    Pitcher confidence

Can someone tell me how the logic works? I play MoM.

In a recent game I was playing against Oakland with Mengden pitching.

His stat line through 3 innings.....3 walks, 8 hits including a grand slam, 6 runs. His confidence level was around 60%.

My pitcher gives up 2 hits and a walk in 3 innings with no runs allowed, his confidence is around 30%.

This is just one example but this sort of thing happens a lot.

I remember another game a while back. I was managing Washington. The opposing pitcher worked 3 innings allowing 10 hits, 7 runs and 2 walks. Confidence level around 60%.

In the meantime, Scherzer allows his 2nd hit in the 4th inning and his confidence drops like a rock to around 30%.

So do those pitchers who got shelled come into the game expecting to get bombed so that's why they remain confident or am I missing something?

I've said many time the confidence thing has been broken and overpowered for years now.

I have not seen this to this extreme. Are you playing with any sliders? What difficulty are you using?

I have seen guys come in with lower confidence (35 to 45%) to start. I assume that is because they had a bad outing or going through a cold streak. I've seen my pitchers start games in the 40's.

Did Mengden start the game with high confidence?

Confidence works off clutch rating I believe. If they have high clutch, the confidence wont drop as fast if they give up something or have a bad inning.
Really wish sports games played to ratings!

Madden get rid of the extras (SS/XF, HFA, media, scenarios, game plan) or turn them down considerably.

I haven't messed with the sliders and difficulty doesn't matter in MoM as far as I know.

I don't know what Mengden's confidence was coming into the game but if it was me on the mound with that stat line I wouldn't be very confident that anything I was doing was working. It all just seems whacked to me.

Seems to me, as you said, that the clutch rating should matter but . Just seems to be no rhyme or reason with confidence.

MoM is defaulted in All Star difficulty if I remember correctly. So I always set my setting to be in All Star.

Well, if his confidence was high coming in and then he had that 3 innings, then that would explain it being at 60%. Ive had games with Clevinger up in the mid 70 -80's and he have a bad outing and never fall below 60. It all depends what he does in between bad hits, walks, etc. If he struck out 6 lets say, that boosts his confidence. If he had a double play or two, that boosts it.

Without seeing the game, I really couldnt say what the factors were. As I said earlier, I have never noticed confidences be that off. I dont watch it that closely inning by inning or havent noticed anything like it from inning to inning. I really kind of look at the start and before they are replaced. My team more then the cpu's

          Two words: Clutch Rating

This also plays a role in how quickly players lose confidence.

Clutch rating should be the factor but it doesn't explain how Scherzer dropped so far down after giving up 2 hits in four innings. One in the 2nd and one in the 4th. So I have to wonder if the clutch rating works correctly since I've seen this type of thing way too often.

Speaking of weird situations involving clutch, I saw a pitcher with a ZERO clutch rating and overall rating in the upper 40's load the bases in 2 consecutive innings with 0 outs in 1 inning and 1 out in the other and never allowed a run. Not bad against a lineup of hitters with high clutch ratings and considering his ERA coming into the game was around 12.00. I wasn't even sure why he was on the MLB roster to begin with. There were much higher rated pitchers in their minors who were available.

Zero clutch doesn’t guarantee that he will give up runs. There are many factors/attributes at play that determine any given at-bat/situation.

I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(
