    MLB the show new comer

I'm looking for a good realistic franchise mode to play. How is MLB the show 20 franchise? Does it run well with me having to manage everything around the league like I have to do with Madden or can I focus on just my team?

What are the good and bad you've all experienced with franchise mode?

Thanks for your advice in advance.

You will still have to look past some strange/unrealistic CPU decisions like with Madden if you don’t want to spend any time at all on any teams but your own. Pretty sure you could find flaws in CPU logic in all sports games and there probably always will be things you have to look past at times. Depends on how much you can look past.

On the bright side the Show makes setting up and running a franchise where you control all teams and check up on the rest of the league here and there a lot easier and more user friendly then Madden once you get used to the mode, in my opinion.

Since I'm not a big baseball guy to begin with I probably wont notice a lot of the logic issues. I just want a deep franchise that makes it fun to build a team. Madden is so bare bones on top of the gameplay issues.

it's definitely a worthwhile mode IMO but I'm baseball starved to begin with. I'm probably too close to the forest to see the trees but with only a partial minor league system in place, I don't know that ''deep'' is the adjective I'd use to describe.

what did make it go deep enough is that I started my Braves franchise back with Show 14 and have carried it all the way to 20. I'll probably wind up retiring it after Show 21. what helped me get through 6+ seasons with one team is I only played 1 season with Atlanta on each version because schedules stay the same in multiple seasons on 1 given years version, but you get a new schedule with a new Show if you carry-over. good luck and happy baseball

I just picked up The Show for the first time a couple of months ago because I was also bored with other shallow franchise modes.

As has been said, there will always be some logic problems with any sports game, but teams on The Show generally build well. Trades tend to make sense, and Free Agency tends to play out pretty realistically for the most part. There are likely some things that I'm missing as I don't know a huge amount about baseball, but I know enough now that a glaring issue would be obvious, and I rarely see those.

The Show's franchise mode is deep and entertaining. If you really get invested in your franchise, there are so many things that you can control, all the way down to the sponsors that help to increase your revenue. Just managing a 90 man roster is a task in itself, but you can also hire/fire staff, dictate scouting, and play games as your minor league teams.

The only thing I will say is that baseball is obviously a much simpler game than football or basketball. The Show's gameplay is excellent, but the pace is obviously much soower. The game could get boring if you're used to the chaos and frenzy of Madden or 2k.

I'd definitely recommend buying it though. It took me a good few weeks of solid playing to get the difficulty where I wanted it and explore the different elements of the mode. Now that I have done that, I've settled into a Diamondbacks franchise where I play a game every day or two (I'm finally back at work so can't play as often now) and it's a nice change of pace.

MLB has a few unique tricks up it's sleeve, but the franchise mode hasn't received the attention it deserves for the past 6 years.

It has received some iterative updates though, and it started out as one of the strongest franchise experiences out there. You could only argue recently that some sports games have a stronger franchise, as that's more a subjective matter than an objective one.

A lot of the recent changes have had a lukewarm reception from much of the fanbase (including me), but looking back on the changes, they were things I didn't know I wanted but ended up being great tools that I use all the time (like quick manage for my minors, or the front page to keep me from forgetting anything during a hectic off-season).

The Show's true strength lies on the field though. Maybe it's partly because baseball translates easier into video game format, but the Show feels the most like the sport it is imitating, to the point where it will fool you.

I can talk all about how the NHL series has a better system for player progression/regression, but at the end of the day that games on ice experience can't shake its arcadeyness, and that looms over the rest of the experience.

I would highly recommend you do not start a franchise with the default “full minor leagues” roster. Use one of the rosters in the roster vault. The default roster is so unbalanced the CPU makes dozens of trades the first couple weeks of the season to try and balance it out.

Thanks for all of the comments everyone. I think I'm gonna pick up the show Friday when I get paid and give it shot. Wish me luck.
