Outstanding. Scouting is so bare bones and unrealistic. It's needed an overall for years and this would be a great roadmap for that.

I've always really, really wanted a somewhat realistic J2 signing period, or to be able to have my drafted players start in the minors when I sign them, but until we get bigger rosters, it just doesn't work unfortunately.

        Agreed

Scouting needs to essentially be torn down and rebuilt from the ground up.

Great article and great ideas to get this aspect of the game heading in a direction of improvement and immersion instead of "point and click".

I'm a firm believer that some of the improvements that are wanted (and sorely needed) within franchise mode cannot happen to the degree in which they need to happen, until SDS decides to increase roster size beyond 90 players.

And with that then you have to re-work how the financials are handled within the game to accommodate the increased roster size.

Franchise mode is in desperate need of quality of life improvements.

I was coming on to check on any threads with scouting. I'm glad I found this one. Scouting is just boring with no real difference between players at times. I'm a short guy but there shouldn't be a draft class consistently filled with guys 5'7, 5'8 at every position and power in the 70s/80s... especially with the crazy amount of facial hair they give those guys and others.

The amount of right fielders with high speed and base stealing ratings is getting out of hand...LOL

This past draft there were 10 right fielders taken and all but one have a speed rating of 78+. (3 were in the 80's) The one lone below 78 was rated 75. All 10 had a base stealing rating of 75+ with 4 of those being in the 80's.

I know that players drafted don't necessarily stick at their listed position due to their bodies growing and their skillset improving, but come on man....the right field position in the draft is full of 5 tool players!

Expanding the roster size to at least 120 per team and an updated budget system are my two biggest wants for next years game.

I have played every version on PS4 and still could not confidently explain to another person how the current budget system works.

Re: How to Improve Scouting in MLB The Show

This is a great article, perfectly summarizes what is wrong with MLBTS franchise and scouting. I've been wishing for expanded rosters for years so as to accommodate the ability to sign draftees and immediately put them in your AA lineup (another issue, not letting A ball be playable) and I had never even thought of the J2 period. Having that included would be awesome, so many great players come from that signing period, it only makes sense to include it in the only MLB game. Scouting has been so bad for so long, hopefully SDS finally looks at it and gives it a much needed revitalization. I still do my best to try and scout by hand but there's no real reward. I have yet to scout a true blue chip prospect, I've found a couple grade 70 prospects and maybe 1 or 2 grade 75 guys but never a true grade 80 blue chip.
