just flail away. But last day in may he’s leading the league in HR with 22 and also leading with 46 rbi.

Now Cano, whole different story with him. Like I said, I’m on last day of may and he’s hitting .189. Finally had to start platooning him.

I struggled with this for years and years with Miggy. Was always a .260ish hitter for me with barely above average power, even back when he was a total beast 99 ovr or whatever. Last two years I busted out of it, he was borderline MVP last year for me and this year his power numbers are trash but he’s hitting .332 deep into August.

The one explanation I can suggest is that it’s entirely about the added pressure you’re putting on yourself during those at bats. You hit better with lesser hitters because you don’t really care about those at bats, so there’s no pressure, whereas you DO care about your superstar at bats, ramping up said pressure.

You really just have to let go and not give a damn what happens, just have a good at-bat and put good wood to the ball. Power & contact ratings WILL take good care of you if you can truly relax, truly be patient, have a good approach, and execute on a hanger or mistake.

And just to anyone reading as a general hitting tip, I can’t stress enough how dramatically my hitting improved when I stopped caring about results per se and just focused on the at bat and the situation.
            Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.

I play with the ChiSox a good deal and when we were finally given the ability to open stances, I stopped struggling with Jose Abreu & he went from Mendoza to beast mode for me

What do you mean by open stances?

I went into the batting stance editor they started putting in 2-3 years ago and tweaked until he faced the pitcher more evenly

I’ve been murdering the ball with Alonso but he’s also a strikeout machine for me. He has way more strikeouts than anyone else on the team
