Yeah, I know what you guys mean and I think I just need to find that connection again with a team that's not so good and build them.

I wish there was more utility with players though in the draft. I know you can edit but I'd like to see more of that.

Don't take it out on me but I admit, I'm an Astros fan. Yes, I hate what they did too. And, it's sort of the reason this year as to why I don't want to play with them. But, I love the park and all.
In the past, I loved playing as the Stros when they were awful because I could build them up. Any ideas on what I should do? Or what are some things you guys do to keep it fun?
I'd just roll with the Astr*s real roster, but to keep things fresh, maybe consider each series against whichever opponent, make changes to how you play. for instance, in Ho*ston's first series against the Angels just play that series every pitch and every at bat. then moving on to the Oakland series, play with quick counts on. the third series you could do something like pitch only. the next series maybe bat only. the next series play only the first 3 innings of each game and sim the other six. next series play only the middle 3 innings and sim the first and last 3 innings. next series sim the first 6 innings and play the last 3. next series maybe play everything like you normally would except try using a different pitching mechanism, like if you're a meter guy try using pulse. I also like to occasionally tinker with my batting lineup. maybe when you're on the road at an NL team bat your pitcher 8th. I also like to rotate through 3 very different slider sets, 1 default, 1 tilted to pitching for both human and CPU and a 3rd tilted to batting for both human and CPU. there is really no limit to the little things you can change up slightly to keep it fresh. for instance I also like to rotate through the 3 ump settings, perfect, average and personalised

Something I like to do is sort of treat Franchise mode like RTTS. I’m the GM and each year I play as my teams newest Rookie or lowest rated starter. Currently playing with the Mets, in my first season I exclusively played as Dom Smith as the everyday LF elevating his rating by almost 10. In my second season, I moved Andres Gimenez to 2B and now controlling him for the season. Big change in player type means newer challenge. Might go with a A potential SP I drafted last season for my player next year. Dom Smith is still my everyday LF after establishing him last year. Kinda gives you some loyalty to the players you played as, as well as move through the season fairly quickly. Probably not a popular way to play but it’s a lot of fun for me. Good luck!
