so they have sliders for contact and power, I'm surprised there isn't a bunting slider by now.

Re: When did rocket bunts start?

The only work around I found is when I am in a bunt situation, I do it via quick manage for that at bat. If you sim the bunt it uses the player attributes for the play only. I like playing every pitch and at bat but for these situations, simming is the best option for success.

The slider set hasn't been touched in like a decade. I think the last thing they did was made separate throwing power sliders for infielders and outfielders.

I'm not saying they haven't changed how they are affected, though. The wind slider's effect changed back in like '15 or something like that.

Well, simming the at bat usually works but since they took away the option to fast play the AB it's really hard to stop the sim before several more at bats have been simmed. To be honest, I stopped trying to bunt long ago.

Interesting that I haven't noticed this as much.
There was a guy a while back who made like a two hour video of him bunting like a thousand times; the AI goes to second like 97% of the time.
              Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.

Maybe I'm thinking of a different year then, like MLB '18 or something. I haven't really played this year's version that much and I didn't do franchise in '19 when I found out I couldn't carry over because I wasn't in the next year yet, so maybe I wasn't really bunting that much then.

Re: When did rocket bunts start?

Yeah, they really need to tune the ball and player physics to reflect reality. Bunting with a decent bunter should work a good deal of the time. If online players wouldn't like that, they should just have an option to disable bunting online.

Come to think of it, I think base stealing has also been nerfed this year (maybe for longer, I'm not sure), probably for similar reasons (too many steal attempts online). However, this can be fixed with sliders while bunting can't.

I did it twice on different skill levels. The problems with bunting (particularly sac bunting, which I'm more interested in, are numerous. Not to mention, now when you successfully pull one off in game, it doesn't get counted in statistics.

The frustrating thing is that the online cheesing is related to drag bunting. It's impossible to cheese while sac bunting because you're giving up an out in the process. But because they altered the physics to address drag bunting, sac bunting got wrecked as well.

Keeping the physics realistic and creating more defensive options to deal with cheesing (shifts, perhaps a "corner charge" button) in drag bunting situations seems a more elegant solution, and one that would more closely mimic what happens in real life.

The bottom line and sad truth is this is not an issue that makes even the first ten pages of their priority list, if it's there at all.

There are 3 things I rarely ever do in this game because of the results..Bunting, stealing base, and advancing bases on a wild pitch..

Re: When did rocket bunts start?

My experience has been that bunting in MLBTS 20 works better than it has since 2016 (rocket started in 2017). As information I play on veteren level.

I will say that the stats are screwed up; whenever I make a sucessful sacrifice it counts as an at bat since the game assumes that I was trying to bunt for a hit.

Also I try to 'ease up' on the triangle button as others have mentioned but to be honest my stick skills aren't the greatest so I'm not sure how much difference it's making, but it seems to work.
